My father was in the hospital for a flare of his congestive heart failure. He was put on a BiPAP machine by the ER nurses. A few hours later, his breathing was suddenly much worse. Nurses tried everything they could think of to help him, but nothing worked. A respiratory therapist came to see how he was and quickly discovered that the BiPAP machine was defective. Got my dad on a different machine and immediately his breathing improved. I will always be grateful for that RT for helping my dad.

Great job but take some advice and focus on getting understanding, not an A. Remember getting a C equals getting your CRT:)

That is not totally true! While it's true that Nursing always seems to get more recognition than RT's, the nursing staff and physicians depend on the RT's skills. They do not understand many of the airway issue's and ventilation strategies as we do. The patient's also greatly depend on us to help them understand their lung condition better. I've had many nurses tell me that they appreciate me and what I do.

You can do anything as an RT!! I have for 38+ years. I like smaller hospitals now, after being at 1200 bed hospitals early in my career. Learn all you can and have fun!!
