I remember this song in grade 6 as well. They were my favourite band. I vaguely recall the teacher talking about the lyrics. She could not get the idea that it was about the news content. I discovered this track on a mixed compilation vinyl my mother had. It is called Ripper. It was about 1990 and I was about 9 years old. Here I am now at 40.
I first heard this on the 1977 compilation "New Wave" (Vertigo Records UK 1977). Skyhooks were included along side the Ramones, New York Dolls, the Damned, Boomtown Rats, Dead Boys, Runaways, Patti Smith, Flaimin' Goovies, Talking Heads, Richard Hell... and "horror movie" fit in just well!

I noticed that! Funny as, because at the time the freeze frame was a fairly modern thing, made possible by technology, and shows like The Goodies used it often. And here we see Skyhooks faking a freezeframe rather than doing it in editing. It's akin to building a brick wall, and then painting a fake brick texture over it just because fake bricks are trendy.
First time I heard this was at the credits of The ABC's of Death. Upon hearing it I somehow thought it was music from recent years. That wasn't the fact! My conclusion: it is timeless!
