@ I’ve not been there yet. Swinging by Monday. They’re rebuilding and should be open by March or April. Cheetah (the owner) is busing his butt to get it done.
Hey Shine, It’s Cheetah … I own UJ. Great video and I’m so glad you captured this. It provides a great before and after. I’m short on time so I’m going to paste a post from Big O, another local that took a video on Oct 17 (Helene hit Sep 27). It provides the after. th-cam.com/video/PXILdmSfpIQ/w-d-xo.html Cheetah here … i own Uncle Johnny’s. I’d like to thank you, apologize, and thank you again… and try to keep it short. I’ll also squeeze in a little update and an invite for you and your followers. Not sure if i was the one to reply via text (it’s been chaotic, dynamic, and difficult to keep up with everything, including being polite). I wish I was at UJ when you came by. This is one of the better clips and I greatly appreciate you getting the word and visuals out. Thank you. I’ll point out that is the cleaned up version of UJ and the folks that helped me clean all the debris out, I can never thank enough. So I apologize for not being more polite and engaging when you reached out to see how we were doing. Update: I’ve been raising money every way I can to rebuild UJ. I bought UJ in January 2022 and was working to make it better since. Most of my, Drew’s, Jackie’s, Brandon’s, and many work-for-stays hard work was wiped out when the Chestoa Bridge collapsed and UJ was flooded. Many of your viewers might have noticed Cabins G and H are gone in your video. When I bought UJ, those cabins were uninhabitable, but we spent months renovating them and hundreds of hikers stayed in them over the past two years. They are gone now - we had to tear them down. You also highlighted the foundation of our store and hostel, we started tearing those down yesterday and the job is being completed as I type this on Thanksgiving Day. I know so many neighbors and fellow business owners that also suffered tremendous losses. Despite all that I have much to be thankful for because there is an overwhelming outpouring of support and generosity. We will rebuild and it’s because so many people are helping. Construction on the new UJ starts next week. Thank you to you and everyone out there expressing concern for UJ, the hiking community, the AT, and the town of Erwin. I guess that wasn’t very short and I could go on because so much has happened and is happening. I’d love to do a video with you and get more info out to your subscribers. Happy Thanksgiving! @@cheetahontheat1038 hey Cheetah! Thanks for the kind words! I actually filmed this back in March for my old channel and recently decided to split in to 2 channels (a gear review and this vlog) so I’ve been re-uploading. I’ve always had a soft spot for UJ as y’all have always been so good to us. We moved up here 4 years ago and my mother in law always wanted to stop by (she’s mid 70s and can’t do long hikes). We popped by so she could see the hostel and get a cheap Snickers and everyone treated her like part of the hiker community. It made her day! I saw Unicoi Shuttle post about the demo and construction. I’ll miss what it was but can’t wait to see what it becomes. I’d love to connect and maybe do a tour video once it’s rebuilt. I’ll also push your gofundme on my socials. Can’t wait to see what the future holds!!!
I like the music! Usually I have to turn the volume way down when there's music, but yours made me want to get up and dance.
Awe thank you! You have no idea how much I love hearing that. I spend WAY too much time trying to find good music that won’t kill a video! 😊
@@ShineAndMallows Have you been back to Uncle Johnny's Hostel lately? I'm hiking next year and wonder if they'll have any cabins yet.
