- I found coin cleaning to be so soothing during my COVID illness recently, I thought Id share with you the satisfying time lapse video of a clean up of a worn Victoria Penny. There is no talking only the sounds of the cleaning up.
Disclaimer - Do NOT clean old , valuable or key date coins like this. Only clean worn coins you want to keep.

The Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars says "All Silver Dollars Should Be Cleaned !" first sentence chapter 16.
Now rinse that coin in Baking Soda to make sure it has no H+ Ions on it. Well unless you are wanting it to Tarnish (Tone)

I've had great results using a soft toothbrush and WD40 or if you want a bit more shine use T-Cut and buff with a soft cloth after cleaning with the toothbrush.
High five now rinse with Baking Soda like Leroy Van Allen says, Kill those H+ ions.
What were those coloured pastes you used, Dawn?
I bought them from amazon they were diamond graded polishes from 40 - 0.5

Personally I don’t see the harm in cleaning the coin if you know what you are doing. Coin collectors everywhere would be cringing 😬 to see this but I think it looks a sight better. I’m happy if you’re happy 😃
Coin collectors wouldnt be cringing because they have the knowledge that its a very common worn Victoria penny with no value :-)

in the spink book in VF condition it is worth £2, the coin I cleaned wasnt VF as it had all her necklace and face detailing rubbed off. I think in the USA you see coins like this as collectable where over here they are common place.

hi dawn if spent a fortune the last couple of years looking at cleaning pens lotions and potions and all tricks of the trade but not satisfied with anything yet what you using there looks good

Coin dealers will attack you (others) because they are covering up the mistakes they have been making for 25 years. Sulfuric late onset damage. Van Allen told them to rinse with Baking Soda but they would not listen, now they are screwed. The toning on their professional graded coin is salt, Their coins are painted with sulfite salt.
You just destroyed any value the coin may have had!
Gordon in VF condition, of which this coin is not as its very worn and has no detailing of necklace etc, it would have a VF value of £2 in the Spink book. I am actually a coin collector and know the value of coins and gradings, do you really think I would polish up a coin that has value? Or do you just use that line for a blanket statement about anything being cleaned?
@@DiggerDawn I've followed you as a subscriber for years (I love the Silver Dance and Diggey Dig, your dog}. I'm not altogether against coins if they have intrinsic value, but I've witnessed so many coins being polished beyond belief.

Enjoyed my visit and the video Dawn, the only thing I would loved to have seen was a list of each paste used to clean the coin. But have to be honest loved the final look of the coin. Cheers
Nice video. I worked for a metal polishing company that made kitchen knives to a mirror finish. Little tip, if you have scratches left to right, you have to polish the scratch out going the other way, up and down. I your case, turn the orientation of the coin to the Dremel polisher. Also use a different mop for each grade of grit. Nice job, looks like gold.

But if you are working on a coin with a reeded field (basin) you should polish with the grain of the reeds, normally from the center of the coin outward in all directions. Note reeds are microscopic, hard to see, easy to destroy with polish. Be very carful.

I was too ill at the time to do anything other than clean, it was keeping me relaxed so I just thought Id share it as it was

I got them from Amazon, they are graded from 40 to 0.5 finish, I also like the jewelers rouge (the red one) that really brings up a shine

Yet others are only worth a dollar and can be destroyed on Friday night as a replacement therapy for I Quit Drinking. I throw away Indian Head Pennies now like I used to throw away empty beer cans. Yep coin dealers say I can just Trash them now. Secret, I've been keeping all of them in a draw string bag, it's like saving empty beer cans, I used to do that too.
