Senna was a gent and gave me a little wink that day and i then met him at the 1993 tyre test at the back of the paddock and again he was a gentleman. I was with Martin and Luke Hines at the time and Senna shook our hands and asked about our kart racing, he was really interested. F1 will never be the same again.
Doesn't surprise me about Senna being interested in your kart racing. I remember when the Aussie GP was in Adelaide (my home), if he wasn't in a de-brief somewhere he could usually be seen on the Lotus or later McLaren pit wall when the Superkart support races were on. I saw him there a few times (I was in the grandstand, not lucky enough to be in the pits).
@@abritandhisbikeinpoland6802 I was also there for the race. I remember my brother cutting holes and then putting on a bin bag to keep dry. Great memories 👍
@@stevesmyth1769 Yep, i have many vivid memories of that weekend more than most! I was at every British GP plus Donnington from 1984 until 2011, then I moved to Poland. Silverstone was my holy grail, but now I have no intentions of returning, its an unrecognisable concrete mess with no character, sad!
@@abritandhisbikeinpoland6802 Totally agree with you about Silverstone. My first race was the European GP at Brands Hatch in 85. My last was 92. For me 1987 was my fave. The place was buzzing after our Nige came out of the pits. A truly incredible experience.
Blown away by this, it's so atmospheric and nostalgic. Brings back so many great memories of attending races with my dad during the same era. That Senna model aeroplane footage is just amazing.
I used to go to the tyre testing in the early 90s. They always fell just a few weeks before the British GP and were a fantastic prelude to the big race. That said.....for freedom of the track, close ups and pit lane entry the tyre tests were the best thing of all. These early days really stirred me and before long I was travelling all over Europe for the first half of the 90's. I couldn't have picked a better time period :) A great video and very nostalgic to watch. You're absolutely right, we'll never see days like this again :(
What a fascinating personal document of a much purer time in Formula One. You and i are probably around the same age and kudos to your dad for taking you and the footage!
Wow, in a world with no gopros or smart phones, i never even considered looking for this on film! I was there, i remember it so well 32 years later!! Yes senna was flying his rc plane that day!! I was at the GP a little while after,soaking wet cold day, but Senna won!
Brilliant footage, unique and all the greats on camera. The 80s was the best era by a mile the cars were all radically different with designers having the freedom to be different within the broader regulations.

I believe I saw Ayrton race in F3 at Oulton but don’t remember it unfortunately. My first experience of F1 was 1998 Silverstone qualifying and was much much different!
Senna and the plane. So eccentric its great. We went to most of the races around then, my aunt got tickets for us through Marlboro as she worked at duty free. Good times.
"Another cloudy day at the office". Great spirit. A time where apparently you could be so close to the stars, quite accessible. A great family of passion. Please share more if you have! :)
Also funny to see Nelson jumping aboard an MG Montego- better proposition than a Lotus 100T😂! The Lotus sounds great though- harder edge to the Honda than in the McLaren👍🏻

What a video, I came across your channel by chance watching Driver 61 video regarding on Adrian Newey, and I saw some footage of yours that he used. I was only 1 years old when this video was made and I'm super jealous that you was able to be that close to Senna, Piquet, Prost the lot! I love how Senna was messing around with his RC aeroplane, while others were on deep thoughts on their jobs😂, If this happened in todays world there would be so much security press you name it, but back then despite being a tyre test it so cool to see how everything was so much simpler. I wish F1 was still like this today it's a far cry compared back then. Great video very wholesome with your Dad, wish my Dad had the time to take me but he was always working and never really had the time. What a gem of a video awesome! 👍
I’d forgotten that Ferrari were the only other serious team besides McLaren to run the turbo engines that year. They sounded great with a great turbo whistle but dramatically underperformed that season.

I was there also this day, never forget seeing Senna flying his remote controllled aeroplane! We were at the GP also, soaked and freezing! Great day.
