WoW...Jamaica imports so much of it's food..that plays a part to increase the price at the registers..I can't believe Jamaica's tax is so high 15 percent!
Great video Rochelle. Very informative. After i watched it, I did a price check on the same size items in one supermarket in NY. Using the lowest prices (no sale items, but some store brands) the total came to about $20. Buying all the items in the big brand names would push the price to about $25. Many thing have gotten very expensive. For a few years now many food items have gotten smaller, with the prices staying the same or priced higher.
Yes they existed in Trinidad and Tobago when oil was king and foreigners employed etc, were living here so they had a pricey standard compared to our Chinee shop on every corner or groceries which apart from being cramped offered consumers better deals like buy 1 get the other half price etc.

Rochelle, this is a very good 👍 blog. People, the prices in Jamaica for food stuff is much, much more cheaper than it is in Bermuda 🇧🇲 Bermuda supermarket prices have gone up about three times since the pandemic and a lot of people have lost their jobs so it is dread.
I’m in Canada an it’s also expensive to a point where I think barrel is not making any sense to ship again some thing you pick in the supper market I think it was more expensive you or doing a great job keep it up i always like your channel.
Hi Rochie , I was browsing and I came across your channel and it is indeed a fact that prices are going up. I am grateful that you listed the prices especially for those of us living in the U.S for us to see and compare and also come to terms with what Jamaicans have to face each day. What I do know is that some of the prices are about the same for me that reside in New York. Corned Beef does go up sometimes to over or nearly $6.00 usd so I avoid it if it isn’t necessary.
It would be interesting if you were to add Progressive Grocers to that list of super markets for a new video. Also some basic items such as rice, flour etc are non taxed as the impact on lower income households would be high.
This was really an eye opener especially when you factor in all the other things at the end but still some of us that can, should be able to grow a few fruits and veges in our yard . Just FYI you have such a beautiful smile and a heart of giving. keep up the good works.
I was telling my neighbor here in New York over the weekend that when you bring $150 to the supermarket this weekend please don't think of bringing the same next weekend because everyday every week the prices goes up
When I come back to Jamaica I will be getting my hands in some good soil and do some farming cause I live to cook .What I am more worried about is the bills in Jamaica . Internet , water , light etc . Is much hire there compare to where I live in Seattle . Thanks Richeline for those great videos .🙏🏽❤️
@Dezreen I don't blame you. Jamaica is beautiful. Nearly every tropical product can be grown there, especially near rivers and waterfalls as it keeps the soil watered. Grow your watermelons, corn, yams yellow and white; pineapples, coconuts etc. You can grow your onions, red kidney beans, green peas, string beans, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, garlic, potatoes and sweet potatoes. All your herbs for cooking. You can even grow your rice in tubs TH-cam has channels showing how to grow brown and white rice. Even clusters of grapes, strawberries, plums etc If all the neigbours get together they can, as a collective, do this including growing tomatoes from seed, cucumbers, mangoes and avocados or (pears) including your Ackee and plaintain. All you will need is your flour, meat and fish.
@Dezreen Have you thought of purchasing solar security lights for outdoors and solar lights for indoors? Have a look at websites and reviews. Also JML I think they advertise in hardwear stores in the UK.

For those living in the US, there is a supermarket known as ALDI. Especially in NY, it is becoming very famous because of its prices. For example, a loaf of wheat bread that would cost $2.00 to $3.00 cost only $0.79 (same brand.) A 32 ounce of apple juice that would normally cost at least $2.50 is $0.89 at ALDI.
@Wayne Jackson - I live in Chapel Hill, NC. ALDI's pretty new to NC - about 2 years or a little under. I haven't been there yet. Wal-Mart's more my go to store for low prices. Costco for bulk items.

Why didn’t you acknowledge that instead of criticizing her? Most people would love to eat healthy but cannot afford organic, healthier, pricier foods. People who live in the city do not have the luxury of walking into their backyard, picking a coconut and making oil from it. Hope you never find yourself in the same situation as the less fortunate.
Very good video. I thought mega Mart would have been way cheaper. Also the price on the shelf should be accurate. In Canada. In Canada if the price on the shelf is inaccurate that item is free.
