I have a query why we use ' be form + to v1' and what the means is of it.
What is the difference between these to sentences:-
1. I am to complete my work.
2. I have to complete my work.
Why do we use ' be form + v1"?
Dear student,
I am to complete my work. ( Here the speaker 'I' shows only his intention to complete his work.
But
In the next sentence 'I have to complete my work' the speaker 'I' shows either his determination to complete his work or his obligation to complete his work.
In Hindi
1. I am to complete my work.
मुझे अपना कार्य पूर्ण करना है।( Only intention or plan)
2. मुझे अपना कार्य अवश्य ही पूर्ण करना है। or
मुझे अपना काम पूरा करना पड़ता है। ( Determination or obligation)

Actually
To + have+ past participle (v³) = perfect infinitive can't be used with linking verbs (is, am, are)
But
Perfect infinitive can be used with 'was' or 'were'
For example
The plane was to have landed.
( The plane was scheduled to land but not landed ) shows unfulfilled arrangement for plan.
