Freehold hands down....i bought a condo town in 2018 as a first home and then sold it within 2 years because I was frustrated by paying over $200/month in maintenance fee...i sold it and now bought a deattached freehold single family home...i would rather do everything myself and not pay any maintenance...even the contractors are cheaper then the maintenance fee...if i dont want to moe the lawn or showel the snow...i can hire a contractor for only $400 for the whole season

You have to get approval to do modifications and renovations on your own house in a condo townhouse. Who really owns the house in that situation? Better to always go freehold. That way, you don’t need “permission “ from anyone to do anything.

You do own, but by owning you agree to follow the rules of the community. Many if the rules are in place to keep the look and integrity of the community, something that people buy into a complex for. As for interior, not as sticky and I’ve seen plenty of completely renovated condo TH’s. Best to check with the individual condo. As for your comment on freehold, I agree. Challenge is they are priced much higher for a comparable unit. If one can afford freehold go for it, but it do someone would rather wait years to save up and loose out then I would buy the condo TH, get on the property ladder and move up accordingly.

Great video Jeff. Same scenario here in KW with freehold pricing outpacing condos.

10 years ago when I created this blog website I just kind of came up with the name. Guru in a western context means more of an expert or authority. Thanks for the comment!

Yup that’s the more or less similar meaning in hindi as well. Guru means teacher or mentor and it is derived from Sanskrit which again an ancient Indian language.
