Well accepted on the thorn catalyst, a small boost with picking up a remnant by receiving killing wind definitely gives it the buff it needed for being changed into a 140.
I personally haven’t been able to use it yet but Thorn is obviously one of everyone’s day one fav weapons so for them to finally release a catalyst is huge and shows they might actually be considering what the community wants, I’m probably wrong but that’s the hope! Love your vids man!
Opinion of new catalyst: What was once good has become great. It has always been a competitive HC (and criminally underused in endgame pvp) but now is getting stacking benefits on remnant pickup and a blanket stat bump equivalent to an all-uptime Killing Wind and collectable triggered Encore. Two of, arguably, the best dueling perks in PvP. Not nessicarely "new" but Tic damage acting as a non-fall off output provides even longer range opportunities, reserection denial, and location spotting via damage markers on the continuous output. And as demonstrated in this video, you will now be pigeon holing enemies into T10 resilience builds just to keep up..... Also, a pretty killer ornament to put the cherry on top :)
Thorn was one of my OG D1 go to’s. It’s really nice seeing it come back (somewhat) to its former glory. Thanks to your video I know it’s def farming time
The Thorn has been my go-to gun in Destiny. I LOVED it during D1 year 1 when it was so broken because it was such a unique gun coming from Halo and how difficult it was to get it and aesthetics overall is amazing. Going into D2, I have been DYING for the thorn catalyst to come since they became a thing, now finally my beautiful thorn has a beautiful gold border and kill tracker (it's my highest kinetic weapon kill in PVP and 5th in PVE) not to mention the amazing stat boosts which almost make it feel like Y1 thorn all over again. I' m so happy I got it! Edit: Finished watching the video and you literally got me back on the game just to use it!
I've been waiting on a Thorn catalyst for so long! I'm glad they're finally dishing out the cats to classic exotics that need'em. I love the extra stability that Jake raves about in this video. Thorn bucks pretty hard on controller, so extra stability plus 40 in the clip? That sounds like a PVE and PVP monster.
I think this is amazing for thorn! My friend loves thorn and has always wanted it to have a catalyst and the fact that now we have one is amazing! Thorn needed the extra range to start competing with elite hand cannons and now we have it. I think it’s going to be so fun to play with!
I am very happy with the Thorn catalyst. I think it allows the gun to compete with other top tier legendary and exotic hand cannons. Frankly, even if it was just the stat boost, I would be happy, but the Killing Wind like buff on kill/soul pickup is the icing on the cake. It makes Thorn more fun to use (especially in 6’s), however it won’t be meta in the sense that PK-Titans will still counter it with smgs/t10 resilience/overshields.
I'm personally torn on the Thorn Caty. On one hand, it needed some kind of buff, the change from being a 150 to 140 really hurt it, so the range buff was needed. However, on the other hand, the stability increase plus the addition of basically Killing WInd when getting a kill AND/OR a Remenant is a little over the top. Thorn already was a pain to go up against because of the poison dmg, but now that it can out-range a lot of other weapons, especially with the poison, the caty might end up needing some tunning.
I loved thorn in D1. It's a great gun but it was lacking range in D2, now the perks of the catalyst makes this gun awesome. I loved thorn before I got my I'll will in D1 with luck in the chamber final round with a 5 round magazine. Good video bro.
I miss Exotic Bountys 😁.I like what they did with Thorn, the Catalyst seems worth it and it will make it a more viable weapon in the future. My favorite feature is the added Mobility however I wish the Catalyst itself would have dropped from a good old-fashioned Exotic Bounty bring them back please it's not as fun getting it from a random drop in a playlist so easily.
I think the thorn catalyst is important in the gun itself as 49 range, you could feel the major fall off compared to other 140s, having that +20 range has made the gun now not only one of the best hand cannons in the game, but also made it practically meta, making people switch up their mods and load outs and stats in order to combat this major change. I believe that the catalyst was good, but also caused its own problems like everything else in the game when it gets added.
Thorn catalyst Is by far the coolest thing to happen in the whole of destiny 2 imo. I still remember how thorn was broken back in destiny 1 and we loved it. To know that it's happening again is very nostalgic and super exciting.
I think the Thorn Catalyst is Amazing. It was already good without the catalyst.. I played it a lot and I’m gonna play it even more now 😆. The extra range is very good😁
Even though I always wanted thorn in D1, but never could get it. When I got to destiny 2 I thought it would live up to my dreams. I used it religiously, trying to love it, but that range killed it. With this catalyst, I’m never taking thorn off. Free juiced up killing wind is insane and the insane stat boost. This thing is gonna be popping. HYPED!
Definitely makes it more stable especially when you consider the way the thorn recoils after each shot compared to some of the other hand cannons available good to see one of the hand cannon greats make a comeback
I've been a fan of thorn ever since it came back to D2. Was it Forsaken I believe? Season of the Drifter? But yea, I loved the aesthetic and the sound, just fell in love. It definitely has been plagued by other HC just do to range, but with the caty now?!!! It can hang with the other 140's, the only other 140 I fell in love when it came back was palindrome. Again the sound and aesthetic of the weapon. I got mine to drop in a strike but I am definitely going to farm the caty kills on my titan as people are all over the crucible using it lol. Kind of like the days when Ace got dropped.
I've been waiting for Thorn to get a catalyst for ages, and I'm excited to play around with it. Hand cannons have felt a little lack-luster to me in the last few seasons so I'm glad Bungie gave me a reason to break out one of my favorite weapons again.
I personally think that the boost in range is a must have. The gun was originally lacking in range and stability. Not to mention now that the mag can overflow, I can peak continuously without reloading.
imo, i think the catalyst really gives it ease of use especially up close, and a chance to compete against handcannons that used to overlap it. i hope to get it soon and main as i was prepping prior to the season. i love the thorn catalyst because everytime id switch from a different 140 to thorn, i always saw my primary weapon performance heavily dip especially in the sbmm we’re in. with this catalyst, i look forward to finally wield it without playing bad!
I love the thorn catalyst for the stat bumps alone. This hand canon is one of my favorites but I typically swap it out for rose or austringer just for how stable and sticky these HCs are. I don’t have the catalyst yet but am really excited to play with it in both pve and PvP
I'm really happy with the new Thorn Catalyst. Primarily because the friend who got me started in Destiny loved it so much in D1 and has been really sad not being able to use it in favour of meta weapons in Crucible. So hearing how happy he is makes me happy too. And the weapon itself for me feels really nice. I like Hand Cannons too, but will switch off more readily if I feel I'm not effective. Thorn makes me feel effective now.
What I love about the catalyst is that it makes the hand cannon feel like an scout rifle but with so much more mobility. Something that I’m going to hate is that in trials is going to be a headache. Hope I get that emblem 😢
I have loved thorn since Destiny 1, "A light in the dark" the catalyst really has helped its base stats and I have been using it a lot before this season. It really suffered from the range but now I think it feels great. Once you get one kill it's really fun to just keep going on kill streaks.
I got the new thorn Catalyst last night playing crucible and got it upgraded right before I went to bed so haven't personally used it yet. I can say though that I didn't play one crucible match that didn't have at least 2 people using thorn against me. Im really excited to try it out! I think its gonna be beast. I used thorn a ton in D1 and I am excited to have it back in the meta
I just switched from my Titan to a Stasis Hunter in Trials with Cryosthesia and Bakris. This catalyst and your video will make me switch back to my Titan. Go Titans!
Hey that’s me 🤣🤣 My opinion of this new catalyst, I really like it, I like the idea of using the kinetic surges and just the handling all the way around.!
For me I'm excited for the catalyst because I remember in D1 I GRINDED for the thorn because I love how it looks. Once I got it however I could not use it at all. Now that I'm on M&k and have gotten a whole lot better after thousands of hours of practice I love it and am glad it will be more viable.
Fun fact: DragonThunders got his name due to the fact while he walks, he ”drags” that juicy wagon. With each step, those hams produce a “thunderous” clapping. Hence, DragonThunders.
It's amazing. I can for sure see that it could be a potential issue but it's also what Thorn needed. Ever since it was converted to a 140 the weapon has been lacking. This is exactly what it needed. Feels like the old D1 days but better
Diggin new catalyst and it’s worth it. Not only the normal weapon upgrades but the fact that picking up the soul devour gives the gun more of a boost. Forces you to stay on the move and collect those souls.
What I think about this catalyst: good because it puts thorn on the map and so many people get to use it that have always wanted to but has been over run by smh target lock meta. Bad because the catalyst is so strong that if your not running 7-10 disciple they may have the upper hand and also all you will see is thorn, so thorn meta maybe couple smgs here and there but it’s one of those 2 if you try to have a variety of weapons you can’t because how strong thorn and smgs are
I 100% agree that thorn has been deserving of a catalyst for a while. Honestly I’m just happy that it’s an exotic hc that’ll be strong this season. This, along with other nerfs, will hopefully make trials slightly more active and have slightly less titans hiding behind barricades and bubbles.
I think the storm catalyst is really nice as it's definitely gonna make it more viable in PvP, and since it isn't too hard to get as it drops from activities it shouldn't be too hard to get.
I think the Thorn catalyst is really good because it will really help the gun counter act the current meta. I put this gun at an S tier gun like back in the old D1 days.
That thorn catalyst I believe is overdue. It’s been around for awhile and yes, it poisons and provides that tick damage, but that boost to stability and range it going to be unmatched. I remember running sunshot when it got its catalyst and it just shook everything up. It’ll be interesting to see how people build to combat the new thorn catalyst.
I’m glad that the catalyst is able to switch up the meta from all the norm. I think we are passed due for a change. Love it! thanks GJake for the in depth review
Thorn has been my favorite HC since D1, I’m glad it’s now a competitive option again since being converted into a 140 with the additional range and killing wind
I like the fact that they added the new catalyst (finally) but I have a feeling it will be ruined by the negative parts of the player base. The DOT will annoy players like LeMonarc does and the novelty in the first few weeks of the season will definitely show in the number of people playing it initially. If it's too strong with the kinetic mods, I worry that those two things will compound and make a negative overall opinion.Excited that Bungie is listening to player demand and I like the fact that the catalyst makes it feel strong, like an exotic should, just hoping the people who are annoyed with it doesn't send the wrong message to developers that the majority of players want new content, and more often, even at the risk of something being to strong initially. Respectfully, JRC2206 from Twitch chat :)
I didn’t use thorn much before the catalyst, it’s made the gun much more stable and I find myself using it a lot in 6s because I think it works better for more targets to go after. Awesome edition to the gun. Now we need a last word catalyst and destiny will be a much better place🎉
I think the Thorn Catalyst has brought this iconic weapon back into the mix of metah weapons. I like that the main benefits come from kills/remnants, so it’s the same game play loop as pre catalyst. However, I don’t like how much it benefits Titans because of the need for tier 6 resilience, who are already dominating crucible, especially in Trials.
I think the catalyst will move Thorn into the S tier category for 140s. I'm not sure how it will stack up in the long run against 120s, but I can definitely see it being the go-to weapon for scrims because of the restrictions on 120s. Definitely interested to see how things pan out.
With all the other 140s with superior range it felt like the thorn just drifted away. Now with the catalyst one of the best feeling hand cannons gets to regain its place in the sun. I love it. It will be all over the place this season but as other weapons emerge moving forward I feel that thorn will find a sweet spot. It’s an exotic and should feel powerful IMO.
The fact that thorn gets a flat range buff without soul devourer is so exciting so i can use it competitively and not have to rely on getting the soul, the thorn catalyst is such a good thing to add, thanks bungie
The "active" improvement leans into the fantasy of the weapon, but relies on the player having a fair grasp of the weapon's playstile already. The "passive" benefits everyone at all times, but would be quite boring on it's own. I think this is a great way of implementing catalysts overall. Great step in the right direction! Thorn in perticular might end up needing some tuning, but that'll have to wait to be seen.
I honestly love it, thorn feels so crispy now but what I love even more is everyone including myself using it and having fun with it. So much better than getting killed by smgs. Feels like the og D1 days when thorn was dominating then and I’m having fun with it
I like the added range. It seems as thought before the catalyst the drop off was really close. Now I can challenge at more of a distance and up close. Instead of running a sniper it opens up my weapon combo diversity
I've yet to use it in crucible, but why I'm so excited is Thorn was the first exotic quest I really, really grinded for in D2. It made me love the game. So to see it get it's day in the sun, I'm excited (and terrified).
My thoughts on Thorn...... I've never used thorn before and never bothered to buy it, but the changes they have made and seeing all these reviews on it made me go get it alongside the catalyst. Also I am sad about the new changes though, because I main hunter and all of my builds only go up to Resilience #3 😔💔 So that means I will have to go play Titan and Warlock. Although I already play Titan on Trials, I was hoping this season I would have been able to play Hunter... since they made the Titan and Warlock super changes for a longer cool down. But overall pretty impressive what Thorn Can do now. I am looking forward to using it 🙂
I wonder if the Thorn Catalyst is trying to bring some reminiscence of when it was the most broken HC in D1. Feels like this will be a nostalgic season going into TFS.
I think the catalyst was a good thing for Thorn, we have been wanting a catalyst for it and I feel like it did it justice to compete with other 140’s. Not just adaptive 140s but also lightweight 140s too. A classic D1 weapon that got a catalyst, which Bungie did it justice. I’m honestly happy how they buffed this HC. It needed the love.
I think the Thorn catalyst is the perfect example on how a catalyst can make an exotic feel upgraded. It isn't completely broken but it is certainly very strong and a very viable option in both PvE for the huge magazine and extra poison effect and in competitive PVP for the buff to range and stability.
As a Hunter main this catalyst is going to be rough but I’m excited! It gives thorn that edge it needed to compete with other hand cannons at range. I’m excited to get back in my old D1 tendencies using thorn and last word with a sniper once again!
Considering it’s been a while since the Thorn was looked at, the catalyst was a very nice touch and I can’t wait to see how it works in both PVP and PVE .. it’s a good day for Thorn lovers lol
I dont know how i feel about the catalyst yet but the fact it got one gave me a reason to pull it out the vault again. Forgot how much i used to like this hand cannon, catalyst made me dust it off, so for that im appreciative. ahaha.
The Catalyst is great but I feel it kinda just brings it in line with other HCs and how they feel/how hard they hit apart from in the 2% of the time when everything works and you get a solid 2 tap, little extra which is the point of Exotics, they are supposed to stand out or have something that makes them want to be picked over others and the chance of a two tap every few kills without doing much else is a nice bonus
I like the cat on Thorn. It'll take a huge investment. It might be used against groups specifically lacking Titans and even Warlocks. Might want to have it ready with a build for those situations.
Don't have the caty yet but Thorn was already a solid HC, especially in 6's. Now it's gonna be even better. Glad I'm a titan main for the tier 10 resil benefit. Thanks for the detailed tier by tier damage breakdown.
The extra range and stability is just a nice touch for the gun. I think it definitely makes it more stable and better for long distance fights. Its already taking over the crucible
The catalyst gives it an edge for sure for Thorn this season in the crucible and a must but this will enforce most builds to get their resilience up for sure. It'll put the hunters and warlocks to the test with their reslience and maybe a bonus damage for the warlock exotic arms to amplify the damage further.
I am excited about Thorn’s catalyst because Thorn was my first exotic in D1 and loved it in PvP. It had been left in the dust until the recent range changes but this will make it very good in both pvp and pve!
I have always loved Thorn, it was my first exotic weapon. I always want to play with it in crucible but the range always fell short of the other hand cannons. So I think this is great.
I think that the thorn cat is dope not only for pvp, giving it way more consistancy with the stability and killing wind+ but also for the necrotic build in pve because of the overload it'll make clearing rooms easier and might make it worth a look over osteo striga
I've always really liked Thorn but it was just never strong enough or viable enough to compete against other meta HCs. Super excited to get the catalyst though and bring it back into some crucible matches and see if I can get in some good frags with it! The range and stability boost are so nice to finally have!
I am really enjoying the catalyst as the gun just feels so much better. the feeling of that extra range is just *CHEFS KISS* not to mention how stable it is.

I love Thorn's new catalyst! It reminds me so much of how Spare Rations felt when it first came out with The Reckoning.
I think the new thorn catalyst should be nerve a lot as it does so much damage.
I love that it feels nostalgic towards D1 as long as the enemy has low resil. I’m also really liking the new catalyst
Go Titans!
I like that the Thorn is finally getting some much needed love and a catalyst that actually helps the weapon on some of its weak points as well.
Hey that’s me 🤣🤣
My opinion of this new catalyst, I really like it, I like the idea of using the kinetic surges and just the handling all the way around.!
I love how good the catalyst makes it… as a titan main it makes me so happy! 12:31 use it often and I love the root of nightmares cosmetic
This catalyst just set the trials meta for this season. Like Jake said, teams of 3, tier 10 titans are going to be rampant AF!
I love the idea of the catalyst. I haven’t gotten all the kills needed to unlock it yet, but the added range will be game changing for it.
My thoughts on Thorn......
I've never used thorn before and never bothered to buy it, but the changes they have made and seeing all these reviews on it made me go get it alongside the catalyst. Also I am sad about the new changes though, because I main hunter and all of my builds only go up to Resilience #3 😔💔
So that means I will have to go play Titan and Warlock. Although I already play Titan on Trials, I was hoping this season I would have been able to play Hunter... since they made the Titan and Warlock super changes for a longer cool down. But overall pretty impressive what Thorn Can do now. I am looking forward to using it 🙂
So far, I've been thoroughly enjoying the Thorn catalyst. It feels like it's finally able to sit up with other top-tier 140 hand cannons.
I wonder if the Thorn Catalyst is trying to bring some reminiscence of when it was the most broken HC in D1. Feels like this will be a nostalgic season going into TFS.
Just finished the catalyst and it feels so much more stable on controller. The range will help it out in longer engagements as well. Great Catalyst!
Thorn was already good within range, now it's an absolute monster. Love how this will shake up the meta
I love how it makes Thorn such an absolute powerhouse in PVE. I love using it in PVE and it's my most used weapon this season.
Thorn has been my main for years and it finally gets a catalyst, I love how it will finally have a great place in the competitive world.
I think that the thorn cat is dope not only for pvp, giving it way more consistancy with the stability and killing wind+ but also for the necrotic build in pve because of the overload it'll make clearing rooms easier and might make it worth a look over osteo striga
Love that it doesn’t kick as bad as it used to. Range is nice as well
I've always really liked Thorn but it was just never strong enough or viable enough to compete against other meta HCs.
