I've noticed that the characters glitching out in Future actually has a meaning. It's the fear on entropy, and how thing may become undone, or go drastically different that what you think.
The final new minigames, in Night 4, "Setbacks", are certainly some of the most Interesting. They're all about Stress, Desire, the Past and the Future, and generally how they can make you worry and keep you where you are, instead of letting you move on in life. Dreaming about Stress puts you on a Ladder, as lava climbs up under you, requiring you to jump to and from ladders. Dreaming about Desires puts you in front of an Arcade Grabber, as you time grabs to pick up balls containing things like a House, Money, Food, Keys and other items. Dreaming about The Past puts you in a Photo room, as you hold up a lighter to burn certain photos coming along on the drying rack. Dreaming about The Future puts you on a Space ship, as enemies spawn in and come towards you, requiring you to shoot them at specific times. And the Final song, Setbacks, paints the idea of Setbacks in an interesting way. The song is fairly mellow and relaxed, which portrays these ideas more as Worries that sit in the back of your mind, to pop up every now and then to worry you. Those "What if" moments about making the wrong decision, or getting hurt, or whether you'll get to where you want in life. I can't really make up my mind on which one is my favorite as all of these are pretty good, but I think that Desires is likely my favorite.
i like to think that night 4 is the one that portrays most stories. for example stress, has you jumping from ladder to ladder, resembling running away from your stress, but all your stress keeps on following you (the lava). the desires one is kind of complicated to explain, so lets just get right to it. it shows a claw machine, where you grab the item, you usually do it perfect, but when you drop it into the exit point, you sometimes miss. it kinda shows how you can like be a person willing to (for example) buy the house but you end up not being able to pay for it. the past is simple contrary to desires. burning the pictures resembles burning memories that you dont want to remember about. for future, i saw someone talk about some kind of phobia connected to it due to the aliens glitching so id assume thats what happens in that one, otherwise it would just be a silly alien shooting mini game
If it helps, I interpret desires as this: the claw machine represents your life/future, you have to be careful to pick your prizes [which represent your desires/wants] because if you’re too hasty or too slow with taking the opportunities, the prize may slip away from your grasp. It applies in real life. Achieving a house requires money, and that requires a good job, which requires you to study hard. If you rush yourself to buy a house and take out loans, if you’re not prepared well, then you’ll end up falling in debt. If you don’t take advantage of your time and not work hard and fall behind, you’ll never have a shot of buying a house in the first place. You can apply this logic to practically any ambitions/wants in life: education, success, family and friendship. In the real world Its some kind of vitamin that helps you sleep which is intended for sleep deprived people pretty much. The name definitely fits for a game like this where its all about having dreams and feeling sleepy despite the main char. Being sleep deprived haha
