Was this guy in the video running same stock front wheel? Just happened to stumble on this video. Would love to upgrade the rear, and the 16x1.85 seems like the best for me being off road. But he didn’t change the front from a regular 19” did he?
Awesome review! Thanks...Any chance you can give the actual weights of both the mounted 16" with Shinko 525 and the mounted 17" with Vee Rubber trials? That would be greatly appreciated...
Hi, I ordered and fitted one of your bash plates over the Christmas holidays here in the UK, very impressed with it, I've seen your previous videos on the front wheel drive, just wondering what sort of distance your getting out of the surron with the twin motor conversion compared to a standard one, i know its difficult to compare, cheers Russ.
I don't have any data on increased range at this stage as it wasn't our intention to increase the range, more so the climbing capability, although range has improved. See more on the setup at th-cam.com/video/Xjeal2VP2kM/w-d-xo.html
Great video John! I am curious about a couple of things, one, did you tune the suspension with a revalve or oil change? And two, are you running tubes in the tires, or mousses?
Tuned suspension by setting sag (air pressure up front and spring adjustment rear) firstly then adjusted rebound and compression. Suspension is a very personal thing. Most of my riding is slower more technical so the stock suspension does the job ok. I have mousse in the 2WD bike front and rear, by Motoz. Total nightmare to fit!!!!! I have a tyre fitting machine and still a nightmare so don't even try mousse unless you're in for some pain.
How much will these limited edition bikes be and where should I send the money? You might actually be out of my budget with that build, but I think I have just gave up on my 2 year plan on getting a ZERO this summer and instead go with a 72v surron. Would love to find a fully built bike with warranty. First I've heard of a front hub build and def would love that add on.
Also absolutely amazing video, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have a Ktm 300 xcw and love hard enduro. Just really dreamed of having an e bike to go explore in the woods in quite. Thanks a million
I would be happy to buy a sur-ron exactly as you have built this one . i just bought a sur-ron i would like the front motor set up from you that would be wonderful. I'm unsure of what controller you have and how it is set up. whats the motor type make model ? I'm trying to build this bike I live in mountains and have been watching your videos. It is just what i need . please help a fella out if you will . thanks
Finally cool to see someone running FWD on a dirt bike! Always wanted to see it on a dirt bike. Would be perfect for climbing and just really digging in. Also, I’m sure a front hub motor could allow for more efficiency. Like if you used the mid drive to accelerate, and a front hub drive for faster top speeds?
Is the front rim and tyre stock? Also how heavy are the sm pros compared to stock, on stock power please shed some light I want 16/19 sm pros but staying stock batt n controller for now, if I get these tyres and rims on stock will I loose my snap dude
An AWD dirt-bike = cool. But that sure seems to go against everything I know about front-end un-sprung weight. Also, doesn't moving the bars forward make you even more likely to go over them?
Interested to know the model of barkbusters (or equiv) you have on that bike. I don't think they make anything specific for Sur-ron yet that i have seen.
Very interesting as ever - how much weight does the front regen hub & battery add approx ? Any ideas yet about the cost of your package might be ? Import tax & shipping costs say to uk ? might be a killer ?
Adds approx 6.5kg, which sounds alot but surprisingly the extra weight on the front makes the bike handle better especially steep hills as the front is normally too light and the wheelbase is so short. Far more stable with a little ballast up front. We haven't locked in a kit yet, possibly will release pre made 2WD bikes first?
G'day John, just a quick question. Any reason why you chose a sur ron and not get an older (not to old ) motocrosser or enduro and pull out the motor and put and electric one in? Just interested because you obviously can ride and by the looks of your shop and that modded sur ron you seem to be good with your hands as well. Cheers Mark.
Hi Mark, I had thought about modifying and existing dirt bike, had looked at converting a KTM. There were several reason I went with the Sur-ron, firstly the price point is cheap considering already set up with quality batteries and ancillaries. Secondly I felt the Sur-ron actually looked similar to a traditional dirt bike as I wasn't interested in an electric push bike. Thirdly weight, if you convert a dirt bike you will end up with a final weight likely 220lbs +. The Sur-ron is half the weight and this is a massive advantage in tight and technical terrain. The size of the Sur-ron is small, say around the size of a big wheel KTM 85 so for larger riders it may be too small. Overall I am glad I went with the Sur-ron as it's become popular for good reason, it is as much fun to ride, cheap, really tough and opens up riding areas you wouldn't think possible. My goal is to prove that it can mix it with the KTMs, Sherco's and real dirt bikes. Stock it doesn't, but with reasonably priced mods it is very capable.
@@Dubl3R That's one I can't answer. We have approx. 1/4 clearance between the chain and tire. You would have to measure the width of the belt and it's offset to work out if it would clear.
So does the front hub regen only the external battery that is solely used for the front hub? Or does the external battery also benefit the main battery?
Only charges the front battery. One of the reasons is the amount of regen from rear and front drive combined would exceed the max charge rate for the main pack cells. By having 2 batteries we are able to increase regen significantly.
@@racespecsurron1220 yes but only the front hub draws power from the front battery. What is you turned the regen off on the rear motor. Could you charge the main battery that way? Would that put too much load on the rear motor?
