I have 2 magnavox VCR recorders, one turns off on me on it's own. I can start it up and then after 10 seconds it will turn off. I had it in storage and took it out and it seemed to work just fine, then all of a sudden it started to do it's thing again. The other one did work, but now just the DVD side works and the VCR will start and it will do it's thing for about 5 seconds then shut the machine off. I took the cover off and blew all the dust out and cleaned everything like the video said. Any suggestions? Trying to record family movies to DVR then get rid of all this stuff. Thanks Vern
With respect to this same model (Toshiba), what do you do about VCR operations that squeak on playback, rewind and fast-forward but the picture and sound are without any problem? The squeak doesn't go through the audio channel and it persists no matter the tape, suggesting that it is a mechanical noise (it's a loud but high-pitched noise). I'm assuming that some part is in need of a lube to stop the squeaking, but not sure where it is safe to place that lube or what kind?
Well my dvd player was working fine till I decided to clean it and bought a cleaning disc from best buy, after that it would not play anything ,it does not reconize any discs and shows an error on the front ? So now what,.?....
I, too, killed a Toshiba DVD recorder (older model) using a disc cleaner. If you read the user manual on these units they actually state that you should NOT make use of DVD cleaning discs. I have come across many comments to the effect that a little rubbing alcohol will clean the lens and the spindle but in my experience I have never revived a DVD recorder that could no longer read a disc using this method, either. If you're consistently getting "no read" or "dirty disc" errors it suggests the laser pickup is dying, and the only solution for that is to replace the part.
Awesome video. i am about to sell DVD players and vhs players. awesome, I payed $15, might earn $250 per sale. some girl was going to help me, however if I can figure it out then you just made my day. samsung DVD model hd841/xaa player, the person claimed the unit was around for 10 yrs. Another DVD player I bought estate sale for $15 sold for $60, another unit I bought out in chester county out of Philadelphia paid $10 earned $75.
Thanks for saving me from making major mistakes in cleaning the machine I have at home. The disc is a great idea for an amateur like me.
You’re welcome!

So I'm going to ask a dumb question, so you do not recommend using one of those (Head Cleaning Video Tape Cassette)? Just wondering.
They do ok, but a good hand clean is best

Clean eye ( if you can get to it) with an eraser ( on the end of a pencil) don't press hard on the eye. Works great
Thanks for the comment!

I see it is a crappy Funai-made VCR. The VCR mechanism is definitely a Funai. Worthless POS if you ask me.
I agree
