One time while cycling, I was on my way back home after a long bike ride but felt my energy crash and could barely pedal, realized I forgot to bring my bike locks, so looked for a drive thru. Didn't have a problem, picked up something to eat and drink at the drive thru and then went around and found a table to sit at with my bike being guarded. I was able to recover the energy I needed ^-^

I feel like that's a really practical use for the drive-thru. Thank you for sharing this! 🙌

I love the dramatic music as you are just chilling in the drive thru lane lol. Great video

Two reasons you might want to avoid the drive through, and just lock up and go inside. 1. Idling cars pumping gross fumes at you. 2. You'll often get your order faster as a walk in. You don't have to wait for the orders in front of you, they'll get it to you as soon as it's ready. But the drive through is great in a pinch.

These are two really great points. Drive-thru is probably best for novelty, or as needed for some interesting circumstances. Great to know it's possible!

Great video. My bike is decked out with storage bags but I just bought a motorcycle and have no luggage on it. A shoulder sling bag is perfect for the drive thru, just swing it to the front to quickly load the food items, then back over your shoulder and take off. Doesn't work for drinks but I avoid those because of the expense, and I carry a bottle of water always.

I have a fanny pack but a shoulder sling would be much better! Thank you for the tip!

Just commenting to say that I happened on your videos for the first time a couple days ago, and I've been really enjoying your content. I'm surprised you're not bigger! While I don't think I can 100% get rid of my car for an e-bike, I've been enjoying living vicariously through you. Keep it up, man!

during covid when the lobbies were closed; Macs wouldn't let me use drive thru without a car. However; that was in CO. CO isn't part if America anymore.

Been riding my bikes thru drive inns for yrs. Only problem is sometimes the small profile does not trigger the system as to someone is at the order area. Cheers and be safe. Oh! most drive in attendants are very nice to bikers as well. And the change dropped at the window by cagers is a bonus for you.

I've heard that sometimes it doesn't trigger! And yes some good hidden benefits 😂

I normally go to my local dunkins for my morning latte. Never had a problem with the store but I do try not to do it when its busy. I usually get those "disapproving looks" from people waiting in their cars. One time while inside the store I did ask the manager about it and this is what she said "technically we're not supposed to do it because of liability but since you are a regular and very nice we just don't care".

    • @ericebikes
      @ericebikes  วันที่ผ่านมา

That is an awesome benefit of being a regular and easy going. Thank you for sharing and Godspeed!

I think those safety guidelines were written by car-centric people. A drive-thru is like a parking lot, with such low speeds, I don't believe the chances of getting hit by a car is anything as scary as they make it sound. Also even if you get bumped, they're going 5 mphs or less, so what. I'm for encouraging more people to use bikes for transportation and order whatever way is most convenient. Sometimes I don't have a bike lock, or there's no place to lock it at the establishment.

Yeah, and I feel like post-covid society made it somewhat more common!

really enjoyed the video, some years ago I was doing drive thrus and had mixed results. I actually have a playlist of the videos:
    th-cam.com/play/PLkQ7zZ6oXZYN9MHS7Z7_EUttgl6aP4dgM.html
And my total success/failure score was:
    Mcdonalds 0/2
    Burger king 2/0
    Walgreens 1/0
    Taco Bell 0/1

Let me know if any of the drive-thrus are weight-based. I've run into that problem. Then I have to just go knock on the window. Also, I found it upsetting that they closed all the dining rooms during covid and just kept it that way for awhile after. I detest drive thru.
