You definitely don’t want to run thinner oil on the 4.6L 3V used in the Mustang. Thicker oil will affect oil flow through the tiny passageways to the cam phasers. Using thicker oil in this engine is a good way to get cam phaser issues which they are known to have and the problem is most often caused by using the wrong oil and/or neglecting oil changes. I would run only motorcraft 5w20 and the motorcraft filter on that car.
