  • Here is a quick review of the Kiesel JB24 Jason Becker. I take some heat about not posting reviews of things I box open. It happens. I've never been fond of guitar reviews because they're so subjective. But, I have a bunch of new guitars I have purchased so here we go!

    The pickups definitely sound scooped. Reminds me a lot of that early 90s metal (Becker, Nuno) sound.

    I got one of these soon after they came out and I love it. It’s a 80’s tone monster and the craftsmanship is top notch. They had two in stock at the time, one was painted and a standard. I got the standard because I was told it was just built to to sell in their showroom and it has some nice upgrades at no cost. The body is a lighter shade of swamp ash with dark brown grain with excellent patterns which is different than most JB #’s models. It also has a lightly figured maple neck with a birds-eye maple fret board.

    i think this is a really good demo, i have been eye balling this model since it came out and within the past year i built a strat, where i didn't realize that the neck and middle pickups i bought were these models. for me, since i primarily play teles, the bridge pickup is the best humbucker i have ever played. A+ review my dude, keep it up.

    After having grown up with Jason Becker, Nuno, EVH, this guitar is the most ideal. Other than this I’d get the N4 to supplement. I just love their attack and skank as you call it! My Numbers is a custom pink reverse headstock, but I’ll probably buy another numbers as they look and sound so good!

    Dude the Bridge pickup sounds awesome...I get what yo are saying though. Its the Jason tone right there. Articulate and spongy, scooped, gain, tremble-y and full of attack. It's makes your alternate picking sound superb, but somehow it's thin. I have a Blue-y Carvin and this one is the next to come....

    • @nicwilson89
      @nicwilson89 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you eventually get the Becker pickup? It's basically magic, it can do just about any genre, sound as fat as you want, but somehow still so articulate, very responsive with the volume knob, cleans up beautifully, especially coil split. Imo one of the best pickups I've ever heard

    I had a swamp ash Washburn N4 that had this same sound with the bill lawrence 500XL and the 59 . None of my other N4s had this twangy sound . I think it’s more the body wood and light finish than the pickups giving it this sound

  • @nicwilson89
    @nicwilson89 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Once you've spent time with this pickup(I bought them to put in guitars), you learn it can do pretty much any genre and sound great, Very responsive to the volume knob, coil splits nicely, will do whatever sound you want. It's everything a Duncan JB should have been and more, still my favourite pickup and I've got a bloody lot of them haha, can't help but swap pickups out that I think don't sound good enough(the Becker replaced a temp Bill Lawrence Bill and Becky model L500XL I had in the bridge because I gave away the EMG80/81 set the guitar came with to a friend, even on 18v they just weren't 'it' for me, and the Becker pickup, with it's much lower output than, y'know, Dime's original pickup before the much worse Dimebucker, just threw out harmonics like it was nothing). I still love my L500XL, it's in another guitar now and I still have the signed photo of Bill with a thank you from Bill and Becky written on the back. Was hand made from the USA so took a while to get to me over in the UK when I ordered it well over a decade...maybe two decades ago. It's still also one of my favourite pickups, along with a bunch of Iron Gear pickups because I now have a lot of them since they're so damn cheap but sound better than most of the 'big brand' pickups. Their take on certain big brand pickups or pickup sets sound better than what they're making a version of but still have the right sound, and are still super affordable (like £30 a pickup ish). Even their super high gain Metal Machine, I think the output is in the 20somethingK range will clean up beautifully, is very rich, and you can hear absolutely every note even in a high gain modern metal style sound if you wanna go for a complex chord suddenly. A set of those went into a PRS and my god is that thing a monster of a guitar when you want it to be now. Not affiliated with Iron Gear, they just make amazing pickups. I put their version of Fenders Texas Specials into a strat and they have the right sound only, better, cheap, very well made and not some made in China stuff you'd expect for the price that sounds like garbage. They called them the Texas Loco set. The only pickups I haven't changed, although I was tempted, was the ones in my Squire Tele Classic Vibe 70s. Their set retains the tele sound but they've got a version that is a tapped single coil, pull out the volume pot and you get double the output...they sound great, their tele set sounds great, but the set made for the Classic Vibe 70s has a certain sound about it that I just can't change...although I did put a Fender American bridge with brass saddles on it. Those are great guitars for the money, sounds like a 70s tele...what more could I want without spending an insane amount on a Fender Tele from the 70s

    The SD Perpetual Burn is supposed to be a take on a JB and the neck pickup is a SD Jazz 59. Should be pretty standard. Maybe it's the guitar it self with no laquer and so on. What do you think.
    Nice vid by the way. Cheers

    • @GearZombie
      @GearZombie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's certainly possible. I think I have a JB in one of my other ibanezes I should take a look and compare. I also have an S series ibanez that just has an oil finish and sounds a bit thin but it's also an S series. Certainly a good theory!

      I had to read this a couple of times to see if you were actually serious. This comment reminds me of this time I was in a guitar center playing a Jem with a terrible setup and the employee told me if I wanted better action I needed to hold the guitar closer to my body. This almost makes that much sense. Perhaps you work at guitar center. You know what you get when you back the volume off of a thin sounding pickup? A thin sounding pickup with less gain....
