Just got my winch out of the shed to do a job this week. Been a few years since using it and couldn't work it out. Thank you so much for explaining the mechanism in simple terms and now ready for work.
Glad I found your tutorial. I haven’t used one for a while and I’m trying to get my mini pick up out of the ditch lol. The insight on the use is very helpful
@@DIYTechnician It worked, I did not have yellow on the spring, but I found that I can simply push it from the top and this would keep the teeth of the ratchet away.Thanks.
Great video! I've never used one of these. When I got it home, it came with instructions (including illustrations) on a piece of paper the size of an index card. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. They called the spring you move back and forth a "pawl spring". Anyway, I can work it now like a pro thanks to your video
Thank you for this helpful and intuitive display of how to work this damn contraption I’ve been trying to figure that darn thing out for two hours in the rain. Well I’m trying to hold in a decent size Dukie. Finally I was able to Waterloo, my fat butt inside. I tried to hold much and I could end, but my britches, or about to jump right off me, if you catch my drift, so rank you I don’t know how long I would’ve been out there trying to figure out that darn thing
Great 👌 video perfect I just got a used one and this video explained exactly what I needed to know thanks for taking your time to make this video and correctly!! R!!!
I’ve only used my comealong a couple times and I recently put a lot of tension on it but couldn’t figure out how to release it. I forgot all about the spring mechanism! Thank you for the video!
Thanks for this, was searching for a video on how to unspool the cable. I just purchased an (American Power Pull) 4-ton Cable Puller, #18650, and it is a pita to unspool. Although the mechanism to switch gears is fairly easy to understand, pulling the cable out by hand is not easy and I just wanted to know whether it was this hard and it seems that it is. I will keep it because I need it for an emergency, but in the future I will do my best to purchase ones with chains.
Yeah this hard to pull the cable out. I found securing it to something stationary like a tree or hitch and pulling it out. Thanks for sharing your experience. Take care and happy holidays!
@@darrenjones9504 I laughed at that too, but if you think it through it’s a valid statement. There are plenty of tools that are tricky to operate even once you have a firm grasp of how they work.
So happy to hear this helped you. Cable pullers have pinched me many times in the past so figured I’d show how to operate this one. Take care and best of luck to you. :)
Thanks havent used mine for years and couldn' t remember how to until I looked at your useful tutorial.
Great to hear!
@@michaelbotchin4122 same. I had mine stored. Thank you for the tips. Appreciated
Thank you for the excellent demonstration. Now I know how this operates.
Glad to help

I purchased similar cable puller and was stuck with it. Thanks to your clear video and instructions I was then able to set it up and use it!

Great video. Thanks!
Thanks.
Great Vid!
Can you use this as a winch to self rescue a stuck car ?
Well I think in some instances you could but I wouldn’t put my life on it. I have seen them used as an assist before but not to carry the full load.
So I looked this up years ago - “Koch” is pronounced “Coke” as far as i know. Which sounds pretty reasonably to me 👌🏼😂 Great video of a cool tool 😎🙌🏼
Oh cool. I seem to remember that. Thanks buddy!
@@DIYTechnician Yeah lot of folks mis-pronounce it & understandably so. Have a good one!
AWSOME ALOHA FROM HAWAII 😎
Great explanation. so what do you do after you're done pulling something and there's still tension on it? The search continues
I’ll have to see

So there's no way to slowly release the tension on this model? I'm trying to figure out how on mine.
There may be a technique to do it that I don’t know about but as far as I can tell there is no way back it down slowly.
@@DIYTechnician Thanks for answer. I had a same question. Slow release under a heavy load.
Not the Nike sandals n socks lol
Haha didnt mean to catch that
Just saved my ass good shit
lol glad to hear it! Thanks for the feedback. Happy holidays
Do it under tension
Thanks for your input here.
