    If anyone was wondering, "Axion" is actually the real name of a particle (like electrons, Higgs bosons, etc.). Physicist are not sure if it exists, but if it does, it may be the particle that composes dark matter.

    it's much easier to flick a switch rather than having to pull out a knob especially when you're holding a pick. the switch is just much faster. Plus you can knock out the level of your volume or your tone accidentally if you pull on it so why is that even an argument?

    • @quixutica
      @quixutica 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yep, I absolutely despise knob splitting. I like that you can change it pretty much on the fly, without accidentally messing up the volume/tone knob with a switch

    • @JorisGriffioen
      @JorisGriffioen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's also much easier to accidentally hit a switch and a knob is way easier to "exit" split mode. Both have up and downsides, a push-push knob is the bast option but they are prone to breaking...

    • @psykoklown874
      @psykoklown874 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Push/push pots are another option, but are rarely seen for some reason.

    • @WutipongWongsakuldej
      @WutipongWongsakuldej 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure push-push pot are more expensive.

    • @psykoklown874
      @psykoklown874 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WutipongWongsakuldej True, but if they were more popular the price would most likely come down a bit. IMO, they just make more sense from an ease of use standpoint than push/pull if you don't want a separate switch. I only found out about them because a local luthier uses them in his guitars.

    I swear, this is the most beautiful solo I've heard from Lee lately. His playing has been great, but this has so much emotion to it, just awesome. These are my type of progressions, just beautiful.

  • @sebsthexeno9460
    @sebsthexeno9460 5 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    I much prefer having a separate switch for the coil tap on my instruments. I think having to completely interrupt the momentum of your playing by pulling a knob feels unnatural and it sucks. I’m glad Ibanez have come up with a nice solution for people like me who prefer not having a push/pull system. Really I think the most elegant solution is to have a push/push system like on John Petrucci’s Majesty series, as I think that feels way more natural and still gives you a tone knob in case you want it.

    • @EpicStuffMan1000
      @EpicStuffMan1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @DroneCorpse

      Pulling a knob also increases the likelihood of knocking the tone/volume around. It's objectively better to have a switch.

      But the 5-way on some of the HH guitars, everything from my Fujigen Sabre to my rather lacklustre 7-string gio has had these at one point with slightly different combinations and they have the brilliant feature that one flail gets you back to the bridge humbucker.
      Ideally a 5 way where everything but the bridge humbucker position does something different with a prod of the "tap" switch

    The toggle switch to split the humbucker coils could be replaced with an On Off On - Dual Pole Dual Throw switch (DPDT) . As it has three modes , ground signals could be selected to split the neck pick up and leave the bridge humbucker in series or the other way the bridge split and neck humbucker in series . In the Off position both humbuckers would be in series as normal , as no signals would go to ground out one of the humbucker coils . If a 3 mode pull push switch locked in the off position in the middle , then this could have the same result without the need to have a switch spoiling the finish of a guitar and may be easy to select whilst adjusting the volume.

    Lee, the push-pull pot on the fanned fret changes the "voicing" of the fishman fluence, essentially bringing the mids forward in (i think) voicing 2 (pull out). so yeah, it's not a split or a tap (2 different things btw), the fluence has 2 voicings the push-pull pot changes between them. the only music instrument store within a two hour drive of me just got that particular Ibanez multiscale in stock. i played it for 20 minutes and put a deposit down immediately. the multiscale's BROAD tone profile hooked me immediately. yes i know i'll never get a clean tone out of it, fishman fluence are HOT even for active pickups, that's not why i bought it.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI

    I've never liked having push/pull knobs. I like having a dedicated switch for coil tapping. I know that's the ONLY thing that switch does. Makes it quicker for a slow thinker like myself. It's also more natural feeling (since I'm used to having a similar switch for pickups) rather than trying to push or pull some knob that ALSO controls my tone and/or volume. I'm really not sure why anyone would prefer the push/pull/multi purpose knobs.

    Hi Andertons! I loved this video! However, I was hoping to see the new S-series Ibanez in this video too. (as you mentioned) Ibanez have extended their S-series this year and they have added Fishman Fluences to these as well - apparently you CAN coil-split these. Could you guys give us a taste of how coil-splitting different voiced Fishman Fluences sound like? It seems to me that the S-series this year could be incredibly versatile; ranging from skull-splitting humbucking metal to creamy single-coil blues. However, so far, this is only theoretical (as I have not seen anyone do it). Hope my request makes sense! Bye now.

    Some people prefer the switch instead of push/ pull because the pulled knob can interfere with ur whammy bar ... is what I think

    Lately i have been seeing some very aesthetically appealing guitars from a Washburn brand called Oscar Schmidt. Are you familiar with the brand, and if possible could you review them?
    Edit:at least i believe it is a Washburn brand

      Yup. I have an Ibanez SR 1305PD lovely open grain on the neck. Early Warwick basses were the first necks I saw with that texture.

    Those heavenly chords Chappers starts to play at around 5:47. The tone and everything is really reminding me of a song that's been used in movies and things. I thought it was maybe XX or something. It's driving me mad now. The tone is spot on. Anyone out there know what I'm on about?

    It has a switch instead of a knob because its an archtop and the switch location is right on the shoulder of the curve. Recessed knob is more work and monies i suppose

    Um yeah Capt. EMG are splittable. The TW ones are. The split side is a stacked single coil to keep it noiseless. Check the manual for the EMG TW ones there’s a diagram of the coils.
