      Thanks for the idea! I legit poured silicone into the threads just by removing the focus ring. It spins way too easily but I'm starting to like it that way.

    I have an early 60's KMZ Mir 1. I'm having trouble getting the black ring off so I can access the helicoids for regressing. I've tried wd-40, but that doesn't loosen it.
    Should I throw this in rubbing alcohol to loosen the old grease? Also have lighter fluid to clean the old grease off

    Sorry, I know this is an older video, but does anybody know why the entire focusing unit rotates? I'm having a similar issue Andrew Ryan and Peter Tar were having. If I tighten the retaining ring that has the 4 holes and 2 screws, neither the focus or iris turns. If I loosen it just a bit, everything rotates to the point the rear retaining ring comes off.

    I have one of these lenses and it focuses way past infinity. How do I fix that?

  • @Fedbo

    hello I followed this modification instructions and now the lens focuses to about 55 cm instead of 70cm but I lost infinity focus in the way that it gets past infinity and blurred again even if on the scale of the lens it reads ''infinity'' what could have I done wrong? (i adapt it to a sony a7 camera) also I noticed that you were mentioning a close focus of around 35 cm and I saw some sample images which shows way more bokeh than i seem to get. any advice?

    Great tutorial. I have just bought the same lens, but it has the addition of a cine focusing gear. I wondered if you might know why it won’t focus to infinity? I’m using the black version with an m42 adapter to fuji x rangefinder camera

    • @RetroFotoHouse
      @RetroFotoHouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Often chineese adapters are not tolerating needed distances, it results in infinity not reachable

    • @missgreenbottles
      @missgreenbottles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroFotoHouse yes I thought that might be the issue too. It’s quite a good adapter though and my Helios lens works fine. K&F concept adapters are quite good I’ve had several of them and all work well. They are Chinese I guess though still

      Thought I’d let you know I received my small m39-m42 converter adapter. If anyone wants to try the same thing here is my adapter stack. I know it’s a bit of a crazy modification, but it actually works and my focusing helicoid fixes the close focus problem 😀

    Hi. I have a silver version where in place of the two screws you showed in the beginning are not slotted but conical shaped. Do you know what to do with those? I need to put the stopping screw for the focusing ring back as it came loose and got wedged between the aperture ring and the focusing ring. It happened with the previous owner.

    Hi,
    This is a great video. I have an MIR-1B and I tried to open the first ring like you did using proper lens opening wrench. After removing 2 grub screws from the 4 holes (2 small 2 big) I tried to turn the ring anti-clockwise with a lot of force on my lens wrench but it still wont turn. Is it possible that they have glued it down in the factory?

    • @RetroFotoHouse
      @RetroFotoHouse  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi!
      No, no glue in the factory. Only 2 screws. Normally it has to come, unless somebody but a glue before lens came into your hands, but it is unlikely.

      Retro Foto House hello, I bought a Mir 1B today but unfortunately it doesn't focus on my Samsung nx1000. It focuses to a distance of about 1M only, I am using a m42 -nx adapter. This adapter works fine with my Helios lens on the same camera. Do you think the lens is faulty? Or the adapter needs a micro adjustment? Thank you

    • @RetroFotoHouse
      @RetroFotoHouse  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If helios works with your adapter and mir-doesn't, it means that mir lens was open and reassebled in wrong way

    I followed the guide and everything went perfectly until the last step of the re-assembly. If I put on the ring and tighten it, the aperture and focus rings both stop moving completely. If I leave it looser and screw it in, the same happens. Do you have any idea what might have gone wrong?

    • @RetroFotoHouse
      @RetroFotoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Tar
      Hey, I had what sounds like the same issue your having. What I had to do was back up to where all I had was the locked in helicoil.
      First put on you aperture scale. 16 to 16 markers. Like at 14:29
      The thing I kept messing up was putting the focus ring on from the top you slide it from underneath the very bottom of the lens.
      When I kept trying to get that black ring set from the top I lined the screws and everything it kept sticking the aperture didn’t work at all.
      Try to slide the black ring with the single locking screw from the rearmost part of the focus assembly then find the locking hole then put your finger focus ring with the 3 set screws in set the aperture to 2.8 and the preset aperture to 2.8. Slide the lens block into the focus assembly and make sure your focused to infinity line up the 2.8 to the minimum 0.7 focus distance and tighten down the last locking ring.
