Thanks Yuliya for the encouragement - I have an ugly concrete pad, to remove is expensive/disruptive so I put some raised planting tables for veggies, did a zinnia border on 1 side, and followed your no-dig method for another border w/annuals - it’s not ‘perfect’ but makes me smile 😊whenever I look out my back windows
100%! I saw my first one a little over an hour from my house but since they’re now spreading in Allegheny county, it won’t be long before we see them here… most people have no idea, especially that they need to check their vehicles before heading home! So sad 😢
About your driveway comment (which from what I’ve seen of it looks charming) - I think most of us as gardeners have some element we’d like to change but can’t due to budget or whatever. I live on 8 acres but the house is old and has a lot of quirky things on the property that are just not feasible or realistic to change. My theory is….make the rest of the yard so beautiful and interesting that no one notices the flaws 🪷🪻🌸😊
Hi Yuliya, I am so glad you showed the driveway and talked about the challenges you have with it. Thank you for encouraging those of us with the tiniest spaces to 'just garden,' that's truly the joy of it all. Btw, even if you do not like it, your driveway adds character to your garden spaces, and offers a place where the eye can rest. Thank you for sharing.
I think your home and garden is unique and beautiful! The seating area is just stunning. Personally, I love the driveway because it gives your space a sense of wonder as to what you will find around the bend. ❤
I just love your fish pond area. It seems so relaxing. I think that might be a turkey tail mushroom. I have gotten them as well. I find any mushrooms quite fascinating.
I always learn something new from listening to you. This time I am urged to try Mountain Mint. I never grew it because I was concerned it would spread aggressively so it is interesting to hear your experience differs. I am very inspired by your work. Thank you Yuliya for sharing all those beautiful spaces you design.
Great video, Yulia! Thanks for taking the second floor shots that really helped a lot! Your pond has matured beautifully. And I enjoyed seeing your big puppy with his summer clip. Wishing you and your husband a terrific weekend!💚
I like the driveway segmentation, it allows you to have more space to do layers and make different gardening zones. Though, I think if it had a different surface, like bricks, cobblestones or pavers, it would be a fantastic addition and actually add a lot of beauty. Your home is so beautiful and a beautiful driveway would be icing on the cake. But I’m sure that would be a hefty price.
Last winter I followed your advice and got under counter lights to start seeds. It truly brightened those dreary late winter/early spring days 💚 thanks for educating and inspiring us!
Catbirds are one of my favorite birds but I only have them in my garden in Spring and occasionally in the fall. Spotted Lantern fly is frightening as are all the invasive species that affect our flora.
Thanks for your advice to "just garden"! I was 67 when I bought my property and had been gardening on a city terrace for years. I was thrilled finally to be able to plant trees and shrubs. Would the logical thing to do have been to start with the hardscaping (including changing a massive problematic driveway) and to have put in a comprehensive irrigation system? Yes, but I was not getting any younger and I really wanted to get going with planting. Also, it was during the pandemic and it was difficult to find contractors or materials for major projects. So, maybe not the best approach in all circumstances, but as with so many things in life, if you wait for perfect conditions you may never get anything done. PS on the fish. We inherited a small ugly pond when we bought the property, probably about 2.5 feet deep. I had no idea how to care for the goldfish but they survived the winter just fine -- apparently went to the bottom of the pond, which did not freeze, and more or less hibernated. Our neighbor built a beautiful pond, so we gifted the fish to him and filled ours in.
I have a water lily called Aurora and it is so beautiful, I am very surprised at how many flowers it has produced! If you can find one I highly recommend it ❤️ It’s my first year with it and I hope to be able to overwinter it, I have an above ground trough pond.
Great tips 👍. I'm in CT and haven't seen that fly yet. Sounds scary. Btw, your complexion is gorgeous. I'm guessing with your job that you use a fair amount of sunscreen. Do you have a favorite brand? Thanks
Thank you for the layout drawing! I’ve been wondering about the layout too. I’d love a video of you walking down the driveway. It looks like you have pretty things on each side.
I just removed pycnanthemum muticum from a garden bed and put it in a more wild space because it was threatening to take over. On top of spreading, it will also self-sow if you don’t trim the seed heads. It’s a lovely plant, and the scent from the foliage is incredible, but it can be aggressive. The pollinators love it. I have heavy clay soil BTW, but it tended to form a mat on top of the soil.
After you moved out of sun early on, what is the glossy greet plant to your right ? Banana is to your left but wonder what that beautiful plant/shrub is to your right.
Oh boy dry shade is something I’m just learning about 🤣🤣🤣 I did not know how thirsty/ greedy LOL my trees were u til I just made a garden in them this year … I’m like I just watered that yesterday and it’s dry as a bone …
I'm on the shore in Maryland, not to jinx myself, I'll just say this yr they are everywhere at my brothers, on the western shore. I was shocked at how many, and how fast they are. The driveway, could you narrow it so it just gets wider at the doors, free up some space that way.?
Regular feeder goldfish are amazingly resilient in small outside ponds. I've read they can free solidly and live. I have what was sold as a plastic liner for a wood barrel half, sunk into the ground, as my small pond. At first, I ran an air pump year around but when the second one died I never replaced it. The fish seem to survive even when the ice covers the top for weeks. My experiences goes against everything I've read.
Could you do a discussion on buying plants online. I bought a rare Dogwood tree from online Nature Hills, NE. It arrived sick-looking with brown spots on every leaf; brown edges; and looked like they cut all branches. I've sent 2 rows of pictures as it is looking worse. They accused me of watering it overhead and that's what is wrong with it -- but it arrived this way. Now the tiny buds are black. Coli Hunter, the sales person, refuses to refund my $80. Thanks.
The driveway isnt that bad but it would annoy me too if it was my house... It would already be more "cute" with a gravel or bound sand surface i think. But that can be quite dirty and maybe expensive too
I will come and get you a drone shot. 😀 (As a certified drone pilot,as required for monetized TH-cam videos, I can request an airspace waiver)
How lovely of you to volunteer to do that, Erin!
I am counting on you! Woman of many talents 😁
You are the BEST Erin! 😊

In PA., the Spotted Lantern Fly is no joke. Very huge threat. Everyone in the region needs to be observant and proactive.

We’ve lost the battle here in Maryland. They are everywhere!

Love that attitude! Trying to adopt it regarding my space which has some aspects not to my liking but are not impossible to work around

😅😊😊
Yulia, I have learned so much from your channel. Your garden is beautiful including your driveway 😅
I just love your fish pond area. It seems so relaxing. I think that might be a turkey tail mushroom. I have gotten them as well. I find any mushrooms quite fascinating.

Love the calm space you showed! with the tree lights, the chairs and the stream of water behind it 🥰🥰

Hi Yulia! What a fun Q&A. Thank you! Love that you share your knowledge with all of us. 💚 Your gardens are beautiful and always so inspiring.
Would love another garden tour especially after seeing little clips of the beautiful dahlias an looked like delphinium from your windows😊
Last winter I followed your advice and got under counter lights to start seeds. It truly brightened those dreary late winter/early spring days 💚 thanks for educating and inspiring us!
Great Q&A lots of variety I hope you continue to do these videos. Thanks
Always love seeing your garden and listening to your passion for gardening. My favourite gardening videos. Thanks for sharing with us. 👍❤️😊

Always love to hear about your garden journey. Thank you for sharing it.❤
Oh, the baby birds are so cute!
Thanks again, Yuliya, for sharing so much of your knowledge. I learn a lot from every video. 😊

Great advice at the end, to work with what you have and don't wait for the perfect garden. Beautiful lot you have! I also want all the plants! :)
Great video 👏👏👏😊 it was good to see the drawing. Now I have a better perspective of how it looks. 🌸🌿☺
Great tips 👍. I'm in CT and haven't seen that fly yet. Sounds scary.

That is so interesting! Neither muticum nor tenuifolium go far on my garden 🤷♀️😊
Thank you Yuliya. 🌺💚🙃

Maybe add raised beds along driveway to reduce its impact
Nice and subscribed 😊
You are always so sweet and natural❤
I purchased local spotted lantern fly honey here in South Jersey. It has a smoky taste and I use it on roasted veggies. When you get lemons?…

Do you have a dry shade video?
Not yet! But I can make one!
So whereabout in relation to the front of your house are your oriental lilies planted?
Have you ever thought about moving to have more land ?
❤😇🥰 TIP. BANAAN in blender tot saus in gieter 5 liter water bij??? Binnen planten😮😊❤

Ganderns em bom.
Could you not use part of your driveway for planted pots?
