I've got some truly knarly pics of my 'ugly phase' to now, I'm only 1yr 8mo in (and white) so have a load of 'wispy ends'. Is this still normal at this stage? 3:40 is a very similar hair type, but never insta-locked
Crocheting isn't ALWAYS "instant dreadlocks"...especially when you're having to do it with your own two hands. When I first started mine, I was crocheting on it for about a week (an hour or so each day) and I STILL couldn't get it all ,so there was lots of completely loose hair(especially toward the back)...So I have some locs that formed on their own. Guess that means mine are partially free-form.

i use the dolly locks "tightening" spray, i dont know or care if it actually tightens but i use it for the NAG CHAMPA SCENT. cant beat it

If you're white and want to freeform you should really consider starting from a buzz. That way your locs mature sooner. I feel like there's this obsession with length when it comes to having dreadlocks.
