“I feel like there’s a lot of companions that are not gonna be down for the Dark Urge” well you killed Lae’zel and Gale who are both much more accepting than the two you have left to get, Wyll and Karlach. You basically have Shart, Astarion and Minthara left. 😂

I was so sad because alfira is my bae and once I finally figured out how to save her then Quill came along, the dragonborn bard, and she would kind of flirts with dirge if he's a dragonborn, and I'm thinking hold up durge we got a new bae, few seconds later she's dead, I really want larian studios to put in the option to resist dark urge in that moment so badly.
I used a work around before where you knock her out in the druid's grove and if you do it right a dragonborn bard takes her place and you kill her instead. Of all the horrid stuff Durge can do, Alfira is too far lol
Alfira can be a permanent companion since the last patch. You must be a Dark Urge to recruit her and do some shenanigans to recruit her, but it is possible. Not sure if is worth doing it, I assume content for her as companion is very scarce (if any)
@@cinnamonsparrowdesigns Lol, that scene killed my first dark urge run. I managed to save her in the next one by doing just that, but it felt convoluted and out of place. In any case, now you can recruit her as companion in a durge playthrough, search how in youtube if you are interested.
Going ‘hard Durge’ is tough without Lae’zel, Astarion, Gale, Shart, and Minthsra. But…you can always tap Hirelings from Withers, even if it’s a gimped story experience and basically no romance options.
I had Minthara and a random hireling in my run. I killed everyone else. Not sure why I killed Astarion tho... Minthy was so ride or die for all my shenanigans it was great.
Playing a Dark Urge has been my past 3 playthroughs, as a bard, storm sorcerer and now an Oathbreaker paladin. It has been the most fun because of the story lore that is behind it, that you feel more personally connected to the big bads, as opposed to random Tav. You can indulge in some depraved things, have special dialogue and the Astarion romance is the best part. They shared a writer so have a lot more dialogue with one another. I can't stop playing as it, they're by far my favorite.
Fun tip: you can get all those minds and take him with you when you descend into the Illithid colony at the very end of act 2 and "read" them in the mind reader device. Is kind of useless since none of those have anything relevant or useful, but you can do it.
I recently completely two Durge runs, one where I embraced it and went all evil and one where I resisted it. The totally evil one. Omg it was so different than any of my other playthroughs.
The first fight against the intellect devourers post-prologue is unironically one of the hardest fights in Tactician/Honour Mode, bc you're still only level 1 with probably around 10HP, have only reached one potential companion, they gave them a ranged attack that can kill you in 2 hits, and there's 3 of them. If you were level 2 or had a 2nd companion it would be a completely different encounter. I played on Balanced mostly but after the first playthrough 80% of the game started to feel almost boringly easy. I played a Duergar Gloom Stalker/Assassin Dark Urge who absolutely annihilates things in his guaranteed first turn and anything he doesnt Minthara takes cares of. All the fights that I remembered being kinda challenging I just sleepwalked through. The encounter with Orin was hilarious, she never got a turn and died in 3 stabs. I did the evil route and the same thing happened in the following encounter, killed two fully geared up level 12 characters in my PCs first turn. A couple times I had my Dark Urge PC and Minthara separate from the rest of the party and did entire battles with just the two of them and they went exactly the same lmao. I had also started an Oathbreaker Lockadin Death Knight type playthrough on Balanced before switching to Tactician and that's just as bad but for different reasons. No guaranteed first turn but even more burst damage. In these two playthroughs I was never in danger of a TPK after like level 4 or 5 and the only characters in any danger are like Astarion, Gale or Wyll (with their base classes) getting focused down by a bunch of hard-hitting enemies at once. So, yeah, once youre pretty familiar with the mechanics it'd probably be more fun to try Tactician or Honour Mode. After the first fight you mostly just need to watch out for enemies with broken legendary actions.
@@THECABBAGEMAN19 thanks! I’m really enjoying it so far. Trying not to rush through but I think I’m getting towards the end of act 1 in about 20 hours so might be a little bit 😂
I love watching people play dark urge, a playthrough that will challenge you throughout gameplay with evil choices and murder, and *on top of that* their head cannon is also like, “no I must be *more* evil and do *more* killing than what is baked into the dark urge” 😂
I do need to get round to doing a dark urge playthrough, just because on a normal play even if I try do be bad I can't. It's amazing really that they put this in, as i'm sure it's only because they know most people struggle to be evil even if they want to, but this just encourages you to do it

Since the last patch you can now permanently recruit that bard. And you are right, the durge is responsible for everything that happened, so in a sense it should be the canonical Tav.
If you played back in Early Access, the Dark Urge was actually intended to be the actual story in general, aka all the playable characters were Bhaalspawn. It was sectioned off into its own origin, however, because many players did not like being forced into its scenarios. So as far as I'm concerned, it's the "real" story.
I still need to do my Dark Urge playthrough! I know what that circle means from the books & the other Baldur Gates games! I hope the storyline is EPIC!
You should play the dark urge resisting his urges. IMO that is the most canon story consider what happens in BG1 and BG2. At least you learn most backstory about those games that way.
First time I've ever watched any 'Baldur's Gate 3' content, looks pretty good too. Fun Fact - Many, many years ago I worked as a "Games Tester" (best damn job I ever had!) and the gaming company I worked for (Runecraft) were doing the conversion of the original "Baldur's Gate" R.P.G game, from the P.C onto PS1. On the PS1 during development it was on 3 discs, due to massive size of the game, and the memory limitations of the PS1. Sadly however, after 2+ years of development it got canned, this was due to missing too many 'final' deadlines (and still being too buggy). Initially I didn't like the game as RPG's were never my thing, but after 2+ years of working on the game, well I'd grown to be quite fond of it... and it was painful (for all involved) when it never got to be released😢. Great vid! Amusing, and it was good to see the game in action it certainly brought back some memories of the original game.😊
After over 3000 hours in BG3, I decided to take a break, until patch 8.. And meanwhile, I returned to Divinity Original Sin 2, since I can't find new game that I like, and Larian's products are just amazing! I might even go back further, after finishing DOS2, and start DOS1 campaign! I actually love Divine Divinity too, their first game ever, even then, their game environment was the most reactive for that time!
