I was born in Ponce 1939. Left when I was 10. What beautiful buildings. Thank you Beth for these videos. Ponce is quite a place. I remember La Atocha La Plaza Delicia. The church in the center. There was a theater there. Puerto Rico is beautiful and has beautiful people.

I just saw this video and it brought back beautiful memories. I remember sharing with my family an Easter Day back in 1972 in the Intercontinental Hotel. We had the brunch and I remember there was a ladies hat and fashion exhibition around the pool. I was 15 years old. It was a beautiful place with a great view. How sad, how time changes things!

The Misla group owners of Century Melia, Solace by the sea and Fox hotel in downtown are cleaning up this property for future improvements and reopening eventually. I heard they planing on opening a new access highway to the hotel on PR#9.

I love Ponce I love the southern side of the Island which is on the Caribbean. The Buildings in Downtown Ponce, I can’t describe the words, but the Architecture is incredible. My question, is the tourism returning, and has the Economy Recovered. I love looking down from the Holiday Inn Casino over the shore line.
As I stated before PR is Paradise and the Southern Side is as beautiful as any Island 🌴 in the Caribbean.

Tourism definitely took a hit after the hurricane especially because most of the hotels were housing government contractors and people who came to help. JetBlue was only flying recovery flights between Ponce and JFK. (We were on their 2nd commercial flight back, which was 2 days before Thanksgiving 2017.) Other than that I see changes in Ponce every visit. There's a surge entrepreneurial spirit, pride & and seemingly a renewed love of history. Ponce will have a Marriott Aloft with a Hardrock Cafe opening soon. The Fox Delicias off the plaza is reopening. The Intercontinental hotel is being worked on to open as a wellness + business hotel. Cruises are trickling in. It's really exciting to watch. Long story short, I've noticed a steady growth in tourism to the South. I've also noticed it's busier now, then it was pre-Maria. And there are other fantastic projects in the works for Ponce, one recently announced is the "Ponce Paradise Project" a 900-acre resort, healthcare village, and marina close to the airport.

Hola Ricardo!

Fui a Solace by the Sea este viaje pasado. El video llegará pronto. Es emocionante ver lo que está pasando. ¡Me encanta!

YES! I'm so excited to see things happening. My heart is exploding! I knew they had the Melia and Solace and the Guayanilla Castle, but didn't realize they are doing everything! Found this on their website:
With this in mind, Misla Hotel Group currently manages: Melia Century Hotel (76 Rooms), Solace by the Sea (101 Rooms), three AIR BNB’s: Chandelier buildings, Gladiolas 1 and Gladiolas 2. In April, the launching of: The Fox Hotel (50 Rooms ), while simultaneously directing the renovation of the Mario Mercado Castle (25 Rooms) in Guayanilla and the redevelopment of the former Ponce Intercontinental Hotel (200 rooms).

That hotel on the 60's,70's was the most exclusive and renowned hotel of Ponce.
In the nights you could see the lights on gleaming of Ponce city just from its swimming pool terrace front area.On Wednesdays was the Daiquiri tragos night. On May 1972 was my Ponce High School graduation dance class in that hotel.
We danced around the swimming pool terrace area
without a ceiling not blocking the starts view and not stopping the freshness breeze of the night..That night might be my last visit to the Intercontinental Hotel cause 2 years later i moved to NYC...Un saludo Ponceño to every body.
