You have accomplished so much with your photos, be proud!!! Prioritize the photo albums and do the worst quality albums first. One trick I used on the old albums that had sticky pages, was to run dental floss behind the picture to release it from the sticky page. Trying to pull them off was ruining the photos, but using the floss worked and was pretty easy. I still need to do a lot of work on my photos too! We have to focus on making progress!!!

Karen, I am proud of you because you are really making progress in this area. Just look back to your previous videos to see how much more separated the photos are now. I remember when you had several shelves full in the back section of your basement and a couple of cardboard boxes full on the floor too. I am sure your children will be so grateful to you for putting in all this hard work on their behalf to preserve their memories for them. I think you are right in your idea to remove all the photos from the very old and discoloured photo albums to divide them up as well. Your children can always put them into newer albums if they want to later or convert them to digital.

oh my, perfect timing... I did this task about 2 months ago, about 40+ years of photos... It was a task, but I broke it down to 1 box at a time each weekend. I put out 4 boxes... one to keep for me & my 3, and one for my mother and my two sisters. I took it bag by bag, box by box, envelope by envelope... I only sorted for us and my sisters and mom... all the rest, were put into the shred pile... and yes, it was brutal to shred photos of old days, friends and random events and trips... but I already have 23 scrapbooks of just my 3 kids... and I stopped doing that long ago when i realized I would never have enough room to keep going and worse, my kids don't want to get stuck with all of that... once I went through all the photosl, I shredded the leftovers and the ones I kept, I have them ready to upload them to a digital photo frame... lucky some time ago, I had the forethought to start having them put on disc when I had them printed... so that will make it easier. Those I saved and put them on usbs for my kids, if they want them... It's a digital world and I don't think the generations to come will want to deal with boxes and boxes of photos... besides they can always print them off a USB if they want a hard copy... Also, there is a service I used to transfer my old VHS to disc and USB of my kids ultrasounds and early life... that is a fantastic option for those and photos too. Good job, and I really like seeing the photo process. thanks.

Great job, Karen! Emotional jobs are the hardest for me, too. Going through old photos seems to be a current theme with several folks I follow on TH-cam - did you see the latest podcast from Dawn of The Minimal Mom? She had an expert on sorting and decluttering old photos, and had resources and recommendations, as well as a "done for you" service offering that sounds wildly appealing (though likely cost prohibitive). And Shannon Torrens' mom has been going through decades of photos and albums over the past year. Shannon had a recent video with her mom with key takeaways of the process. I hope it's ok to share about other TH-camrs on your channel - I thought you and/or other Mainer Mom friends might be interested.

I can say one thing, your grandkids are going to love looking at those photos of you, Robyn and their parents. I wish someone would have taken a photo of my paternal grandmother before she died.

Great progress! The family history photos are worth scanning. That way, anyone in the family can have digital copies. Also, immediate family group photos are good to scan so everyone can have a digital copy as well.

Photo sorting is such a tedious task! Good for you, getting so much done! ❤🎉 I’m in the process of doing this as well. It’s definitely one of those projects that is best suited for small increments of work time. Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed day! 💕🌸

since elderly/ My children have had their pictures for a very long time. I have one annotated album. They manage their own electronic images. I just keep a few online , and the historic ones in an acid free box. My papers are minimal as well, to avoid any confusion. I just keep reducing inventory every day and will prob have a dealer come in this spring. I still have some vintage items to let go of. glad to see you, it is Palm Sunday and we are having our Easter dinner this night.

Hellooo Karen, oh my, sorting through photos is very tough,I think you did great. I had to do mine in 1 hour chunks, even then I struggled over some. I also realised we must have left a box of old family photos on the loft at our old house, it’s been over 30 years! It wasn’t until I gathered all the photographs together and went through them that I found out. Upsetting to say the least as they were of my mother and father in their younger days and early marriage. Gone now so I need to find peace from it, nothing I can do about it. 😢
I don’t think decluttering ever actually ends, we constantly change don’t we, I also feel the less I have to shift from one area to another the freer I feel.
As always my friend, much love and light to you.🥰🥰🥰

Great video! I think I have commented on some of your similar photo decluttering videos. I have been slowly going through mine and my parents pictures and even my Dad's parents pictures. So far I got everything organized kind of by a combination of family and person. I am hoping to do a scrapbook album for me, one for my Dad and redo the one that my grandmother had made for my Mom because I found some more stuff to add to it. I have tons of really older photos from the late 1800's to the 1960's of different family members. I will probably scrapbook some of them using photo corners. I don't mind looking through photo albums, I just don't want 30+ photo albums and boxes of pictures everywhere. I still have to help my Mom declutter some of her wedding pictures. There are about 5 duplicate sets of her wedding and rehearsal dinner.

Great video, and thanks for sharing the phrase “today is not the day”. I know it seems small, but I always push myself to keep going when I don’t have to and I’m tired. Now I don’t feel bad for waiting till I have more energy and time. You never know sometimes what’s going to help someone. Thank you!

Taking photos out of the magnetic page photo albums, be very careful as they sometimes don’t release, and I have actually ripped a photo. (Luckily not badly ripped). Of course my son is 50 now, so they were in longer than yours. Good luck with that though. I’m interested in photo decluttering, so thanks!

I spent several years sorting photos and scrapbooking the good ones into photosafe and acid free albums, decorated, and wrote the stories. Then, a few years ago, I decided if I scrapbooked an equivalent of a page a day, I would have 365 pages done in a year! I did do that, tho, not sure if it took that many pages. I still have a photo box with some duplicates I didn't want to toss and some I don't know what to do with and an envelope of boat racing ones that my son wanted to keep...Photos are a huge job, and I feel for you! I have been wondering what the stacks of the notebooks and albums are and now, I know! I hope we get to see you go through them...Keep in mind they are probably not acid free and should be disposed of....Can't wait! ❤❤❤

I was so happy to see this. I have been trying to do this for a long time. I get started and quit. I think I look at some pictures and get depressed, either because this or that loved one is gone or I wish I still looked like that. lol I have three children and have had the deli a of how to split the pictures or where to get copies. Thank you so much. I’ll go at it again.
