  • I decided that it was time to take the leap! I've always used spinning or baitcasting setups and I wanted to upgrade my arsenal within a whole new world of fishing - fly fishing! With our new fly fishing rod, can we land some stocked trout at my local creek? Or anything? I did not expect this to happen..
Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for the support! At the time of this upload we just passed 343,100! I'm having so much fun making these videos, lets keep this rolling!

buy yourself a good rod/reel and get new line for it, It will make a world of a difference, Line is probably the most important. Stock line that comes with those beginner setups is usually really bad quality line and will be hard to cast.

Cool video, it is nice to see someone this excited :) I would like to mention few things for you as a new fly fisher (please take note I'm from Europe, so some things might be totally different):
    1. Strike indicator in fly fishing is something like using cheats in a game - it works but you are loosing part of the joy, google (Czech nymphing/ Euro nymphing). Also there are some variations in wet flies - Streamers, wet flies, nymphs you can read about it to know what is different.
    2. Stocking wild rivers is actually bad, it messes with gene pool of local fish and makes it even harder for native species to survive (including find food). So on point - you should be prioritized to search for that one local trout, in untouched creek :) that's the beauty of this type of fishing, it is not standing shoulder-to-shoulder with bunch of dudes on a tiny creek :)
    3. Why do US fisherman always wants to stick finger in fish mouth ? Whats the point ? Actually proper release technique is to have the fish always in a water (use net for that) get your hands wet (and get them colder). Trouts are extremely sensitive to temperature, warm hands can kill them in seconds.
If you would ever need an advice on fly-fishing - write me pm, I would happily share everything I know.

Love the fly fishing videos! I'm watching you to determine if I wanna try taking it up and well, I bought a old bamboo fly rod off eBay for 40 bucks! Lol, it has no markings on it so I'm gonna take a local shop to see if they can determine the line weight needed so I can get the appropriate setup for it. They also offer a 4 hour class for fifty bucks i plan on taking too... My only objective is I want a basic setup so I don't have to determine different line and tippet sizes based off hook sizes it think, idk. I just want to get a universal setup for faster fly changes. I recommend checking out mad river outdoor's channel, they have a great fly fishing introduction series I've been watching. Keep up the great content man!

If you're fishing stockes rainbows/goldens tie up some bright stuff. Egg patterns, mop flies, squirmie wormies. Pink, chartreuse, orange are all good. I caught about 30 today on a nuke egg and a lazer dub jig over in Pa. Strike indicators have their time and place, slower/deeper water.... you will figure it out. Good luck

Yeah dude, just bring that flyrod with you whenever you go freshwater fishing. Have it as another option, and something else to try if your're not having good results with bigger lures. A good way to get used to fly fishing is catching loads of sunfish and whatever else with it. For me it's become second nature, just another option in my fishing arsenal. I think you should try tying your own flies. You can get a cheap fly tying vice, or even make your own. Pick up some small cheap hooks from walmart, order some fly tying threads, marabou, beads, other materials, or get them from cabelas. There are fly tying kits you can get. Also get you some closed cell foam sheet from walmart, Michaels or whatever else craft stores. At walmart they have these packs of foam sheet doorknob signs, that are nice and a bit thicc. I take a 1/4" hole punch and cut out a bunch of round pieces, super glue them together, and use them as popper bodies, that work great.
