I'm not denying magical or divine intervention with Zeppelin, but also, even at this young age, they have had years of intense experience (especially Page and Jones), and also they have all been serious students of the blues and rock & roll for years before. That's why each lick, beat, and note comes with musical and historical authority.

I remember a quote from Jimmy Page, when discussing each of their musical abilities, saying something along the line that they were all very good before Led Zeppelin but afterwards they all soared to the top of the rock mountain. I guess that makes sense, I mean, what band wouldn’t want to have John Bonham as their drummer or Jimmy Page as they are guitarist or John Paul Jones as their bassist/keyboardist or Robert Plant as their lead singer. And together, wow! 🤯

This is an excellent example of how these guys could take an old blues song, and then "get the Led out" and restyle it as their own. Their abandon when they were young was unmatched. All 4 members were not afraid to "take off the reigns" and rules, and just go for it. Keep in mind, Led Zeppelin was not immune to the drugs scene which gave an alternate view of the world, allowing them to "twist" the music to their own imaginings, and luckily, it made a lot of sense to a lot of people. 10 years later, you can hear the difference in their tiredness, and complacency. This is when that first fire was still raging in the band.

They weren't a band, they were magic! When listening to this album, it's hard to believe that it was their first. We pretty much all reacted the way that you are when we first heard it. Def check out the studio version tho. Both are incredible! Jimmy Page once said that he doesn't play music, he plays feelings. I've said this before, Page was the strike of lightning, Bonham the thunder, John Paul Jones the rhythmic sounds of the rain, and Plant the wind howling and sighing thru the trees. Together they created the perfect storm

Well…Plant was 21 here….January of 1970…. It was Jimmy’s birthday …I think the 9th…..Jimmy just turned 26, and that vest he’s wearing was knitted by his mom! What a good son, wearing it for a concert. 😁. You can see that Robert has not yet developed his full-on “rock god” stage persona…that would come over the next year or two.
Yes….Robert’s voice from 1968 to 1972 or so was otherworldly …….he damaged it along the way, what with singing three hour concerts several times a week For looooong tours…. But even after his voice was no longer like this, he still was one of the top frontmen in rock history.
Keep in mind that Jimmy, who formed the band, was more than 4 years older than Robert, much more experienced….

This really is one of Led Zeppelin's best live concerts. It took place on Jimmy Page's 26th birthday. The other band members are younger. The band had already done US tours and played in large venues. In their home country of England, this was their first really big concert. Robert Plant's voice was fantastic here. I recommend this show if you want to react to live performances. "Weere gonna groove", "Dazed and Confused" and "Moby Dick" but also the then brand new "Whole lotta Love" are great. Robert plays the harmonica on "Bring it on Home". They also played old rock'n'roll classics like "C'mon Everybody" and "Something Else" wonderfully here. Compliments, you have good musical taste and you are two nice people.

This is what you get when you put together four musicians who are masters of their craft and then add a bit of magic dust. Love when Plant & Page do that call and response thing. Zeppelin blew my crowd and me away when they came on the music scene, their sound was out of this world. I still vacillate between Zeppelin & Pink Floyd as my all time favorite bands. Tool is up there with LZ & PF to round out my top three. Love your reaction, you are right on.

I would always recommend listening to the studio versions, first, for one reason.
All their live versions are interations on the originals. And those iterations, from one night to the next, could be very different. Jimmy Page once referred to these changes as "mutations". So the songs were continually being re-invented. But the originals served as the essential super structure, upon which new layers were continually added. That's one of the reasons why the band could not continue after John Bonham's death--they could never find another drummer who knew the evolution of the songs, over time.
Studio versions are the DNA. Live versions are the evolution of that DNA, discovered. I love them both. But I gain a greater appreciation for the live versions knowing how they were originally composed.
    Just my humble opionion.

Regarding which versions to listen to first, studio or live, I think the best of both worlds is to listen both. Babe I'm Gonna Leave you only saw the live version and I think you should also listen to the original version, especially because of Plant's voice which sounds much more powerful. I personally think the original studio versions are better overall, but there are also wonderful live performances.

You guys are so great! Thanks for doing my pick, I’m so happy that you love this one! Andre wants to dance and I see Dominica touching the buttons of her shirt, it might be time you unbutton the top one when listening to Zeppelin lol! (Reference to one of your early videos😊)… so they were influenced by many different styles but in the beginning blues was a big part of their foundation. And this 1970 tour was the last time they actually played this song. As you know, they went on a creative journey that makes up everything that is Led Zeppelin but yes, the early hard hitting blues is a personal favorite! As far as studio versus Live, there are some songs like this one that I think are fine to hear first. But honestly, there are so many of their songs that to me just need to be heard in the studio first that’s where the song was born and so much effort put into the creation of it… Love your reactions and thanks again more to come! ❤

I watched a documentary back in the early 90s and the interviewer asked Plant how many women he slept with, he said not enough.

Well, it just so happens (IMO) this is one of those Zep songs where it really doesn’t matter too much if you do the live version first. Not much context is needed from the studio version to really digest this one. Since Ive Been Loving You is another, but I think you two have already done that one.

You have to listen to free another blues rock uk band, lots good tunes, my brother jake, laying in the sunshine, wishing well, get where i belong, just a few. Alsoo young at time. Bass player andy fraser 15, paul rodgers (bad company) the amazing paul kossoff and simon kirke. Live footage of them at isle of Wight 1970 where hendrix played just before his death.

I love your reactions specially to Led Zeppelin. I have a suggestion I am sure you will like, the title on TH-cam is: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - When The Levee Breaks (Glastonbury 2022)
