It helps me realize that I’m not the only one that seems to have things go haywire on a project. And, if I have to rake the roof of of my tractor, I’ve got a good idea of what to expect. Thanks. Blessings.

    That a/c flowing behind the radio will keep the radio cool in the summer time. My truck is the same way. Air flows through the 2 center ac vents with the head unit in the center. I guess when you have the heat on, most people have it on defrost so it’s not a big deal with heat. My head unit has a built in fan because of the bigger screen, but still gets pretty warm. Your speakers were definitely an upgrade!

    You know with my job I am focused on economics of rebuilding machines. Cab is always an area of concern and expense. The thing about a cab is, if the operator (in this case the owner as well) feels they are in a new machine then they will perceive the machines is better. They tend to be happier operating and complain less. I think your cab restoration will for sure improve your operating experience. Nice work,

    I like your videos. This radio replacement reminded me of a project that I have planned when the weather gets warmer for my Kubota L4060 with a cab. In the past I got in the cab when it was dark and had difficulty finding switches, etc. I would have liked a light that would come on when the door is opened. My solution (yet to be executed) was to buy two small, lighted switches. I plan to mount one at each door and for them to be assessable from the ground. They will be attached with double sided tape to the front of the door frame, but positioned so that they will not be hit getting in and out of the cab. I will then leave the ceiling light "on" permanently. The lights on the switches will indicate which switch (or both switches) is keeping the light on. I wiil need to remove the roof and/or headliner to do the wiring.

    I can't say I like those solder connections very much. The part the ensures a solid bond is heating the wire & letting the solder flow to the heat, creating a solid core bond. That looks more like it's superficial on the exterior of the wire. I'd be surprised if it lasts outdoors, it would have a cold solder joint + air pocket that would crack/break. Also no way to clean the solder joint from the flux which is most likely used. Anywho, just my 2 cents from a CET / Electrical Engineer.
    And if you want a strong joint, you should j-hook the two wires together, instead of feathering them. But if it works for a long time, that's cool too, i'm just a little bit worried is all.

    Our 5m antenna broke. I bought the new one from Deere and replaced it. The new antenna was a little longer and thinner, so I positioned the top of it towards the back of the cab so that it wasn't sticking straight up (Hopefully giving me the chance to free a small tree limb if it drive into one.) I hope your spring antenna is a good solution because I'm always worried about breaking our antenna off our 3046r. I hope there is a spring antenna I can get to replace the current plastic one before I break it. (Also, why is the antenna made out of some kind of delicate pewter metal? THANK YOU for recording this video. I've had all the same concerns with our 3046r that you've addressed in this video (radio, antenna, speakers, taking the headliner out, taking the roof off. I wish there was heat reflecting material installed in the roof to keep the sun heat out of the AC system. Our cab AC in Texas just can't keep up. I also wish they would redesign the AC filter system to keep dust out better. We ALWAYS have dust/dirt when using our rotary cutter that gets around the filter and into the evaporator core and I can see where it will eventually clog up the EC and be a pain to clean out.

  • @bwlyon
    @bwlyon ปีที่แล้ว

    Tim, I’d make a metal bracket to help support the back of the radio. The reason is all that will be supporting the radio is the plastic housing it sits in. As plastic ages it becomes brittle, hence the need for the rear supporting bracket. Love the content!

    Hi Tim,
    Great video showing the fun of removing and modifying the cab interior headliner and radio.
    I was really surprised how the replacement antenna broke so easily. Very poor design.
    We you careful to have the polarity consistent on both speakers? Having one backwards will make them 180° out of phase. It won't hurt them, however the low frequencies will cancel out making it sound like there is no bass sound.

    I recently did the same bluetooth radio upgrade with my Side by Side and used same radio. It works really well. I will say I never use the AM/FM as I run everything thru my phone.
    The AM/FM works fine for me and I just laid the antenna inside the roof console, so it’s underneath the roof and not exposed to anything. I’m sure range may be reduced but being I can get radio stations thru phone if I want so really is a non issue.
    One tip…..clip those zip ties otherwise you will have to remove roof to access wire connections should ya need to pull radio again. With the slack you can just release the clips on the radio slide mount and pull it out…that’s what the two slim metal tabs are that likely came with radio.
    Headliner turned out nice….what did y’all use to clean it with?

    When I was in high school, my friend and I was putting in a new rad in my 91 Subaru. The wiring harness we order was not the right one, plus the cars wiring was so odd, we had to get schematic of the wiring from the dealer. The dealer said my car was 100% built in Japan, and that's why nothing was matching up. After we got the diagram, we had it done in 10 minutes. This was back in 2002 when there wasn't much of internet resources available as there are today.
