I too am a descendant of James K Ashley. It is amazing that such a deadly disaster is largely unknown. I have copies of letters written by James K Ashley to his son, my great great grandfather. Such an interesting story. Gene has opened up an important part of civil war history.

Harlan V was J K Ashley’s son to whom he wrote the letters I have, Harlan was my great grandfather, not great great grandfather as stated above.
