LOL. 🤷♂️ I'm not sure if you've seen my Mental Health video. However, I'm also diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). While I've improved over the years, it still gets me from time to time. But your comment made me chuckle! #rofl 😂
I love the LED lights! This is a great video of how one can adapt a high school classroom to make learning fun and engaging! Just because someone teaches high school doesn't mean it has to be "boring." Thanks for the great share!
I agree. Actually, many former students asked me why I didn't set up my room like this for them because they "would have learned better." Other students that I don't know pop in and give positive feedback. Thanks for watching and the comment!
It is difficult to find examples of flexible seating for lab classrooms and secondary students. Thank you! I like the minimalist approach using cool colors for relaxation. The room is inviting and organized. I definitely will use some of your ideas in my lab room. Thank you for sharing.
Yes! I was worried about the cluttered look that I've seen with some flexible seating environments. The room won't be static and will change based on need.
James, I absolutely love the changes you made to your classroom! It looks so calm and under control. If I were a student I would feel fortunate to be in your room.
James, awesome set up for the classroom. Love watching your videos and following your journey since you have come back to the classroom. Seems like you and I have similar taste for some interior classroom style. I’d like to know where and how you are able to get your plants held from the ceiling! I know I can get hooks at the hardware store, but any tips? Also tips from avoiding the fire Marshall from forcing us to take it down as it is a “fire hazard”?
Thank you. I purchased ceiling hangers from a hardware supply store. They were actually on clearance, and I was able to snag 5 bags for $1.30. The cashier did a double take when she rang me up. As far as your other question: Sorry, I have no advice for that.
Hahaha. Last year I couldn't tell if a student was on their phone or doing work if they were facing the back. Therefore, I got a little creative this year, lol. I still need to put them up though.
I love your classroom! 😀 Very warm and inviting for your students. I have a lowered table in my classroom as well and my students LOVE it! 😀 They always ask me if they can sit at it.
I had students from two years ago stop by and that was exactly what they said to me (very warm, inviting, and home-like). Last year's students asked me why I didn't do this for them. :-/ However, I am glad I finally set it up.
I loved your classroom tour!!!! I have three more semesters of school left then I will be a middle school science teacher. 🙌🏾 Thank you for your inspiration!
I am also a HS Science teacher and would LOVE to try this!! How many students do you have in your classes? Can you give me an idea of what you have the kids doing at each of the different areas of your room? Do they rotate through different stations or is everyone doing the same assignment just in different areas?
I generally have about 30 students. If I'm doing stations, I generally create 2 or 4 copies of that station and scatter them around the room so multiple students have access to the same station. I don't dictate a rotation pattern. I allow them to work at their own pace as long as they are aware of the completion deadline.
I didn't have a desk last year. It was the first thing I got rid of when I moved into this classroom at the end of the 2017 school year. The innovation station (cart with the red document camera) is where I'm usually stationed if I teach.
I never had one, lol (see the previous comment). I make the sub move around to monitor the students to ensure they complete what is expected of them. Of course, if the class size is small, the sub could always grab a student seat. However, the person just can't sit behind a desk the entire time.
Your class looks incredible! I am teaching science for the first time this year and would love to do something similar with my class. Would you be able to link some of the places you bought your materials?
It's been so long that I probably wouldn't remember. The paint was at Lowe's, some of the rainbow cart's were at Michael's, and you may have to clarify the other materials you're referring to.
Hey James, Absolutely love your classroom, so inspiring 😍 I just wanted to ask, what boxes or what exactly you used to make your bloom taxonomy posters stand out. Thank you xx
I believe I used a foam board (I can't remember the name of the material). However, I purchased them from Hobby Lobby and then built small boxes out of them. I'm sure you could cardboard or other material. My room can be humid at times. Therefore, I went for a more rigid material compared to cardboard. I hope this helps!
@@Bondwithjames James you are absolutely amazing, I actually got some foam board today, so I will go ahead with this. You have given me confirmation. God bless you. Your spirit is so wonderful and inspiring... thank you ❤
Great classroom! Where beauty meets utility! Next time you do a video, please move the camera slower so we can transition gradually with you and wee everything you show us better. Good job!!
Hello, David. No, Texas does not require a Masters for secondary. I worked at the district level and then was an administrator prior to returning to the classroom in 2016-2017.
My district has a media center. We receive discounts and the center will mail it to the school once it’s complete. Although, the person was able to print and laminate my posters while I was doing some work there.
To be honest, I really haven't had an issue with management. The only issue is that students tend to go to the same seats even when I tell them they can move around, lol.
James: "I apologize for the mess"
*classroom looking impeccable*

Your classroom is so inviting and decorated nicely! I love your flexible seating choices!
Thank you. I am happy that I was able to use and be creative with a majority of the classroom furniture.
Michelle Gifted Teacher we get assigned to seats we don’t get to pick
very impressive! great taste in decorating! alot of time from the heart!
Thank you, Joanne. :)
You really did a great job ! It is so neat and clear, but also so inviting and cozy! Just loved it ! Thanks for sharing !

Your classroom looks wonderful, James! I really like your flexible seating choices and the blue ambient lighting when the main lights are off.
Thank you, Tim. Yes, the blue lights are one of my favorite parts of the room.
I like the overall look of your classroom. Not cluttered at all and relaxing. I can't wait to see how you'll handle the flexible seating. :)
Yes! I was worried about the cluttered look that I've seen with some flexible seating environments. The room won't be static and will change based on need.
I 💙 it! Blue is my favorite color.
This is inspiring. I'm currently finishing up my degree to be a middle school science teacher. You have done a great job on your classroom.
Thank you for watching and the kind words. Best of luck to you in your journey!
Luv the new lab setup James👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you!
James, I absolutely love the changes you made to your classroom! It looks so calm and under control. If I were a student I would feel fortunate to be in your room.
Thank you, Alison. I'm enjoying it and the students that I have this year have made it easy to handle (so far, lol).
Thank you for doing what you do! I have been using some of your ideas this new school year and my kids seem to appreciate them!
Awesome. Thank you for sharing that. :)

Wow! way to go cuz. Keep up the great work. Very inspiring indeed!
You're welcome.
amazing room. love the mirror idea. my gamer boys might get a shock when one appears in my room

Thank you!
I really love your small group area!
Thank you. I have several ideas for how to use it. I only got to use it twice the first week of school.
Where did you buy your periodic table for the wall?
I love this SOOO much more than last year!!! Just where did you put ur desk?
Good question. Where is the teacher desk? I dunno seems to creative to me, what's a sub to do? Where will they sit?

I swear there was a desk before lmao! Now gotta go hunt in ur videos! I love the idea about the Sub ur so frickin smart sometimes
Awesome job!
Thank you!
Love it! Please tell me more about the blue lights. Where did you buy them how much were they?
All the lights in my classrooms (16-17 through the present) were purchased at IKEA.
you are such a great science teacher #goals #whichIcouldpassthetexeschemistry
Thank you! You can do it! :)

I would also love to see how you made those standing tables!
The shop/construction teacher made them for me. :)

Does Texas require a Masters for secondary? I knew some states did but I guess I just wasn't aware of how many.
Hello, David. No, Texas does not require a Masters for secondary. I worked at the district level and then was an administrator prior to returning to the classroom in 2016-2017.
love love love, I am a 5th year teacher and my classroom is sooo boring. Where did you get the posters you have in the frames?
I purchased the design off Etsy and had the images blown up into posters.
Where did you blow them up? At your school or did you take them somewhere?
My district has a media center. We receive discounts and the center will mail it to the school once it’s complete. Although, the person was able to print and laminate my posters while I was doing some work there.
im a first year chemistry teacher this year and I am so nervous
I hope it's going well so far. It's definitely a weird year and I've had an up/down roller coaster ride.
I was like burner..... ahhh bunsen burner.
Yea, I thought about putting them together but then I would need something for the other side. I didn't have the time or want to create anything.
I wish I have the budget 🤦🏻♀️
how does classroom management work in a space with flexible seating that is so large
To be honest, I really haven't had an issue with management. The only issue is that students tend to go to the same seats even when I tell them they can move around, lol.
