Hello Kevin, I Have been enjoying Your content for the past few days, and you have taught me some very interesting things. Your motorless sailing techniques are Impressive and show what a talented sailor was like before modern sailboat design.
Kevin, This is the first of your videos I watched shortly after you posted it. I immediately subscribed thereafter. It's now June 10th, and I just watched it for the 2nd time. During the past several days, I started binge watching your videos starting from the beginning, spending 1 to 2 hours per day, and went all the way through - back to this one. I love what you do, and enjoyed all of your videos. I'm a retired naval architect and marine engineer, landlocked for the past 15 years (even though I live along the Downeast Maine seacoast). My soul has a need for a return to the sea. I'm presently working up a set of plans for a new boat, which I'll be building myself (I used to have a wooden boat shop on Cape Cod year ago). I'm sharing the design process on my TH-cam channel weekly. I will make the plans available free to anyone interested when I've finished building the boat. I hope to see you in port one day soon. I'd love to have a chat. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of your next video, and hope you made a safe passage to the Chesapeake.
Nerves of steel Keven, I would have had to change my drawers on that second bridge with that big boat coming up from behind and being total dependent on the wind. Thanks for showing how it’s done 😉👍 !
The focus and skill of a true sailor. The challenge must make it very enjoyable and satisfying rather then just a lazy throttle on. You might have some Slocum blood in you. Always awesome to watch. Fair winds
Much as I like AC-DC/music, breasts and a handful of other things that our cheap, tacky, consumerist society uses to manipulate & disorientate the irrational herd, I come here for an authentic boat/lifestyle/person. To be honest I don't even notice the music until I read this and replayed.... So it's not a problem, yet. Please, please, please let let this continue to be THE authentic sailing channel - man, boat, camera!!!
I got stressed just watching it Kevin. I don't think I could ever get used to tight sailing between bridge spans with no motor. As the French say, 'Chapeau'.
Once again...... Sailing for sailors! Always a great to watch you sail and discuss what's happening without extraneous noise(raucous music), long intros or cute shots of the kiddies or dogs/cats aboard. It's be great to see you up on the Chessie. How far North will you come?
Dear Kevin, as always... A warm teacup of sun, blue sky, silent sailing with just the noise of water alongside your hull... Yous videos always end too soon! Can't wait for the next one!
Good examples of your thought processes in decision making. You make the logic seem easy! Good information is essential, so I hope you can share some specifics on your information sources for wind, tide, maps, etc. You inspire! Sail on!
Have a good passage Kevin !! that boat i was looking at back there sold so someone saw the potential as i did in it, and they snapped it up but thx for offering to look at for me i appreciate that !!
Enjoyed the video...thanks.....good decision making/ planning, well done. Likely as not sitting quiet and comfortable up a secluded bay near Annapolis? Look forward to your passage video. Fair Winds, thanks, Andrew
There is a nice anchorage at Virginia Key. The Seaquarium is nice there. The have a lot of injured animals. One of the ground plate bolts fell out! got it pumped down and found the leak. Plugged it temporary. Going to pull it, replace all the ground plate bolts and paint the hull.
@@howtosailoceans1423 I think the stadium anchorage is on the other side of the bridge. I dropped anchor around 25° 44.219'N 080° 10.359'W and took the dinghy to the parking lot due east. One of your videos showed Windy. I have been having a blast with that site. The other was Ventusky. I had a hard time getting the name of one of those off your video. They are very useful.
Another fascinating vid. LOL the blue tape on the plastimo compass cover. I have one of those and the cover always pops off and I find it floating around the cockpit. I may have to copy your trick.
Excellent m8! Laundry, planning, sailing, greasing and your own music. A very personal way which makes it interesting and on another level. May I ask, did you have another camera in this one?
I really liked seeing you sailing through those bridges. If there's wind, you use it! Love your little boat and that oarlock off the stern you run your dinghy line through. Is it also used for mounting an emergency rudder? Sail on!
@@howtosailoceans1423 I have had to sail into our marina slip before because of contaminated fuel on our Beneteau 285, I lucked out and the wind was favorable to make it all the way in but it's not something I would want to do regularly. We do sail a Hobie 16 also but for some reason it is less stressful on the hobie with no engine.
@@chaddthompson Well if you hit something with a Hobie it probably won't be too bad if you are going slowly, but a full on cruising boat is another matter ... congrats on the emergency landing, fair winds
I noticed you using the WINDY App on a cell phone. On your voyage northward, I suspect cell reception will be a bit spotty or non existent for much of the journey?
@@howtosailoceans1423 Dude! That's awesome! Can I bring some dinner and beers or wine down to the boat for a meet and greet when you get here? I would love to hang out and hear about your sailing adventures in person. I'm kinda stuck in the rat race right now, but I've got an Alberg 30 that I'd like to take off with and go cruising some day.
Hello before you sail out get on the bus and visit restaurant la Careta and walk calle 8 or 8 St. You will enjoy. Thanks for the video. Are you practicing you pilot skills. Saludos
You should have a larger viewership for the good content you provide
Always a pleasure watching a skilled sailor navigate without an engine! Nice job Kevin!!

Hey, Kevin!
I like your personal attitude!

I like that you give us lots of information in such a casual manner. If one didn't know sailing, one wouldn't catch your very high skill level.
That sailing was like threading a shoe lace threw a sewing needle. Nicely done.

'I would have had to change my drawers on that second bridge' ...lmfao!

Man Kevin...yet another skillfully executed transit through tight quarters, with flood tides nonetheless! More please.
It's about time, one of you sailing channels played some good background music. And AC-DC was a good selection. Fair winds and a safe sail.

Ha! As if that trip around Iceland wasn't already causing enough stress. I just returned to the Bay, I see you have a few more episodes posted.
So great to watch you sail, you put almost all of us to shame with your sailing skills.
Thanks for sharing, fair winds.!

Probably as far as Baltimore..
All set now for the return to the cold North again. YEA. Hope you get fair winds and the Gulf Stream doesn't beat you to death. Happy sailing.
Now that is handling traffic! Excellent boating!
Nicely done!
Back at it Kevin. Hope you enjoyed your stay in South Beach. Have a nice sail back to the Chesapeake.
Great job Kevin. Safe travels
Thanks Joe. Miami is really getting hot and humid, need to seek some higher latitudes. Have fun fitting out the new boat.
We’re going to be in Maryland during the month of August. If you are in those waters then, it would be cool to meet up!
Good chance I will be, probably somewhere around Annapolis.
How to Sail Oceans Awesome! When we come back to work/visit, we are about 30 min from Annapolis. (I can also give you a lift if you need)
Lad you are a true sailor dam sailing under bridges unreal don’t know of anyone else with your skill level cheers mate
I don't think there were many bridges in Slocum's time, so it's an adaptation ...

Nicely done, as always.
Nice Kevin! Hope to see you soon in Solomons.
I plan to haulout before heading northbound up the Bay ... I'll give you a shout when I get there.
masterful
great job
I think you’re just showing off now! 😁
Good info on the dingy being along side.
As usual Kevin......great job.......hope you get to Maine this summer!
Just the Bay is on tap for now, perhaps next summer as I am considering some new cruising routes...
...nice save on the day marker...Yikes‼️
Sweeeeeet 👌😎👍

Hi Andrew, no I'm still in Miami looking for a good departure window, will video the passage for sure.
Obrigado
Nicely done! I could see you taking that beacon out but you couldn't hear my warning shouts! Another great video, thanks Kevin!
You mean shouting through the computer screen, lol? Thanks for watching.

Do you wash your clothes in seawater sometimes?

Excellent m8! Laundry, planning, sailing, greasing and your own music. A very personal way which makes it interesting and on another level. May I ask, did you have another camera in this one?
Yep, Go Pro Hero 7. I love free laundry service, filled my tanks up that day too--much better than tap water.

We've seen Kevin use it for skulling in previous videos.
@@resarfw Thanks. I was going to sleep last night, and thought, skulling would also be possible. That's a rudder too!
It's admirable and amazing that you are able to do all this without an engine but man it seems like it could be stressful, especially single handed.
It can be at times, but most places I sail do not present too many difficulties for the engineless sailor.

Nice 👍👍

Lol was going to call out when you got close to pole lol.
That's pretty cool how you sail almost engineless!
Where are you going in the Chesapeake?
How long will you stay?
Are you based there?
I'll work my way up to Baltimore, then back down. Will probably haulout in Deltaville.

Wow you can tow a dinghy up in the gulf stream ? please take some footage of that ,it's always one of my problems when sailing .
No, the dink goes up on the foredeck for offshore sailing.
Your sail your boat like music
How hard is it to sail??? Where can I start???
PUT A FUNNEL IN IT! (that jug that is)
Or, now that I've thought about it, buckit.
How long does it need to rain for you to catch up on chores?
Jesus Kevin, you make me nervous sometimes. Fun though...
Ha! Always fun when your fate hangs on the wind, I recommend it ..

I thought you might see my buddy Chuck Finley at the bar there.!He kinda likes the ladies.
Perhaps I did, Mangoes is a popular spot.
