  • Vocals, dance and santour by Kelareh Kabiri, video and arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is a 19th century song by the famed composer Sheydā, whose tasnifs are some of the most well known in Classical Persian Music--the court music of Iran that serves as the country's national and classical repertoire. Tasnifs are lyrics based music centered around one modal scale, called gushe, in Persian. Sheydā's music is centered around romantic themes of love and passion, and legend attributes the lyrics of this song to Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, the monarch of the time, although these claims have never been seriously verified, and are more than likely a myth. The musical mode of this piece is Shushtar, which is a "gushe" (subdivision) of the larger dastgāh (grouping of modes) of Homayoun. The dancing is a typical example of Persian dancing, one of the many styles of dancing in Iran, characterised by flowing and flowery movements centered around the use of the arms.
    English translation:
The curl of your hair is one with the moon's curve,
As long as our moons won't align, our fate is to suffer grief,
Who knocks at the door? My heart trembles,
They strike the door with the knocker. My heart trembles,
Your eyes are wine that make me drunk, my condition is ill,
My condition is your doing, your eyes are made of wine,
Oh angel, come to my side, do not sadden my tired spirit,
Do not leave my side, do not become my soul's ennemy, let me sacrifice myself for you,

Farya I saw your 40nminutes video about Turkish, Iranian, Arabic music. Your content, your music, the visuals are all excellent like they are produced from a big company or something. Santur is also used in Greek music mainly in songs that come from Asia minor.

the best musical channel (outside of spiritual) in the web, imho. What differentiate it from others is deepness, concentration, unbelievable beauty of visual art and, I guess, historicity and relish of authentic, existing, natural culture of different nations.
Thank you so much, Farya Faraji!

You both killed it on this, love the little strides you make in music production just as much as your experimentation in the video accompaniment. I'm here for the music and musicology primarily, but any progress is appreciated. The dance is also a very, very wonderful dressing on such a beautifully performed piece of music.

Amazing performance and song! Just as epic as your Byzantine tracks Farya why don't you try to sing a real Byzantine song On the Grass of a meadow? It was sung by Christodolos Halaris but it would sound fantastic if you're the one singing it

    • @faryafaraji
      @faryafaraji  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thanks alot! Unfortunately though I wouldn't risk covering that one, since it's not an actual Byzantine song-we have no written down secular music scores left except for a polychronion from the 15th century, but it's not exactly "secular" in the sense of songs you would have heard informally in taverns or in parties, those are gone. Halaris' music is historically accurate compositions, but they're his original compositions nonetheless, so I might risk copyright shenanigans by covering it.

@@faryafaraji awwwww that would have been epic but can you make a song about the fall of Aleppo at the hands of Nicephoros Phocas? It's an epic tale of history where both Arabs and Romans fought hard but we can also call that revenge of the Romans given the Romans are on the offensive

...and if you ever run out of traditional songs (hurrrhuurrr... jk...) how about "classifying" Iranian 60s psychedelic songs like Raks Raks Raks by Moha Jamin or Akhm Nakon by Kourosh Yaghmaei 👈👈😍 I wonder if it's even possible to make them into a "Bard Version" since they are so percussion and bass heavy.
