I remember as a kid in the fifties, seeing a circus parade that included elephants walking in line. So you are probably right. Billy Smarts or Chipperfields, most probably.

Hi nickladey. Thank you for uploading these. It's made it much easier for me now to realise what the surroundings looked like back then. I've been reading Valerie Wood's books 'The Hungry Tide' and 'Annie'. Just waiting for her other book 'Children of the Tide' to arrive. I'm in Australia, so, it was hard picturing what I was reading about. Where did you get these pictures please? Could they be viewed in any books at all? It would be nice to know when and where each pic was taken. Thanks.
