Thanks for the explanation but it possibly that graded beds may be divided in two such as Normal graded bedding and Reverse graded bedding. On one hand, the normal graded bedding can be described as the bedding in which finer particles are upwards and coarse particles at the bottom. Obviously, the reverse graded bedding occurs when coarse particles are upwards and the finer one at the bottom. The ultimate reason is that, finer particles are or would be deposited when the transporting medium such as water(the main transporting medium) and air have the least/lowest transporting energy(kinetic energy) to carry along coarser particles. Therefore, coarser particles would be deposited with the Highest Kinetic energy(transporting energy). To conclude, cross bedding help us to identify conditions that prevailed in the deposition of the sediments. Thanks!
