      You could do with buying a MIG or better a TIG a lot less welding is required.

    I ride my bike everyday. Anything I do to it has to be practical and long lasting. This is why I like watching your vids they may not always be the text book taught way of how to do it but it works for you and the way you want it. Nice job looks great and is hand made👍

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andy, i totally agree, if you're gonna do a job, then do it one time and forget it.. And yeah, i don;t always follow the text books... but i have always believed in the old sayings that "there's always more than one way to do a job, and much of methodology is politics", and also " 90% of what we learn in school we don't use in our lives, and 90% of what we use in our lives we didn't learn at school".. !

    Nice job on the pipes mate. The welding snobbery that you mentioned.... The biggest thing is realising limitations. I can do I pretty good weld on a piece of 3mm steel, tidy it up with a grinder, it's fine. It's fine for a piece of none structural, none essential, none weight bearing piece of steel. If it should break or crack (never happened yet I have to say) no one injured, no crashes caused. I understand that just because I get away with that doesn't mean I can start welding bike frames or engine supporting chassis. If I did that... Then we would more than likely have a problem at some point for sure. The welding that you did on that exhaust was great mate...... Jesus it's a freakin exhaust and you can't see the welds....what more do people want 😂😂. Again, good job fella. RSMB.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you kindly Sir, and I have to agree... but here's a thing, don't fear the bike frame welds, I learned a lot from cutting them up over the years, the back end of a Bandit sub-frame is stitch welded on to the main loop, at best... most of the welds are not pretty, and it's 1mm tubing, and when it's a piece of scrap, I use it as an opportunity to test welds like that... and I've leathered on them for a minute, or longer, with a 2lb hammer, and they don't break... it's purely the penetration that matters, I've seen brand new bikes in the showroom with weld splatter on the frames and work that doesn't look a lot better than mine, so I'm no scared of it, I may get myself a frame jig (or build one) and maybe start with a bicycle frame to see how I get on... everybody starts somewhere aye? Have a good weekend bruv, and enjoy the sunshine.

    The end result of this is incredible Del no matter what the weld police say. One thing that does concern me is that PPE for your digits was rather lacking in some parts of this video. Just looking out for you brother and don’t want to see you have an injury whether it’s cut, weld, grind or otherwise. Fantastic job sir, keep making the bike you want to make and continue to impress us!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you kindly James, and I genuinely appreciate your concern, I completely accept and concede that I do something 'just get on with the job' rather than take every last precaution, when you're wrapped in a busy long job, the constant on and off, and on and off, of gloves and other PPE does get repetitive and time consuming, but of course you're right, that's no excuse... and you'll soon count the cost when you collect a knick and expose the red stuff... it's pretty rare, and I generally tend to take care of myself. Thank you again for your support and concern mate.

      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure thing buddy, it wasn't really a rant, just making a point about my mis-understanding of where all this welding snobbery comes from... it doesn't exist in the machinist world, or vehicle painting, or even the regular mechanic community, it seems only welding attracts such a toffee nosed outlook from certain people, as long as it's strong and beefy and doesn't break, then the looks are secondary!

Truth is mate,you can probably do it better then them,and they know it,but wont admit it. Im like you,if its strong and wont break,and your happy with it, well thats all that matters. 👍👍#1 fan Down under.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate, that's really kind... I heard a great comment years ago from a welding teacher, he said if you want to test whether a welded job is strong, lift it above your head and drop it on a concrete floor, if it don't break, it's good! Fun and a bit tongue in cheek maybe, but his point was, not to take it too seriously, fusing two pieces of steel together is all you're trying to do, what it looks like is secondary... thanks again, stay in touch, and keep safe down there mate.

    Coffee snobs, Welding snobs, Beer snobs, Style snobs, indeed. It is tough for a lot of people to shrug off the *tsk* *tsk* criticisms levelled against them from the "You're doing it wrong" crowd sometimes, but thankfully forging ahead to do your own thing is worth everything, in the end. While I am disappointed not to see 3 into 3 on the bike, I have to admit the 3 into 1 looks pretty damn good. I cannot help but notice that all the 'experts' have advice. Mostly expensive advice. I remember well back when you "first struck an arc". You have come a long long way Buddy.
    I have spent many years turning wrenches (WTF is a 'spanner?) and at age78 would in no way attempt fabrication, so I have to admire what you have accomplished, Self taught.
    That said, I certainly hope the result you obtained with just imagination, spot welding, grinding and patience will shut up a certain foul mouth critic, whom I have never seen accomplish a damn thing. While he may have done somethin, I do not have the tolerance for his foul mouth to watch more than 30 seconds or so of his videos. Therefore, I will content myself to watching what you and some others accomplish in your "Workshop".
    Just keep on keeping on.

      Thank you Sir, probably been at this for about 10yrs since I picked up the first weld torch, but just never get the day to day practice to improve more quickly, but am happy at where I am, and more than conscious of my failings and what I need to pick up on... just remember my friend, the internet is permanently infected by a negative minority, but they only have credibility if you watch them, listen to them and talk about them, but if their angst is forever met with silence they become irrelevant and unimportant... take care and have a wonderful weekend Sir.
