I have to disagree that rollers come from tipplers. Rollers we're being developed long before the tipplers. The rollers come from crossing the west of England flying tumblers and some other breeds. That's why rollers come in all the colours and markings that come in west tumblers and many still carry the grouse leg's.
English tipplers come from crossing the then Manchester tippers with the west tumbler and Cumulet to give them higher and longer flying. That information came from my late grandad who told me he use to sell and swap his wests with the Manchester tippler fancyers and Birmingham lad's as a teenager back in the 1920-30s ! I'm not saying that he was the only one doing that by a long chalk as many men ans boys done that at the time. The tippler fancyers wanted the west that flu long and high but seldom if ever tumbled and the Birmingham lad's wanted the west that tumbled more than required but didn't fly too long cos they got tired quickly.
