    Just got my winch out of the shed to do a job this week. Been a few years since using it and couldn't work it out. Thank you so much for explaining the mechanism in simple terms and now ready for work.

      @@DIYTechnician It worked, I did not have yellow on the spring, but I found that I can simply push it from the top and this would keep the teeth of the ratchet away.Thanks.

    Great video! I've never used one of these. When I got it home, it came with instructions (including illustrations) on a piece of paper the size of an index card. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. They called the spring you move back and forth a "pawl spring". Anyway, I can work it now like a pro thanks to your video

    Thank you for this helpful and intuitive display of how to work this damn contraption I’ve been trying to figure that darn thing out for two hours in the rain. Well I’m trying to hold in a decent size Dukie. Finally I was able to Waterloo, my fat butt inside. I tried to hold much and I could end, but my britches, or about to jump right off me, if you catch my drift, so rank you I don’t know how long I would’ve been out there trying to figure out that darn thing

    Thanks for this, was searching for a video on how to unspool the cable. I just purchased an (American Power Pull) 4-ton Cable Puller, #18650, and it is a pita to unspool. Although the mechanism to switch gears is fairly easy to understand, pulling the cable out by hand is not easy and I just wanted to know whether it was this hard and it seems that it is. I will keep it because I need it for an emergency, but in the future I will do my best to purchase ones with chains.

    • @DIYTechnician
      @DIYTechnician  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah this hard to pull the cable out. I found securing it to something stationary like a tree or hitch and pulling it out. Thanks for sharing your experience. Take care and happy holidays!

      @@darrenjones9504 I laughed at that too, but if you think it through it’s a valid statement. There are plenty of tools that are tricky to operate even once you have a firm grasp of how they work.
