  • I made this video to clear up any confusion as to where exactly the scenes in Tales of the Okefenokee were situated in terms of their corresponding locations in Monster Plantation/Monster Mansion. Since the concrete boat trough has remained virtually unaltered for its entire 53-year lifespan, pinpointing the locations of the Krofft-era Okee scenes isn't exactly a difficult task, but still something I know would be of some help to a lot of people who happen to be interested in the old ride.
    For further clarification, have a look at this floor plan drawn by Tim Hollis: jumpshare.com/...

    Hold up fellas, I made a mistake. At 2:09, the caption incorrectly reads that the entrance to the arsenal cave was to the left of the crows, which would imply that the crows were on the right side of the trough. The crows were actually seen to the left side of the trough for each of their three appearances. I knew I would end up noticing some kind of stupid "left/right" wording mistake after it was too late.

    • @practicalpisces
      @practicalpisces 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought you meant that the crows were where the chili stand is and the cave started where the pie eating contest is. That would still be to the left of the figures since, from their prospective, the cave mouth is on their left (wing) hand side.

      Tim Hollis would be the best guy to speak with about Okefenokee matters (there's actually an interview between him and Kevin Perjurer of Defunctland regarding the ride on TH-cam already), although I can answer any questions you have about it as best as I can. I was born in 2001, so obviously I never actually had the chance to ride the Okefenokee (I've never even been to SFOG, in fact, despite my fascination with its early history), although I wouldn't be surprised if I'm quite literally the most knowledgable person on the ride outside of anyone who's actually ridden it.

    th-cam.com/video/qq618CqX3fY/w-d-xo.html I noticed that the gargoyle-looking monsters in the marsh are good reference points for scene transitions. The first one starts the Christmas Burrow scene and the second one lines up with the Mill Pond Frog scene towards the end.

    • @okefenokee_rabbit
      @okefenokee_rabbit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The lightning bolt prop was most likely a leftover from the '67 version, actually. I think you can even see it for a split second in the 1967 footage during the first shot of the boats travelling through the lift hill area. It's on the far-left of the screen and near the top, and I seriously doubt that it's just film grain because its location and shape are spot-on. Also, while you can't see the lightning bolt itself in the sample reel, you _can_ see what is obviously one its illuminated flashes lighting up the scene for a very brief moment.

    • @StorybookAmusement
      @StorybookAmusement ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to share a little info about the lightning bolt. Speelunker's Cave had a similar effect, or at least I assume Okee's was similar. This video (th-cam.com/video/vYlkm3Rx7Bo/w-d-xo.html) of Spee Cave shows the light, which may be give you an idea of what the Okee lightning bolt *may* have looked like.
      I cannot confirm whether the effects were identical. It's just my speculation that they were at least similar.

    Love the audio mix! Is this accurate to the ride when it had its run, especially Save The Rabbit starting before the carrots, the near drowning out of Mr. Fox's laugh, the chanting of “BEWARE! BEWARE! GO BACK! GO BACK!” beginning a bit early, Soaking in Shame starting in the burrow, and Okefenokee Waltz starting at the frog pond sequence?

    • @okefenokee_rabbit

      The problem with trying to overlay a Monster Plantation POV with the audio of a regular Okee ride-through is that both rides are different lengths, despite sharing the same trough layout. The current of the water in Monster is considerably slower than it was in the Okefenokee, so Monster's boats naturally take longer to move through the attraction (five minutes compared to the Okee's four minutes). In order to make this video, I had to arrange a specialized Okefenokee audio mix from scratch in order for everything to match up correctly.

    • @aromncoronado2005
      @aromncoronado2005 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never knew that. I thought it was the same. Never knew the ride length was different. But that is very interesting. In that case how much would a POV need to be sped up? 50%?

    Out of curiosity (if this channel is even active anymore) what is your thoughts on the revamped speelunker cave ride at SFOT?

    • @okefenokee_rabbit
      @okefenokee_rabbit  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've only seen a single ride-through, which was immediately after the ride opened, and unless they've changed it up since then, then I unfortunately can't hold the ride in very high regard.
      It's mostly just a cheap, generic pirate-themed attraction with almost nothing remarkable going on, and when the Spee-Lunkers actually do appear, they look hideous and are portrayed in an incredibly campy manner that you would expect to see in some awful 1980s Saturday morning cartoon. It couldn't be further from the mysterious and surreal aura of the original 1960s Spees.
      Just not good, all around. A real shame considering that I had fairly high hopes for the ride.

    • @SlushysSecret
      @SlushysSecret 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@okefenokee_rabbit yea I do have to agree on that, the music that plays during the speelunker part of the ride was unnecessary, and the props and effects aren’t that good since this ride does actually go through some vandalism.
      And while they did add some more effects to the speelunkers after the ride got flooded once again, the ride is still just another joke, and made with no quality to other modern six flags dark rides.

      There's no full POV of the Okefenokee, unfortunately, so that's barely a possibility at the moment. The most suitable thing we have for use in a side-to-side comparison video is my recreated ride-through from September of last year, which wouldn't work well for a video like that, as only a few clips were actually filmed from the boat.
