Britain's Queen Mother celebrated her 99th birthday in front of crowds of cheering well wishers in London.
About five-thousand people gathered outside her official residence, Clarence House, on Wednesday to see the royal whose life spans the century.
Many had waited since early in the morning.

Britain's Queen Mother, more fondly referred to as the 'Queen Mum,' emerged from her home at London's Clarence House on Wednesday for birthday wishes from the public.
Thousands of well-wishers came to wish the Queen Mother well in marking her 99th birthday, making her as old as the century itself.

To mark the royal occasion, the band of the Welsh Guards marched past playing the birthday song for the royal family's reigning matriarch.
The crowd, many of whom had waited for hours at the gates, gave warm cheers to honour one of the Windsor family's most popular royals.
The Queen Mother stood firmly, declining the offer to sit down for the ceremony and aided only by her silver-handled cane.

She was presented with scores of birthday cards and bouquets from the crowd.
Nearly five-thousand admirers came, both Britons and curious tourists always eager to catch a rare glimpse of a member of the British royal family.

Then the Queen Mother made a sprightly walk over to the waiting crowd to chat and shake hands.
The birthday was truly a national event, with B-B-C television playing the national anthem on their news bulletins as a form of tribute.
The Queen Mother was joined by other royals to mark her birthday with a family lunch, which included her daughter Queen Elizabeth the Second, Prince Charles and his two sons, Princes William and Harry.

The Queen Mum had more charm than any other Royal of modern times. Thank goodness she was there in World War II to support the King and the nation.

@@maryhlad5277the Queen mum was a tough old bird as us cockney's say, apparently she told the government when they advised her to send her girls to Canada for safety that "the children won't go without me, I won't leave the King and the King will never leave his people" and when she visited the east end of London which was bombed out badly people were hostile because of how she was dressed and her response to that was to say if the public came to visit her they would wear their best clothes so she should reciprocate in kind and when Buckingham Palace was bombed she apparently said "I'm glad that we have been bombed it makes me feel I can look the east end in the face!" 🤣🤣🤣

I think the biggest celebration of the Queen Mother was on 1 January 2001, as she then had lived for a full century, the 20th century, which started in January 1901 (five months after her birth) and ended in December 2000.

But, upon her death, he was kicked to the curb. He was treated horribly after so many faithful years of dedication to Her Majesty the Queen Mother. He was kicked out of his little grace and favour flat Her Majesty had allowed him to live in, just around the corner from Clarence House. He was treated as a common street animal. Very sad. The Queen Mother would be very upset if she knew what they did to him.

@@gerardcollins80 I have done MY research. While The Queen Mother said herself that she could be very mean, this was NOT meant that she was a horrible human being on every level. Quite the contrary. Those who were deserving of her kindness and generosity received it. Those who weren't, got the evil side of her.
While she was a stickler for formality when it was called for, she could be lax within the confines of Clarence House when it was just the regular staff there. The one thing she did not like was people always thrusting their babies at her, and I can't say I blame her.
She wasnt a fan of Diana or Sarah Ferguson either. However, she tolerated Sarah because Andrew still loved her. So Her Majesty knew there must be something about Sarah or else Andrew wouldve been rid of her. Diana's name was not be spoken around her. If it was, her classic response was 'oh well, some things are better left unsaid'.
While its true that when it came to Edward and Wallis, Her Majesty had ice running through her veins. How could one blame her?
Who can blame HM The Queen Mother when it came to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The abdication of King Edward VIII put her husband, HM King George VI on the throne totally unprepared and in her eyes and mine, into an early grave.
