Poetry in motion...Mikee Holding set the bar of attainment high. He will forever soar over the cricketing landscape and make Caribbean people proud- bounce he Mikee!!
I watched Michael Holding back in the 70's and 80's and I remember it as if it were yesterday. The man floated up to the crease and effortlessly sent down a 100 mph ball. He was indeed a finely tuned, well-oiled, Rolls Royce. Test match umpire Dickie Bird jokingly complained that, unlike the other bowlers, he couldn't hear Holding approaching during his run-up, and he had to turn to see him; that was more work for Bird. Great to see Mr. Holding is holding his own off the pitch as he did so magnificently on it.
@@adhirajsingh1806 that time there was no ball to ball measuring. Boycott, Imran Khan, Kapil, Chapell and many of his contemporary players rate Holding the fastest of all times, as quick as Thomson. He was the fastest of fearsome foursome
@@adwait73 them rating him as the fastest of all time does not matter as they have not played against all fast bowlers to ever have played international cricket. You can't just say he bowled 100 mph and give the reasoning that his contemporaries said he was the fastest. By the way, a fast bowling competition was held in 1979 where the fastest bowler Thomson measured 91.9 mph and Holding did 87.8. In WACA in 1975, Thomson recorded 99.7 mph and Roberts recorded 99.1 mph. In 1976, Holding also measured a fastest ball of 153 kmph. At the peak of his career, Holding probably bowled in the 140+ kmph range with his fastest ball ever being close to 155, but not '100 mph effortlessly'.
I remember an Aus v Windies test match at the SCG in the mid 80s. There was a massive banner on the old hill that read 'Michael's Holding Viv's Richard'!
I love watching Michael holding’s pace bowling. Great run up, beautiful and rhythmic action with sheer pace bowling who can move the ball in both direction.
Holding speaks from experience. Fantastic fast bowler, a man who talks sense. Spirited guy. Rightly says, fast bowling comes from the heart, only body aint enough.
Sir, In my opinion Michael holding, Joel Garner, Andy Roberts should be appointed as bowling coaches. Sir Vivian Richards, batting coach, Gus Logie, fielding coach for the current West Indies team. Then only the current West Indies team will dominate the cricketing world. Sudharshan, from Chennai ( INDIA )
Good story in Kim Hughes' biography: One of the young Australian batsmen of the time told Kim (his captain) he was troubled by Michael Holding - not for all the usual reasons, but because when facing up to him he found himself absolutely mesmerized by Mikey's run up. Kim's advice: Once he starts his run up, look down at the crease and tap your bat three times. When you look up again, he'll be two thirds of the way in. Not sure it worked.
At 6.20 Michael Holding starts talking about the Indian and Australian fast bowling attacks - just how good they were becoming. Watching the current Test Series between Australia and India, some 15 months after the interview, he is absolutely right. The test matches are dominated by the quicks from both teams and it is wonderful to watch.
They didn't call him Whispering Death for nothing! Run up was so cool, calm, & collected you would not believe the pace he generated after he let that ball fly! What a bowler and what gentleman Michale was and still still is.
Very easy, Step 1. Get Holding’s DNA Step 2. Setup a human cloning lab Step 3. Make several clones Step 4. Let them grow Step 5. And hope one of your clones loves to play cricket. Step 6. You got a fast bowler. The end.

I can remember standing behind the nets at the SCG2 before the Sydney test during the 75/76 series. Michael Holding was bowling to Roy Fredricks with a 2 piece ball. It was terrifying. Roy stormed off in a huff after he'd been hit the 3rd or 4th time.

Had the most beautiful run up and bowling action of any bowler that’s ever played cricket. Watched him in his prime and he was blisteringly quick and in my opinion only Jeff Thomson who I also saw in his prime was quicker.
In the history of Test Match Cricket, Whispering Death is the only fast bowler there has ever been to frighten the opposition into absolute capitulation. As captain of India in 1976,Bishan Bedi refused to bat for his country not once but twice. Both he(Bedi)and the 3 remaining players had the opportunity to win the Test Match and the series but fear prevented him from taking up the challenge.
