My grandad forgot more about baseball than I'll probably ever know. On his death bed we were talking about the world series from 2014. He died in April of 2015. Really wish he could've seen his Cubs win it all just once. He tried out for them back in the late 40's and actually made the team as a shortstop. Talked to my grandma and she said "it's either baseball or me." He chose her and she was the only thing in the world that meant more to him than baseball. But he remained a huge Cubs fan until the day he died. A couple of days before he died I told him I was thinking about joining the army, and asked him for some advice because I had absolute respect for him. He told me, "You're worthy of respect as much as me. You're a better man than me. You go for it if it means something to you...Go do it! I'm so proud of you." As he pumped his fist. Shortly after I got to my unit in 2016, we went to the field for our first training exercise. I was sleeping on the ground when I overheard the Cubs won the series. All I could think about that night was my grandfather and how happy he would've been. Kind of bittersweet. But during the 2 or 3 hours of sleep I got that night, I dreamed of him. He was smiling and came up to me. I said, "They did it for ya grandad!" His response was that he pointed to the American flag on my right shoulder and said, "you did it too." I'll never forget that. I'm not an overly religious person, but I truly believe he came to visit me that night to tell me how proud he was of me, and that he was out there somewhere celebrating. Miss you grandad. They finally got one for ya.

I've never seen so many grown men cry and it was unreal. My small town was roaring as I walked down the street and saw people screaming with joy and even seeing no one and hearing them. I watched it with my fellow cubs fans and our friends who are cards fans and they were so happy for us and our cubs! It was truly surreal!

As odd as this may sound, when Ross bobbled the ball and Rizzo caught it, I knew they would win the series. Same thing happened to the Phillies in 1980 when I was living there in 2nd grade. It was a sigh from the baseball gods...😉
I was there, under the wrigley field marquee, the moment they finally did it!. It was pure magic and pandemonium and partying all night long. I wasn't going to miss out on a moment like that ever! And you know what? i did it 2 days later at the grant park celebrations with wall to wall cubbies fans as far as the eye can see!

I remember games 5,6,7 every pitch thrown I held my breath. Especially when the Cubs pitchers were on the mound. I felt if I held my breath superstitious took over and the Cubs would hit a hit home run n when pitching the Cubs pitchers would get a groundout strikeout 😂
