- RERECORDED IN THE VOICE OF PURNIMA RAINA WITH ALL NECESSARY CORRECTIONS. PURNIMA JI IS A NEW TALENT IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO HAS LOT OF POTENTIAL TO GROW IN THE FIELD OF MUSIC AND
LYRICS HAVE BEEN PENNED DOWN BY PT. VISHNU RAZDAN WHO REMAINED UNKNOWN FOR US AND WE RECENTLY CAME TO KNOW ABOUT HIM THROUGH RUDRAKSHA DHAR AND FINALLY ALL DETAILS WERE PROVIDED BY SHRI ROOP KRISHEN BHAT , WHO HAS EXTENSIVELY WORKED ON HIS LEELA'S AND OTHER SONGS TOO.
BRIEF LIFE HISTORY OF PT VISHNU RAZDAN JI IS AS UNDER.
Pt. Vishnu Razdan also known as Vishnu Joo Razdan and Vishnu Dass was born at village Bugam in district Kulgam of Jammu and Kashmir in 1890.It is said that his grandfather Pt Gopal Razdan was originally a resident of Safakadal in Srinagar who was posted in Anantnag District and was married in a landlord family of Bugam.Gopal Razdan’s mother was not happy with this marriage and started harassing the young bride from day one.Shortly after marriage the bride invoked the wrath of her mother-in-law and was forced to desert her inlaws house and returned to her parents at Bugam but not before she gave birth to a son named Narayan Razdan.Narayan was not allowd to accompany his mother. After attaining age of 16 Narayan went in search of his motherand stayed back with his mother in Bugam. Ultimately Pt Gopal Razdan also returned to the village. Narayan was educated and took up job of Patwari. He was married at Vessu village of Anantnag District and had three sons. Pt Vishnu Razdan was the youngest of them all.
Pt Vishnu Razdan had no formal educational was imparted religious education at home. He studied Geeta, Ramayan, Mahabharta and the Vedas. He also read Karima considered to be Bible of those times. He was married in his early age in a nearby village in a landlord family and had four daughters from this narriage. Al;though he fulfilled all desired domestic duties however, he used most of the time in the company of of saints and sages. It is said that one or the other pious persons woulod always be there as a guest at his residence. He was a great host. Pt Vishnu Razdan was a strict vegetarian and stayed so throughout in his life. Two of his famous poens “Himsaphal” and “Brahmin Kanya” are exclusively devoted to exposing several rituals related to carnivorous habits of Kashmiri Hindus of those days.
Being born in a landlord family he inherited and mastered the intricacies of agriculture and proved to be a great farmer. It is said that people from far off places would throng to his residence for seeking advice on different farming and agricultural aspects. Despite of all the odds Razdan involved himself in farming and preferred this occupation over a Govt. job which he would have inherited from his father.
An unfortunate part regarding his contribution is that Pt Vishnu Razdan would not pen down his poetry himself. He would render it to his friends, relative’s neighbours etc who would in turn listen ,remember, memorise and write it down. This has resulted in loss of a mojor portion of his works. Most of the work was narrated by Razdan to Shri Ragunath Ji of Zainapora ,Shopion, who worked as an accountant with a wholesaler of Bugam village, who wrote it down.It is very recently that an anthology of his poetry was compiled by his grandson Dr Roop Krishen Bhat and his wife Raji Bhat and printed under the title “Leela Sagar” and published by Kashmir Cultural Trust, Jammu in the year 2000.
As per the contents of this anthology and material available through other sources Vishnu Razdan’s poetry can be divided into four major forms:
1. Leela or Bhajans
2. Long Poems (Masnavi)
3. Vatsun or Songs
4. Humerous Poetry
Pt Vishnu Razdan’s poetry is woven around two traditions of Kashmiri Literature. One follows the traditions as laid by Rasool Mir or Haba Khatoon and the other one representing the devotional poetry or the love for God as laid down by as laid by Lad Ded, Pt. Parmanand and Pt Krishan Joo Razdan. This poetry has evolved during early phase of his life. However ,more and more he moved towards spirituality the form and content of his poetry also matched his thought process and love for God became predominant and the central massage of his poetry.
In the first phase of his oetry he is a poet od Vatsun although his poems are very close to Ghazals. Love appears to be the main aim of his life.
The devotional poetry seems to suit him very well that is why even in his romantic poetry he seems to be moving towards God. His bhakti poetry has two facets
1. The colour of Nirgun
2. Sugun or Devotion
By choosing the path of Nirgun he joins the class of Lal Ded and Roopa Bhawani amongst Kashmiri poets.
Both through his deeds and writings Pt Razdan emerges a Karamyogi with strong personality,a saint by nature,a staunch reformer and a illuminary of philosophy of nirvana and mukti.

Thanks to Raviji for providing an opportunity to hear several those singers whom I have had never heard earlier. Purnima ji has beautifully sung this popular bhajan by Sh. Veshan Razdan.
She is an excellent singer
Matarani bless her.
The planet has become so beautiful
and worth living due to ceaseless
work of our great ancestors. Now
it is our turn to make a contribution
for betterment of humanity.Excellent.
This was written by the grandfather of my grandmother, Shri Vishnu Razdan. Very bad that he doesn't get enough credit. Great bhajan. May his soul rest in peace.
God lives neither in baikunth nor in the minds of yogis, but where devotees sing of Him.Nicely prayed and sung.God bless you my daughter.Nice.

Felt mesmerised, melodious voice , above all the clarity in words .
The heaped up wisdom of the ages
lies peacefully buried in a book and it
can be yours if you have the will
to pick it up .( Noble Thoughts )
Traditional song sung nicely.persistance pays you.Consistant efforts not only soften the hardest of soul and heart, they

The more we study the more
We discover our Ignorance.
Unless we destroy the weeds,
the beautiful crops will not grow.
