Definitely! Players had a lively chat in the SWEM discord, I hope they can convince Hannah to at least sell the project. As you said, everyone deserved better. ♥
Fr, you have to be unhinged, to send a huge word document basically patronising a person, simply because they are upset over being treated like a used rag.
This kind of behavior reminds me of Yandev (the guy who is “making” yandere simulator), and look where he is now. This will lead to nothing good for Hannah, and I do hope she turns this around before it gets even more out of hand.
@@froggy1101 I was getting the exact same vibes! Didn't want to write my own comment about it because he's kinda an actual serial child predator and that felt like an unfair comparison to my knowledge, tho
@@SuperSkyhorse "Bitch, you aren't paying me," is all that had to be said to shut her down. Especially since she was whining about how terrible it was to be poor. Everyone else could eat peanut butter off tortillas, BUT NOT POOR HANNAH. I'm amazed at the number of people willing to work for free. You NEVER work for free, period. I wish I could run a tyrannical project that makes me money while I bitch that all their free work isn't good enough.
@@Everyuki thats really rough. i understand it was volunteered work, but if you were promised pay at all, I do believe you should have gotten it. Even without a written contract, if there is written evidence of a promise of pay being made, I think you all should have been compensated for your hard work. Just my thoughts. So sorry about all that has happened. ❤️
@everyuki8997 and this is why you never EVER *volunteer* to work for a complete stranger. There's a saying "work has worth" and being passionate about something fills no bellies.
I think like 15+ hours of work isn’t legally considered voluntary anymore. Atleast that’s how vaguely I remember it in the Netherlands, can be completely wrong though. :)
The owner was a beta tester on my old minecraft horse server and I couldn't believe how arrogant and rude she was. She had this god complex and thought she was better than everyone and everything because she stood at the head of SWEM.
she would parade around other horse servers with a few of her high rank staff members with the pure purpose of making fun of them so she could talk about how much better swem is. i witnessed this SO many times in staff calls around her and it made me feel so terrible for the other server owners whos work was just being shat on by arrogance..
I'm glad someone spoke about this. I was a beta tester for the mod before it released and the owner made our lives so difficult. They refused to explain to us how features worked or help us out and I remember a lot of rude remarks when people asked questions. This made testing the mod extremely hard when we didn't know how certain features worked or even what was intended to be a feature or not. There were definitely a lot of kind and helpful people though and it's sad to see some peoples hard work go to waste
i witnessed this as a staff member that was beta testing. the staff team would be in calls almost all the time with hannah, and whenever hannah would talk about the beta testers she would literally talk bad about them like they werent helping her test and develop her mod... i thought it was wild. she treated y'all like dirt and expected you all (including me and staff) to put damn near part time hours into helping her get the mod out and test it. so sorry you had to feel that way :/ hannah treated way too many people terribly
reason why I stopped looking, there's no point anymore. The dinosaur games community are cursed, the dragon games community are cursed and the horse/equestrian games are cursed.
@@kitieriwhite7758 Probably because these games are seen as "kids" games for many people, so that's why we can't get a good one, no one wants to make a good game and put a lot of effort and money in it if it's only for children...
I was a beta tester for Swem and applied to be a texture artist and the entire experience was dampened by Hannah. Who was self absorbed and rude at times even in the few interactions I had with her. Her self absorbance knew no bounds, so much that she deemed herself the "Queen" of her world. Volunteers should be treated as such, as people giving their time and skill for a project. They should be treated respect. Hannah treated them like subjects to be ruled. And now I'm very suspicious of where all the missing money went. And
this was my experience as well. totally not fun. i left and cut all ties with hannah for a reason. i believe my last words to her in DMs were "get off your high horse" before i blocked her
i dont really see why she wont just give the mod to someone else if she doesnt want to do it anymore this mod has so much potential and so many people love it
@@unknownunknown-cd7rxShe was an entitled brat of a person. Making this comment ironic. Anyway so many volunteers had done most of the works with the mod I don’t think it counts as hers alone. If any of the precious moders and coders wish to pick it up I encourage them too.
@@unknownunknown-cd7rx while yes she is the owner of the mod, tons of peoples work and dedication went into it. Not to mention people donated to have a full modpack so that they can play it, she took the money and ran with it. It's not being entitled but rather the owner being selfish for abandoning a mod that others put hours and time into.
@@unknownunknown-cd7rx Except they didn't pay for something that is free... they payed to keep SWEM going and to have the full pack. Honestly hope your a troll, because you're insane if your not. It was a COLLECTIVE mod with many different contributors, who clearly suffered for it.
@@novastarburst3939 Nah it attracts scammers, as in, the game-makers are all scammers. They see how desperate we are for actual good horse games and they take advantage of that. Boy if they do. The community is actually pretty decent, better than some others, if you take your time to explore it a bit. "Weirdos" seems a bit accusatory.
Ive only played the demo, but Ranch of Rivershine seems like a very nice little game! It is currently early access, but by a studio that has finished several games already. Probably wont be as big as many other games promise. But cute and fun :) I dont know if the demo is still available but if it is, check it out!
I worked in their Discord server as a barn cat (Q&A person) for about a year and a half and I also worked as a beta tester. The owner made everything so so difficult. This mod had the potential to go much farther but I view the owner’s decision to not release the code a selfish decision. The community has so many more talented people that would LOVE to expand on the mod and add in the stuff we were promised by SCA-WEM, but nope 🤧🤧
I have played this mod a few months ago, and I loved it. I can't believe this mod was so heavy on the shoulders of the volunteers and developers (who are not the owner). hope all the people involved are well
I was waiting for SWEM for YEARS, I was so excited but I noticed it was slowing down and then when Peachy left I had no idea what was going on. Thank you for bringing light to this. It literally sounds like “I’m in a better place now and don’t have to struggle anymore, bye” like huh? You can’t just abandon something because your life is better now when people are giving you their hard earned money.
Swem is under new leaders now (the way I understood) and they're working so much better again. I've never seen the update/announcement channel on their discord so full of life like right now. I really hope they're better with their staffs now and treat them with the love and respect they deserve for working so hard on something so amazing
@noygirlgaming Wait, so it's still ongoing? I haven't been paying attention lately to SWEM news. And I just checked curseforge and that bitch's name in still under Owner and Production Lead. So I'm a little confused by what you said that there're new leaders 🤔
@@catbatrat1760 about 8 months late, and they’re definitely a lot better than they were when Hannah is still present in the server, but Jenny & a couple of other devs are working on some stuff. ah yes starting a passion project, and then quiting said passion project because there is no passion anymore, is "selfish" fun fact, people have lives and dreams, not everyone is stuck online playing video games 24/7
@@unknownunknown-cd7rx Obviously that's not the problem. Did you watch the video? Good day, I hope you don't become like Hannah.
@@acetivorans "unpaid labor" everyone that worked on the project volunteered, they could of asked to be paid or ask for a legal contract agreement, but no, they volunteered, which means "unpaid labor of your own free will", and once again, if you pay for a free product, thats your own stupidity, i got the exact same content as everyone else, and i didnt pay a penny, and what do you think happens to actual games when they are finished? they get abandoned even though theres still a community behind it, for example cyberpunk 2077, after the dlc release, the entire community wants more dlcs, because of how amazing the new dlc was, but nope cdpr(the owners) are abandoning it for other projects, if the community truly cares that much about the mod, they can make "addons" to it, but clearly no one cares enough to do it
I was one of the patrons and supported the mod, I played on the new 2.0 survival server (pay to play too) every day, for near a month, after its long awaited release, when suddenly Hannah said swem was shutting down, as was the server, with no warning. Huge slap in the face for us. It was such a lovely community and they were even letting players volunteer there time into this server (including myself) up until the last few days! I even had receipts of discussing with Hannah and her moderators about becoming staff on the server just days before the shut down notice (not paid of course!)
The first off putting vibe that Hannah gave off was when she was making passive aggressive comments about minecraft builders using glass panels as horse dividers. Like come on its a game? That's the beauty of minecraft is being creative. I also didn't like how she would put down other horse mods. That was just the starting stuff I noticed that gave me a bad vibe from her, and then everything started to go downhill. I am very disappointed how the staff probably mostly Hannah treated peachy. I hope peachy is doing better now as she is a sweetheart. Riley was an awesome creator she's always amazing at her commissions and very sweet and helpful. SWEM really messed up losing such good workers.
i was waiting for someone to say something (video wise). i was in a group with a few ex staff members and the things they told me were HORRIFIC. im at a loss for words, just thank you for this video. it needed to be done & im always so grateful the horse gaming community has someone this isn’t afraid to report on things like this
Your interview with Hannah felt like poking a tiger with a stick and then it turns out the tiger is too domesticated to even cause any real harm. Wonderfully written video as always!
I loved moth. They were so kind to me when i was struggling, I was very sad to hear they left, and we have since lost contact :( I haven't watched but i have a feeling im gonna get pissed off.
I think Hannah’s thought process when something small bothers her is that it’s not a situation she can sit down and talk about. That’s not what she wants. She wants something she can use against the person later on. She wants to have enough ammo to destroy a person thoroughly so she can come out on top while still looking like the martyr because look at all the horrible horrible things you did that made me feel bad! Source: I had a friend like this. We are no longer friends.
Very well done video, as always! The entire SWEM project shutting down scenario was such a saddening, and sudden, chain of events. I love the mod, as do a lot of people in the community, and we all had such high hopes and expectations for it.

@@YTRattle I'm really not all that into horse games at all (usually don't even get one in farming games, LOL) but the quality of your content, both in terms of objective research and observation, and the opinions and how you use them have had me coming back for quite a while now.

Wow, her thesis-like messages to the people who are HELPING her seem like an unhinged mental breakdown. So disgusting to see, and I'm glad you're calling out all the bs. Awesome video as always though, love to see and support my fellow South African.
i am SO happy you made a video on this. hannah is long overdue to be exposed for her shady and arrogant behavior. i was staff under her for a bit as well as a beta tester and my experience working with her is about exactly the same as everyone else who's had a bad experience: hannah asking for too much too soon like practical part time hours of your time, making everything so hard, not crediting work at all (including mine and SSDs work since we were partnered with swem for a minute), leaving me out of notifications and important messages i needed to know about to do my job properly then getting mad at me for not even knowing whats going on because nobody was telling me...... i could go ON AND ON ITS INSANE. hannah is such a parasite and i hope she stays far away from the horse community. WE DONT CLAIM HER.
"leaving me out of notifications and important messages i needed to know about to do my job properly then getting mad at me for not even knowing whats going on because nobody was telling me" I would like to point out this was one of my main points in my LoR. That Hannah blew up on me about. My LoR wasn't directed at her entirely. IT was directed at staff as a whole. She just took it as an attack on herself.
ngl her backwards position on the n-word controversy was not terribly surprising given the red flags of her discord bio. also the later use of "protect and serve"(a common police slogan) and "cancel culture".
Decided to look at it and yeah that’s really strange. Huge red flag, definitely avoiding and leaving the server :/ if I had known about any of this I woulda left sooner
Something that makes me laugh is that she said “swem is shutting down”, and then In the same message said “we’ll continue if we get the money for it” which means you’re *not* shutting down, just slowing production, and over the past few weeks between then and now we’ve had consistent updates about things they’re continuing to make and add to the mod 💀💀💀 pick a side bro at this point it just seems shes doing it as a publicity stunt for pity money
The amount of work and effort that goes into each and everyone of your videos is absolutely outstanding. You are such an inspiration Rattle! Amazing video as always! 🥰
Its such a shame that theres this curse on horse games, so many have promised the moon and produced a pebble. So far ranch or rivershine is pretty good and not much bad has happened from what i know. Astride still has a smidge of potential from the little updates i see every week. I wish they would look at the wolf quest devs and learn from them.
I was tracking SWEM mods' life for quite a while now being even on their discord server. I was very upset when they announced a shut down of this project. It had so much potentat...
I feel so bad for all of them, especially peachy, her being how I found out about the mod she’s a genuinely good person so when she left the team and then dropped a video talking about how her mental health etc has went downhill I felt it was connected with the team, but damn didn’t know it was this much. She’s a good person, and the way mothfet was apologizing after a THREE THOUSAND word doc of her essentially flaming her just hurts to see, glad your talking about this though 💯
I talked to Hannah one on one, on call, a few times and everytime I felt like I was being talked down to. She always seemed like she thought she knew best and anytime I would ask a question she made me feel dumb for even saying anything. It personally turned me off of the mod and the discord as a whole.
Thank you for giving me proper credit, and I hope the screenshots were helpful! It's a shame what happened with SWEM but its good that all of these things regarding Hannah are brought to light. Thank you Rattle for not being afraid to shed light on bad situations, developers and games in the horse gaming community. ♥
I'm quite surprised and shocked at a lot of it because I had no idea, but I guess none of us regular fans and users did. When the announcement about "shutting down" came out I did write to the suggestions channel on Discord to point out that the title had nothing to do with the actual content, and it was unnecessarily panic-inducing and dramatic. They were and are so far not shutting down, but cutting down on development, there are still dev days, SWEM is still available to play, just no more 100% effort towards it. Of course my message was ignored because seeing people panic and flail around because of a big dramatic show of text was more fun... Thank you for the video Rattle
It definitely came across like she was paranoid. And her not being able to take criticism without feeling like she was attacked, was concerning. The lack of professionalism on her end and pointing fingers at everyone but herself just shows a lot of concerning factors. It’s sad it all had to end like this. I hope everyone involved or were hurt by her find peace 💜
Am i the only one who found the mods and developer extremely rude to fans and the community? Just like every horse game server, the people would kiss the devs' ass while they treated the community like shit.
Oh wow. I had heard of SWEM, but wasn't familiar with the details. This Hannah handled the situation so poorly, the fact she couldn't even let others continue what she started is testament to what kind of person she is. Bloated ego is a pain for everyone else to deal with. Hope everyone affected can heal and continue onward in life. Thank you for a great video Rattle, the effort you put into these really show! 💖
I am so glad you said something! I felt like I was the only one noticing things. It seems like there's an air of toxic positivity and 'loyalty' to the owner. Any (constructive) negative or even neutral feedback/suggestions/etc. are often looked down on or written off as rude
Yeah, I messaged the discord about a feature SWEM added (where it turns all vanilla leads into SWEM anchored leads) because me and my players on my server HATED the change since it was massively glitchy and made leads unusable for most people, and I couldn’t find a way to change it, so I asked and while the mod who answered was very nice, the answer was essentially ‘we won’t change it’ and then they carried on with an irrelevant conversation that wasn’t on topic for the channel. When a mod introduces a feature that overwrites a core vanilla feature and the owner refuses to even consider adding a config to make the change optional, usually it’s a sign the mod is run by an ego far too big. The immediate shit down and topic change made me feel like I wasn’t welcome in the community
thank you for reading the shut down announcement the way you did. i saw it as soon as she sent it and I think I was either first or second to react to it with the skull emoji LOL. so dramatic when it could've been a short announcement explaining what's happening
I had no idea Hannah was like that, I’m upset that swem is shutting down I was really excited but I hope all those devs and other volunteers find something else that they love and that treats them better. I do really hope that maybe one day swem will happen, but unfortunately I don’t have too much hope for it,
even if it was her original project and she doesnt want anyone else to continue to develop it (for whatever reasons they may be) it still comes off as incredibly selfish, even if it was her mod originally when other people started working/ volunteering it became theirs as well, even the players. its so frustrating hearing the 'reasons' she cant sell or give it away, it grew to be a community project, it would have been known/ remembered because of that community, not just her
Hannah really sounds like she's stuck in high school trying so hard to be part of the cool girls club. The back stabbing, the unprofessionalism, the insecurity and completely heinous attitude to anyone that has a problem... yikes. And after all of that, she still couldn't find a way to make up for it at all. She really could have taken that interview with you to save her own ass but she chose to let the ship continue to sink. Stuck in her own ways, completely bitter and vitriolic until the end. Props to all the testers and developers who tried to make something great. This mod looked really promising. Too bad it was left in the wrong hands, a project lead who cared more about everything else but the mod itself. Makes me wonder if it's even worth fighting for the source code. Hannah will probably cherish that small victory of having that to hold over peoples heads like a spoiled kid waving ice cream over the other kids that couldn't get it.
Like I knew there was issues and signs of deeper issues, but like .... THERE WERE ISSUES So happy these things are coming to the light to give the ones effected knowledge that this was not normal or correct. I hope those still donating see this so they can be fully informed as to what their money is currently 'supporting'.
So essentially she bailed because she started a business transaction and got tired of being treated like a...business owner. Ask ANYONE who works in retail for more than 5 minutes and they will tell you that you'll be treated in the worst ways by the most unassuming people. Its part of life.
There goes another one promising game project about horses and equestrian life.. What a surprise! 💀 And because of what? BAD 👏COMMUNICATION👏 Come on horse game devs LEARN YOUR LESSONS!! I am really sad about this one because I genuinely love minecraft and I was craving for a good horse mod for SO long!! What a shame.. Thank you for your thorough commentary on this matter. 💖
I always wonder what is it about horse games that attract this kind of person? So many projects tank because of people who can't put their self-absorbed interests aside or otherwise just turn completely unhinged when they have a small amount of power over a game/mod/discord server or similar. "No one wants my job." "I won't sell it to someone who wants to buy it." Which is it, Hannah? Great video Rattle!
Horse girls are often white, Christian, conservative and American. Those traits often correlate with right-wing views and entitlement due to white supremacist views. This is not at all surprising.
This one kinda hits hard. I used to watch Hannah's live streams where Hannah, Peach and Reilly would play together as friends, I had no idea of Hannah's behavior
There's nothing wrong with being a solo dev and that may be the better option for Hannah. Nothing will humble you more than learning exactly how much you in fact do not know about development and modding. Some people shouldn't be in charge of anything ever, much less volunteers who are trying to help you make your vision a reality.
This is so sad, oh my god. As a horse lover, i was ao excited to see this mod grow. I wondered why ut slowed to a stop, why peachy stoppes making swem vids. Now.. now i know. And honestly? Im glad its over. Knowing how it was managed, how people were treated, makes me not want to touch the mod anymore. Its cursed. I pray someday, someone will make a horse mod, or even a game, with real love and care. Not narccissism and money-grabbing. Thank you for the video, and thank you all who out their everything into this mod. May it be remembered for what it could have been, not what it became.
Horse games are not cursed. They are just constantly being pushed for and built by people with big dreams, but no real ability to build the projects on the scale they wish to see. Big companies with ACTUAL knowledge won't invest in such projects because it would cost them more than it would earn them in the long run. The companies that do try to build them are usually smaller, unknown, and often inexperienced companies who are trying to build the next-big thing, and seeing that horse games are needed, but rare, they think they can make a quick buck by pulling on the community's desperation. To make things worse, due to lack of funding, they continuously keep hiring developers without experience, skill or fresh out of college. Why? Because they are cheaper, hence why most horse game end up looking and being cheap buggy messes. It's one of the main reasons why I have tremendous support for one-man teams like the dev behind Ranch of Rivershine. Eloise is being realistic, and has set goals and limits for what she wants for the game. Why? Because she knows what she can and can't do. She has an idea what the game should be like, and she isn't willing to risk it by trying to make it over complicated or by trying to implement stuff she isn't capable of making by herself properly. That's admirable. She might not produce THE HORSE GAME of a lifetime, but so far she's the only one who has been able to create a horse game that hasn't pissed off the whole playerbase for what it brings to the table.
As someone with a horse game pipedream, I'm terrified of falling into this trap of letting my ambitions surpass my abilities and letting a bunch of people down. It's so easy to get overexcited by your own ideas and then bite off way more than you can chew. I guess, if nothing else, I can learn from the failures of the past and see what works and what doesn't, but it feels like such a narrow line to walk between ambition and reality.
Thank you for putting your time and energy into this. A lot of us needed to hear the real truth, not some beatin' around the bush sob tale. I made no insane impact but in my heart I felt like I did. I am just someone that paid $5, which was the most I could sincerely donate, for over a year straight to see SWEM thrive. To encourage progress, pay for the countless effort the Devs put in, and to even help benefit Hannah through her SAID finical issues. It breaks my heart to see such an amazing idea and mod be taken care of by the wrong hands. Shame on her for being so selfish and cruel to so many people that didn't deserve it. I seriously hope she finds help for her narcissistic personality and I hope she enjoys her so called new found "better life" outside of the project. Lastly and MOST importantly, I hope the victims in this video are finding peace and love, because I'm sending so much to them. Again, thank you for the educational video and thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone that spoke up about the truth. You are heard and I and so many are listening! 💕
god im so disappointed, the community around this mod is so full of love and passion and Hannah is just such a mean and arrogant person, like why wtf 😭😭 This mod was def achievable, if she wasn't such a freak about control it could have been done :(
as someone who did volenteer for a few months as a builder, i agree with everything said. from what i remember, if you started to not respond to seeing that you have a task for the week/ started missing tasks, they would check in and make sure everything is ok. i had gotten kicked from the team, for missing one assigned task, after a couple week break that the entire team got. they never checked in, np comunication. just got a message saying that they decided to remove me, for missing multiple tasks even tho it was only one.
i had no idea mothfet was fired and i cannot believe that ): i loved their work and especially the skins i commissioned them for. i feel so bad for all the staff under hannah i didn’t know any of this about her and it leaves such a horrible taste in my mouth. makes me second guess using the mod i was so excited for.
hot damn. add a bit of "crazy" to her characteristics too. "I'm *Closing* this chapter"- *Leaves money getting options open* girl, pick a lane. Is it closed or is it open? I'd hecking love to make a horse game. i also know I'm incapable of doing so. Like ark/palworld with horses instead.
I am at a loss for words, as someone who rooted for this mod, crap i got a pc and bought the game FOR THIS MOD and to know people where treated so horribly makes me sick. Im hesrt broken that she took advantage of VOLUNTEERS and treated them like crap and talked behind just peachy's (who seems like a rrally nice person) back when she was your markings person. I can definitely agree with the Is narcissistic behavior and if i had never found this video i would have though she was a good person. Peachy of your seeing this im so sorry you had to go through that and to everyone who worked (and did not get paid for your blood sweat and tears) for her i hope you all get some sort of Relief with being forced to put up with that Unbelievable childish and narcissistic behavior.
I didnt keep up on alot of details when i was in the community, what i saw was an awesome horse mod for minecraft, and i even backed it and was excited for the release, when i saw the shutting down message tbh i was in complete shock as i thought things where going good, its sad to learn all of this shady behind the scenes stuff...
I'm so glad I never went ahead with my application for becoming staff- I have enough issues as it is. I'm so sorry to all the staff who had to deal with such a horrible human being...
i had actually never heard of this as i am not really a minecraft kind of guy but it was really interesting to hear about the demand of a minecraft equestrian mod. i sometimes mess around with horse games out of boredom but honestly the best "horse" game ive ever played is rdr2.. which isnt really a horse game at its core but horses are really important for it and apperantly a lot of men are horsegirls at heart
Excellent video, love many of the points you brought up in it. You know it's a bad day for the equestrian community when EA is one of the better "horse" games, haha. The amount of money put into SWEM is insane, even if it is a vague estimate. The way some of SWEM's team was treated is mind-boggling, thank you so much for getting their statements and allowing them the chance to speak their mind about everything. I've heard a lot of the horror stories, but to be able to make an hour-long video about it? With proof? Absolutely insane. That being said, there is a horse/equestrian project a lot like SWEM that is currently being created to bring some better horses to Minecraft. It's a little over a month into development and the team who is creating it is made up of some of the fired, quit, or let go SWEM dev team. This new mod's development team is honestly amazing, and some of my favorite people to work with. This is a bit of a self-promotion because it makes me so sad to see so many horse projects get off the ground, get thousands of dollars of funding, then turn around and drop it for vague reasons. Also, Hannah isn't the only amazing mod creator out in the world. Anyone can make cool pixel ponies a reality :)
@@frostwolf2423 Yeah they do, I'm actually in the server with Phant!! I'll drop the link in a seperate comment since im unsure if it'll get marked as spam, but its the Phantom Equestrian Mod server, as well as there is Swemy Horseys which is a multiplayer server for the SWEM mod (Phant is the head admin of Swemy Horseys, and the owner of Phant EQ).
christ, that’s awful. I feel SO bad for all the volunteers that worked so hard but didn’t get a single cent or even a finished product out of it. which is also why I was wondering, if they made around $63k… and if they spent $224 per month on the server for around 36 (?) months, that’s $8,064, plus the other $1000+ one developer received and some more money for two other team members, that’s maybe $10k total, $15k at most. so unless other people got paid that we didn’t know about… what happened to the tens of thousands of dollars left over??? I don’t want to start jumping to conclusions but if she had whole team of unpaid volunteers and at least $50k left over what exactly happened to all the money??? to follow up with that, I’m surprised that the volunteers didn’t start demanding to get paid or otherwise ditch the team by the time they were poring tens of hours a week into working on this mod coupled with Hannah’s aggressive deadlines and ridiculous revisions, they absolutely should have pushed for money because they were quite literally the entire lifeblood of the game (not Hannah). this is NOT blaming the volunteers in the slightest, I completely empathize with their situation I simply just don’t know how else to word this. but I hope that in the future for any aspiring developers or anyone hoping to help volunteer for a project- volunteering is totally fine, especially for tiny indie projects at first, but once you put in so much time and effort and the creator you work for starts making money for themselves, you absolutely deserve part of that compensation if you really helped build the project from ground up. don’t be afraid to ask for what you rightly deserve, and leave if they refuse to compensate you for your work. trust me, it’s not worth putting so much blood sweat and tears into a project where you see NONE of the funds and work entirely for free. *if you work and are treated as a paid employee, then you better get compensated like one.*
I was thinking the same thing , and it was kind of all of sudden life is better and i'm shutting down. Well yeah you had all that money. She points out too much about how she was poor and had to eat tortilla with peanut butter every day. I was so poor i had to eat from a food pantry and limit how much a day i ate that, and the worst was the canned pork and chicken. However when i tell my story about my having to eat i just say i was so poor i had to eat from food pantry for while. People who go into great dramatic detail like her might not be telling the truth. No one saw her bank account so no one knows what she really had. Some developers and twitch content creators will state that food , bills , and anything needed to keep the developer doing their job healthy and running the equipment to work on the project is where the money goes that people donate. I find it hard to believe she could not eat better than that with all the money that was missing and not spent on the project.
Let’s be honest, it’s always a great day when Rattle posts. I must say I found this mod very complicated but was excited to see what was coming, I didn’t play it very much though as it was quite laggy for me so I just stuck to watching the roleplay videos, I didn’t know all of this was going on behind the scenes either so that’s definitely made me see it through a different perspective. Anyway as always thank you for making these amazing videos, I get so much joy out of watching them ❤️❤️❤️
Theres certainly a lot of narcissim and egotism but i almost wonder if theres also improper mourning that occured? Hannah hangs so much onto Lucy and especially (atleast from how the video made it come off) the death was super sudden... i almost wonder if shes refusing to give away the project cause she's clinging to it as what she had of Lucy. I dunno Hannah seems to have so much going on in the head i think that donation money should just go to therapy at this point 💀
I feel like this kind of toxicity that is shown by the person who started this mod is very common in the equestrian/horse world, Pretty much all stables I've been to have had some pretty serious issues/Drama, I feel like it's impossible to avoid. And there's a serious ego problem amongst horse people which makes me glad I quit riding and just stuck to my other interests.
This was suggested to me today, conveniently on the day that it was announced that SWEM is supposedly making a comeback. I heard some of the terrible things that happened behind the scenes from a friend that worked on this, but i never knew how horrid it was beyond that. This is disgraceful. I'm watching with morbid curiosity to see how poorly it goes this time now that it's going to be contracted out from now on. How upsetting that no one that got it where it was now was payed save for a few people... I always found it pretty distasteful to try to replace other mods without really doing anything different, too. Pretty much every mod is made as a passion project from creators who get zero compensation, and it's despicable that this one that got funded so much didn't pay those people who contributed when they easily could've. Thank you for making this video, it definitely needs to be told, especially when people talking about it on Discord get shut down rudely, even in unrelated servers.
This is just actually insane to me that someone can be so full of themselves at all times. I'm currently working on a roblox game with a few others and i am so hoping nothing like this ever happens
Very unfortunate, this mod was looking like it was going somewhere at the start, amazing animations and to bring a whole community together. thinking about it more this mod felt like it kept wanting money and promoting donations more then I've seen other mods do. i did notice that when it was in the making but i thought they were paying the designers, now hearing that they were volunteer base. it just makes me think what Hannah is now doing with a good amount of money that was meant for swem. as i don't see 63,00 dollars going into this mod or the developers
truly unfortunate... I literally bought a pc just for minecraft and SWEM,, this is sooo saddd i feel so deeply for the people that truly cared and put everything they had into it... thats being saidddd someone should make a mock up of this mod and make it wildly GRAND with the support of all of the equestrian community,, Id support ASAPPPP. Justice for everyone but thebigH!!
I am absolutely not a horse person but I have been modding video games for over fourteen years and this entire situation is so flippin' common in apparently every modding community. Hurt egos, people not capable of taking criticism, "project leaders" who think they can exploit the people providing the materials/meshes/textures/voice acting, etc. And as soon as money becomes relevant, everything just becomes worse. I can still remember when a modder threatened a 12 year-old because the latter accidentally had shared their paid-for Sims 2 hair mesh. Bonus points when the person managing the project has no idea what they are doing, as Hannah here. I personally had to leave a project I was part of (Mod for TES: Oblivion) because the "manager" was incredible condescending because he could not understand how texturing models worked and asked for things that were just not possible. Being passionate about a hobby is a great thing, but a lot of people are also in it because they are Narcissists who want to live on the praise of the community. In the end it is not the mod or the game that matters, but them stroking their own ego. That is why they react so aggressively when things are not going perfectly.
Yeah. If there's one thing I've learned it's if the project lead is an "ideas" person and little to nothing else it's better to just not join up and save yourself the headache
@BlinkingTwin i think having an "idea person" as a lead is not inherently a problem, but it can become one depending on their motivation. I am currently working as an artist for a tabletop project and the team leader is an idea person but he is motivated by the project itself. He wants to see it work and to be a success, and thus is aware that he has to listen to his team. People like Hannah are motivated by ego, not the project itself and that is the main issue. You could immediately tell by the fact that it was devoted to *her horse*- the project was not about the project itself, but her. She did not care about it being successful, which is why she dropped it like a hot potato and was not willing to hand it to someone else-without herself, in her eyes, the project does not need to exist, because Hannah and her ego always were the main motivation. And since success of the mod was just a positive side effect to all the ego stroking, she had no reason to listen to more experienced people.
@@ragnarkjell8586 That's why I also said little to nothing else tbh. Ideas are great but without a drive to see them succeed and a willingness to pull your own weight it's an eventual crash and burn almost every time with projects like these
I am actually so mad at equestrian games. These were my childhood, my LIFE was Star Stable for years. Then everything went down hill, Star Stable greedy, every new horse game sucks, and I was going to support new horse games but now I CANT, I’m not even supporting Astride because of what has happened to EVERY SINGLE new horse game. SWEM was good, i played it and it was fine. Then it shut down and I was just shocked. And through all this, I rode horses irl, and horse games helped me connect to horses when I coudnt ride. Then horse games started crashing and so did my equestrian life, I just recently quit horse riding because of how toxic horse people can be. I’m literally done with the whole industry. I’m so grateful for videos like yours Rattle and you’ve been inspiring me to start a channel similar in the future ❤
This is (one of) the biggest “oh” moments ever. I was active in that Server for a month everyday until I got bored after release, I chatted with both Mothfet and Hannah, this whole thing is just so sad. People who work = deserve income. I don’t know why it had to get personal, the servers still open and it’s just like wow, how drama can tear things apart. Projects. “Family”. Maybe it never was, maybe Hannah love bombed the entire project, I’m happy she’s moved on from Lucy and is going to push through her career but she made it seem like to a whopping nearly million downloads on forge that it was gonna be longterm. Mothfet had a small business on her discord idk if she still does but selling minecraft skin bundles and she made hannah her most expensive choice for free (she’d usually charge 50), she REALLY needed that money. I’m convinced the drama is just horse people the community like star stable ETG astride now swem, maybe one day we can be equal and not so catty over a good thing they had going. The sleepless nights making sure I got a beautiful arena and getting all the secret coats, RIP SWEM fr. I own horses and have been barn to barn IRL, man oh man, the DRAMA. I kid you Not it’s horrific and I’m still a MINOR, kids (haha kid you not) get dragged into all of it. It’s horse people. Why can’t we all say we love horses and call it a day, it’s like Adam and Eve except they started the chain by saying the person has ill-fitted tack 😔😔 staying in 3rd person for future projects, idm going on patreon subscriptions for it but I’m rarely logging on star stable and I’m sticking to the best unintentional horse game rdr2. Goodnight everyone 💀
I would do anything for just one good quality horse game that isn’t surrounded by drama, no wonder SSO is able to charge obscene prices in this market. Just makes me sad because as someone who is currently unable to own a real horse and hasn’t rode at all in a year horse games are the only way I can really enjoy my lifelong passion. It would be nice if game developers realised that there is demand for a horse game that isn’t childish and that has good graphics, I love playing RDR2 I just want something like that but with more focus on the horses. I get that basically all horse games are aimed at children but I’d love something more mature that won’t get repetitive after a few hours like most horse games do. I was upset seeing that SWEM is being discontinued, I enjoyed it and was excited to see more actual gameplay features but at least I have the mod downloaded so I guess I can still play what was already released which is still an upgrade from vanilla minecraft horses
i was a supporter for probably about a year to SWEM. when i heard the news they were shutting down, i was so angry. like how could they just essentially take everything they had and throw it away? they had so much potential and could have gone way further. i feel like i wasted my money when i could have been supporting something else. overall, i think this was a great video breaking down everything in a manner that everyone could understand.
Dude i dont even care about HORSE GAMES but your videos still manage to keep my attention. If you branched out to more genres I think your channel would blow up
Ah, my dose of horse drama, thank you Rattle. This one is especially potent. Hannah doesn't even TRY to hide her ego, it's insane. I would not of been any bit civil like you or mothfet were in this situation, that's for fucking sure; so I especially commend you on that. Not a single thing she tried to say in a "nice way" was any semblance of civility. Every sentence oozed with venom, even without your narration that drove that point home. It's such a shame that this keeps happening to promising projects. A problem I see is that some of these devs treat this like a social circle and not a group of coworkers. The minute money is involved, this is no longer a fun project with friends. If you do not deliver what people paid for, you're a scam. Not to say you can't be friends or have a bit of fun while you work, but the way Hannah whines that they "used to be friends" as if that should have any relevance is wholly inappropriate. With Hannah at the helm, this project was doomed from the start. She contributed nothing but stress to the dev team, from the sound of it. Here's hoping the project some of the devs moved to has more success.. I don't even play Minecraft, but I hope to see them thriving.
I've never really been into horses and horse games, but I've always really loved watching game reviews/rants and such. This channel is really great, though, because not only have I learned a load about different games, but I've learned a lot about horses and the seemingly lack of content for horse lovers and all the stuff the community goes through. It's really great to see a community have such passion for their interests, and still be willing to call bad actors out like this! Keep up the great work, Rattle!
I first found Swem on tiktok a while ago, and thought "Oh cool, a new horse mod," Found out I had to pay to even play it, and never looked into it again. I knew someone that was on the staff team. They never said anything bad at the time (We weren't much on speaking terms at the time), but they sent an invite to the discord but never joined it. Finding this video reminded me that my roommate was still in the discord and found out that the mod is still active and got a recent update posted around the start of November. They had also stated they finally have hired contractors to work on the mod it seems 🤔
"all taxation is theft" being shown loud and proud on Hannah's profile and the general RAHHHH AMERICAAAAA vibes is an immediate red flag for me before even getting to the rest of the video lol

This kind of behavior reminds me of Yandev (the guy who is “making” yandere simulator), and look where he is now. This will lead to nothing good for Hannah, and I do hope she turns this around before it gets even more out of hand.

I'm amazed at the number of people willing to work for free. You NEVER work for free, period. I wish I could run a tyrannical project that makes me money while I bitch that all their free work isn't good enough.
Honestly, not paying someone for their work is actually very illegal. Someone should take her to court.
There are definitely lots of technicalities behind it. We all volunteered work willingly, so it is legal. There are lots of factors
Mmm to be fair they volunteered and could have stoped at any point in time, they didn't have to keep working on it they chose to
I think like 15+ hours of work isn’t legally considered voluntary anymore.
In other words, she's a stereotypical Horse Girl.
Thank you for sharing all of this and giving a collective voice to those who felt like their voice wouldn’t be loud enough 🤍
Thank YOU, peachy for being willing to speak up about this! ♥
There were definitely a lot of kind and helpful people though and it's sad to see some peoples hard work go to waste
i witnessed this as a staff member that was beta testing. the staff team would be in calls almost all the time with hannah, and whenever hannah would talk about the beta testers she would literally talk bad about them like they werent helping her test and develop her mod... i thought it was wild. she treated y'all like dirt and expected you all (including me and staff) to put damn near part time hours into helping her get the mod out and test it. so sorry you had to feel that way :/ hannah treated way too many people terribly
bro???? why even open the mod to beta testers if you aren't going to work with them??

I even had receipts of discussing with Hannah and her moderators about becoming staff on the server just days before the shut down notice (not paid of course!)

i am SO happy you made a video on this. hannah is long overdue to be exposed for her shady and arrogant behavior. i was staff under her for a bit as well as a beta tester and my experience working with her is about exactly the same as everyone else who's had a bad experience: hannah asking for too much too soon like practical part time hours of your time, making everything so hard, not crediting work at all (including mine and SSDs work since we were partnered with swem for a minute), leaving me out of notifications and important messages i needed to know about to do my job properly then getting mad at me for not even knowing whats going on because nobody was telling me...... i could go ON AND ON ITS INSANE. hannah is such a parasite and i hope she stays far away from the horse community.
@@rileycasper What does "LoR" mean? Sorry, I'm tired... ^^;
ngl her backwards position on the n-word controversy was not terribly surprising given the red flags of her discord bio. also the later use of "protect and serve"(a common police slogan) and "cancel culture".
totally agree. i immediately felt strange about her when the n-slur issue arose and then when i saw her discord profile i was like yuck.
The second I saw the bio I thought "oh no".
Decided to look at it and yeah that’s really strange. Huge red flag, definitely avoiding and leaving the server :/ if I had known about any of this I woulda left sooner
what was in her bio? out of curiosity

I hate how some people take the horse gaming community for granted.. We really deserve better 💔
Thank you for the video Rattle
hate to say it but as soon as i saw her discord profile banner i had a gut feeling which way this was gonna go 😬
It definitely came across like she was paranoid.
This Hannah handled the situation so poorly, the fact she couldn't even let others continue what she started
is testament to what kind of person she is. Bloated ego is a pain for everyone else to deal with. Hope everyone affected can heal and continue onward in life. Thank you
for a great video Rattle, the effort you put into these really show!

I do really hope that maybe one day swem will happen, but unfortunately I don’t have too much hope for it,
The audacity of being cruel to people, that work FREE to make *YOUR* dream come true!
That's a level of being ungrateful I never imagined!

Thanks! Glad you liked it! And nice to know I kept your attention! ♥ ^^
My heart goes out for Riley, Peachy and all staff who were treated badly while working with SWEM. ❤
even if it was her original project and she doesnt want anyone else to continue to develop it (for whatever reasons they may be) it still comes off as incredibly selfish, even if it was her mod originally when other people started working/ volunteering it became theirs as well, even the players. its so frustrating hearing the 'reasons' she cant sell or give it away, it grew to be a community project, it would have been known/ remembered because of that community, not just her
Hannah really sounds like she's stuck in high school trying so hard to be part of the cool girls club.
The Titanic part was so unexpected and your acting made me smile during the whole reading 😂
I applied to be an animator for SWEM in September 2021 and had my application rejected. I think that was for the best.
Like I knew there was issues and signs of deeper issues, but like .... THERE WERE ISSUES
So happy these things are coming to the light to give the ones effected knowledge that this was not normal or correct.
BAD 👏COMMUNICATION👏
Come on horse game devs LEARN YOUR LESSONS!! I am really sad about this one because I genuinely love minecraft and I was craving for a good horse mod for SO long!! What a shame.. Thank you for your thorough commentary on this matter. 💖
Not even horse game devs, it's all devs and aspiring devs
@@Im_Iconic-Youre_Ironic All devs? I think the WolfQuest devs are pretty awesome, it would be nice if more were like them.
I had absolutely no idea that those things happened! That's... wow. I have no words
Just like horseman Rick Gore of Think Like a Horse says: Horses attract bullies, because they don't fight back.
But also horses attract weirdo conservatives cosplaying as confederate soldiers and trad wives.
That man is a nasty misogynist and more ornery than a sorrel mare but by god is he an amazing horseman
Ranch Of Rivershine FTW

god im so disappointed, the community around this mod is so full of love and passion and Hannah is just such a mean and arrogant person, like why wtf 😭😭
This mod was def achievable, if she wasn't such a freak about control it could have been done :(
as someone who did volenteer for a few months as a builder, i agree with everything said. from what i remember, if you started to not respond to seeing that you have a task for the week/ started missing tasks, they would check in and make sure everything is ok. i had gotten kicked from the team, for missing one assigned task, after a couple week break that the entire team got. they never checked in, np comunication. just got a message saying that they decided to remove me, for missing multiple tasks even tho it was only one.
i had no idea mothfet was fired and i cannot believe that ): i loved their work and especially the skins i commissioned them for. i feel so bad for all the staff under hannah i didn’t know any of this about her and it leaves such a horrible taste in my mouth. makes me second guess using the mod i was so excited for.
hot damn. add a bit of "crazy" to her characteristics too.

I was so upset to see this mod get discontinued all of a sudden. I haven’t watched the video yet so i’m sure i’ll come back to add to this once I do.
i had actually never heard of this as i am not really a minecraft kind of guy but it was really interesting to hear about the demand of a minecraft equestrian mod. i sometimes mess around with horse games out of boredom but honestly the best "horse" game ive ever played is rdr2.. which isnt really a horse game at its core but horses are really important for it and apperantly a lot of men are horsegirls at heart
Anyone can make cool pixel ponies a reality :)

christ, that’s awful.

I hate that swem is shutting down, because it had so much potential. On the other hand, I can now watch your video an that still makes me happy :D
YESSSS. I WONDERED IF YOU WOULD COVER THIS!!! I SAW IT WAS SHUTTING DOWN
i was a supporter for probably about a year to SWEM. when i heard the news they were shutting down, i was so angry. like how could they just essentially take everything they had and throw it away? they had so much potential and could have gone way further. i feel like i wasted my money when i could have been supporting something else. overall, i think this was a great video breaking down everything in a manner that everyone could understand.
Dude i dont even care about HORSE GAMES but your videos still manage to keep my attention. If you branched out to more genres I think your channel would blow up
Oh wow! Thanks :D I have a couple of ideas lined up 👀 I'm SO hoping to get them out in the next couple of months!
Keep up the great work, Rattle!
this is so spooky bc I just found SWEM and was super hyped but didn't want to play right away and went to yt to see your video
Oh yeah! They are pushing to get the mod released, which is awesome! :D
"all taxation is theft" being shown loud and proud on Hannah's profile and the general RAHHHH AMERICAAAAA vibes is an immediate red flag for me before even getting to the rest of the video lol
Even though ive quit trying to find good horse games, its really good to settle down with these videos
Funnily enough, Red Dead Redemption 2 is my favorite current horse game
