Love that old school Red Dragon. Was always one of my favorite corals in our reef. The beauty of the coral never changed but the price has. Thank goodness.
Corals can be out of water a lot longer then most people think. On more than one occasion I have had corals out of water for about 10hrs. In Canada we don't have the liquid exemption for living things as carry on so I've brought frags back on a plane wrapped in paper towels without water. Dump the water before going through security wrap in paper towel and then when get home put them in frag tank. The first time I did this I did it in the family washroom as I was too embarrassed to wrapping corals in a public washroom. The next time did it in the hotel before going to airport. If I was buying a ton of stuff I'd pay and have it checked but for a few frags this is more economical plus it put them to the test as to how they would do. I wouldn't do this with anything really fleshy or super expensive but besides acros, cyphastrea and any type of encruster and zoanthids ect did well.
What's with the shelf above your fragging station? Looks like all the aquarium toys that time forgot. That said, good work with chopping that monster down, I do have to say I was cringing with the dental pick action, not from your technique but I recently had a cleaning and a lot of similar sounds were being made 🤣🤣
Yeah I can definitely get that it smells like corn. But to me it's more like a "cow chewing on grass and then burps" smell! Guess I spent to much time in the countryside when I was younger 🤪😅
There is a Phyllodesmium nudibranch that specifically eats Xenias. I wonder if they would be able to establish a balance between fast growing Xenia and the rest of the tank? In general such predator-prey balances is something that interests me in tanks- if they can be maintained
Jake you are a bucket list person to meet just an amazing knowledgeable genuine person that for the last 3 to 5 years I wanted to meet one day I hope to be in a place in my life were I can consider you a friend keep , up the great work you teach me so much with the short segment of videos thank you sincerely thank you for being so awesome and taking the time to do this for us the reefing community!!!
love to watch videos like this! Make a video every single time you decide to play with your daddy's tools, man! Sweet corn smell!!!!!! Soooo good! Gotta love Acros! Cheers!
I don't think they eat established Valonia per se but their constant grazing of all the rocks certainly helps to keep it from establishing itself in the first place.

In the US I’ve heard the TSA allows bringing coral and fish in water.
Dang wish you were still here to teach us all you knew and were learning !! 😢
Jake repeatedly sniffing that coral is kinky....lol
Tanks are looking good
Nice vid Jake love the red dragon 👍
Wowza! Great content!
At which level do you like to keep NO3 and PO4?
not zero but detectable so like 0.05ppm PO4 and 2-5ppm NO3

That’s exactly what the shelf is for!
Great video Jake! What would one of those mini colonies sell for in an lfs?
I think nice large frags/ mini colonies could sell from between $60 to $100 depending on local availability.
Do you sell frags of that Red Dragon Acro ??!!!
Porqué no hay de esas acroporas en México!! 😱😱
Really nice sps...

Hello, what parameters do You have in that tank and what do You add to it? That red dragon is so amazing
Just basic natural seawater chemistry with bright mostly daylight spectrum to help bring out the warm pink color.
@@ReefBuildersVideo you add balling or You have reactor?
@@96Mayfly kalk reactor and dosing
I’ll take a frag of that red dragon any day of the week 😂😂
Have you ever sold any frags of your famous weeping willow?
Seems like less than 1% of tanks ever have colonies approaching the size you might see in the wild.
You kill the Xenia and I actively search for it and pay $50 for a frag 🤣
Jake imitated his hairdresser, took way more off than planned.
When Jake was scraping the rock with the dental pick I could feel it in my teeth 😫
Hahahaa

I can always tell when the acros are healthy by that sweet smell in the tank. Awesome video as usual Jake !!

I am very curious if the elli grew back.....
Amazing, how many times per month do water change and percentage?

Corn scented acros! AFFIRMATION BABY!!! Thanks Jake👍👍👍
Very impressive red dragon colony 🤩 Mine is also a super fast grower in my tank and I can’t wait to see it as tall as yours! 👏
I remember when this piece came out, it's still one of my all time favorite corals.
Thats a B&W darkroom tray. Great videos! Thanks
My favourite Acro!
I’ve done live to live glueing many times before, to fix accident frags or reshape the colony. Works extremely well and heals fast.
That’s like a 6 month size colony of Red Dragon. And then it melts because red dragon be like that.
Я из России , очень красиво .обожаю ваши видео .У меня тоже морской аквариум только меньше...
Dang man what happened to the hair? Looks good short but it caught me off guard. I have not noticed it yet on RT
Wow you really went to town on that Red Dragon lol Thanks for sharing
Pruned within an inch of its life! great video Jake 👌
A nice problem to have.....the RD grows like a weed for me as well. Hack away Jake!
I love this channel!! You’re the best Jake!
Very satisfying video to watch!
I love the smell of acropora in the morning.
Man that intro music was nice 👍🏻
Freaking amazing
That green Acropora Like Green Dragon .. What its called ??I Heard like Acropora eksi ai 😅 ???
Acropora elseyi
What do you do with the rest of the corals you just trimmed? Will u be donating or sells them?
will probably be spreading most of them around to reefing friends
should really be using a misting bottle for moisture control
spray bottle will certainly keep the coral wet but it doesn't wash away the mucus that corals exude when they are out of water
Don’t think any of the tangs in the tank eat valonia do they?
I don't think they eat established Valonia per se but their constant grazing of all the rocks certainly helps to keep it from establishing itself in the first place.
Ar they hard coral?
correct
Love the Red Dragon Jake! How can I get my hands on a frag? Do you guys sell frags of this? Thanks!
We don't sell any corals but Red Dragon is a very common strain in the hobby that you should be able to source in many countries and regions.
@@ReefBuildersVideo The one you have has amazing color. Do you know if Red Dragon species differ?
@@shawnriv9 Red Dragon is a strain of Acropora carduus which exists in dozens upon dozens of different colors
What is the item you use to clean the glass
Just a dobie pad
@@ReefBuildersVideo ahh okay … I thought it was a special pad for tank … thanks 🙏
