The nx 300 hybrid uses regular gas as opposed to premium gas required on the non hybrid model, which is a big plus for me. Also, the hybrid provides plenty of power, with great fuel economy. We have the atomic silver model with black interior and love the premium look and feel of this car. It rides nice and is very comfortable. The optional tri led headlights provide plenty of light with a very cool futuristic look that works well with the sharp overall styling of the nx. The mid cycle refresh also provides nice interior refinements over last years model.
That Blue NX in the thumbnail is all kinds of gorgeous. The other cars in comparison look really bad. Especially that qx50. At the end of the day reliability is king when it comes to cars and to have a car that looks like this and is the most reliable it really cant be beat.
I have a brand new Lexus GS350 F Sport which is two classes up compared to this, but I love the dash inside this car. That tilted watch is a nice touch. Mine is flush with the console.
We bought the NX300h e-four executive line, 2020 model with CarPlay and AndroidAuto. Awesome car. I live in Germany and I wouldn’t trade for any German car, Volvo or Italian or Range Rover crab car.
about to pull the trigger on getting a 2019 nx. relability is the most important thing and my wife's rx is close to 200000 miles. So unless our soon to be ours nx starts experiencing reliability issues, lexus it is for us.
This is an outstanding Review and Comparison. I have owned three Lexus RX350 is past years but not currently. These were outstanding vehicles. However, I think Lexus has dropped the ball on their current RX and NX. The NX is Too Narrow a vehicle, The Media system is too compromised, It is also too sluggish and the quiet and comfort does not meet expectations. I would personally choose the Acura RDX over the NX even though Lexus has a more premium reputation.
Excellent review Alex. Still relevant today and super informative. I think the strengths of the NX are its hybrid option, Lexus resale value, and reliability-which is a lot of positives. But my heart goes to the GLC or the Alfa Stelvio. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of GLCs on the road. It’ll be a great buy in the used market in a couple of years.
I have the adaptive suspension on the NX300 and it handles very well. It’s also very quiet on the f sport model came from Mercedes c400. NX 300 brake on the normal mode is not as responsive as in the sport mode, personally I think the brake should be programmed as responsive as in the sport mode. One of the best looking suv in the market, very sporty inside as well if chose with the red interior with red stitching.
2019 RDX will blow this thing out of the water. You just wait and watch for the comparison tests to come in. I would personally take an xC60 over anything else in the segment.
Because they are ridiculously reliable. The crush all other brands on Consumer Reports and JD Powers reliability ratings. Nice to buy a pricey vehicle you likely won't have issues with.
Lincoln MKC is a strong competitor. With the 2019 refresh it will bring new look to an already nice vehicle. Power is strong and materials are top notch.
Ying Huang it is no more expensive unless you go Black Label. For that, you are getting service features that Lexus doesn’t offer so not really price comparable. A nicely equipped Reserve level will list at about 45k. On par with NX.
As a ex-nx200t fsport owner, i didnt like turbo lag. Some said there is very little or no lag, but i experienced lag every time i stepped on it. Now i traded it and got lc500 and love natural v8 it has.
Wow, what an upgrade to go from an NX 200t to an LC 500! :o But yeah I agree, the NX has some turbo lag. I had one as a loaner and bombed up an on-ramp. Pretty noticeable lag.
Just an FYI your opening sound signature that appears with your logo at the beginning of each video is way way low in volume always. Maybe bring it up a bit?
Great review Alex. Customers shopping the Lexus really aren't interested in performance and handling. They just want an inexpensive, nimble, visually luxurious SUV that gets great gas milage and rock solid reliability. Lexus knows how to market that customer, and there are many of them. Only the Infiniti and Acura can compete. The European cars are much more expensive, expensive to repair, and a lot less reliable. I drove most of the cars in this review, and decided these little SUVs weren't for me.. Hands down the most impressive one was the GLC300/43.. Which vehicles would you own for the next 10 years? Not a mercedes or volvo!
I love how this Lexus looks in F sport trim. The Lexus Isn't old at all... the rest just got completely updated very recently. The Acura is so new it's not on sale yet. So I think you should have left the comparison test part for the next generation NX. Can't really compare a current generation model to next generation models like you did at the end. For this to be the best selling car in its class Lexus is differently doing something right I think it's the best value in its class.
Would like to have seen more comparison with the Audi Q5 which I consider the best all around vehicle in this segment with perhaps the BMW X3. Don't care for the styling on the Lexus models.
Alex, whenever comparing fuel economy I would like to see reference to regular vs. premium gas, please. As to Lexus NX design I would give them B for outside and B- for console.
You seem to be saying the Volvo XC60 better but more expensive. 2 questions. How’s the Volvo’s reliability and how does the NX stack up against the Volvo XC40?
Not gonna lie, they are pretty close. I had a 2015 SE for a while before trading for my IS 300. The NX is stiffer than say, an RX, but not as stiff as an IS. I think the Camry was less comfortable overall, but hard to say without driving both back to back.
Hi, can you please do a review of the 2018 RX f sport. Really liked ur review 2 years ago but now there is new standards and the new F sport can you give some new opinions?
JD Power highly regards the reliability of Lexus SUVs. While I admire their attempts to think outside of the styling box, they don't hit the mark IMO. And that means a lot.
Like he pointed out all the rest have newer models out so it makes sense they'll handle better with slightly better interiors. Despite they all have new models out i can bet before the year runs out the NX will probably be the best seller like it did last year even with a new Glc in place. The Bmw x3 isn't even doing well in sales, let's see how the new model performs for 2018. By the time Lexus brings out a new gen NX it'll be ahead of the pack in luxury and features again plus the ever dependable reliability.
Samson Okoro just bc they are newer doesn't mean they have better interiors, a car's interior needs to be good even if its 2 gens behind the competition, take the s60 for example.
If you prioritize comfort, reliability and interior quality you can't go wrong with Lexus, however if you care about anything else the NX is really at the low end. It's literally as slow as a CX-5 and doesn't even get better fuel economy than the German competitors. I don't get how Lexus continues to shamelessly roll out crappy powertrains because their new cars actually look pretty decent in my opinion. And the sad thing is, Toyota engines are just fine, they are just not putting the effort into it. Remember cars like Supra I6 and when their 3.5L V6 used to be competitive, and it's like they just stopped caring for years.
I seriously considered this vehicle but I test drove it and decided Lexus in general isn't for me anymore. I do really like my IS250 but the tech is lacking and I wanted to get something a little bigger. The tech, infotainment, and overall styling just feels dated. The quality is of course, excellent, but the materials and style feels a little lacking. I could have forgiven some of that if it drove well but it just didn't feel good to drive. The Volvo XC40 is the way I'm going to go.
Was going to test drive one tomorrow, but after this review and seeing that the Cabin noise is 73 Db rating, and it's ride comfort low rating, what's the point of buying a lexus, if it rides like an average brand, etc. ? Cargo area way too small for it's overall size.. sure, give 2" less leg room (cause it has alot) and allow larger cargo hold.. it's a suv/cuv, so cargo area is a must.. it's only 17 cu f. ? or is its this small cause it's the hybrid ? how much does regular model have ? ... cabin noise is key criteria for my next car.. talking on blue tooth, helps to be quiet inside.
Also, I think the XC60 looks the most contemporary in design. the Q5 is a little bland for me, I’m emotion less towards it. The X3 looks good in certain trims, looks tough and... butch.
You would buy a Dodge. Most of us go for Reliability + resale value, would shop Lexus. So the Lexus, the Toyota, the Acura, the Honda, even the Infiniti would be the wise choices. If you take away the reliability factor then the Germans are so much more advanced, have more features, better tech, better performance, better handling, nicer interiors etc.
The NX is so lackluster, especially coming from Lexus and owning a 2013 Lexus RX 350 (inb4 "they're different vehicles!"). I'd consider this, but it's slow as fuckin' Shit!!! Lexus needs to release a turbo V6 that actually offers some performance, otherwise the Germans and Volvo will continue to eat their lunch.
But that's the thing, the Germans are NOT selling as well as the NX. Clearly, Lexus is doing something right with a slower, but cheaper and more reliable crossover.
Lexus outsells their german rivals. Most people dont give a rat’s ass about 0-60 times or handling. Even people who shop for luxury vehicles. What boggles my mind is how bad Lexus infotainment is and people are still buying them...
The NX 300 (with the turbo-4-cylinder), is decently peppy. I wouldn't call it quick, but it never felt slow or underpowered when I drove it. It's over a second faster 0-60 than the hybrid.
I've been in both vehicles, and while neither knocked my socks off, I think the NX is worth the extra money relative to the RAV4. For one thing it's much quieter, and it just feels fancier inside. I know that's kinda vague, but maybe the plastics being better as well as more shiny things make the NX feel a class above.
I am NX 300h owner for the past 7 months and it's been my biggest disappointment, can't stop thinking about buying something like bmw x4. There is no way NX can be considered as "luxury" car, maybe against chinese car makers it can... my verdict 3 out of 10

I have the NX F Sport since Feb 2016. Have 29K miles on it, no complains at all. Lexus / Toyota are reliable vehicles.

Can't wait for the RDX to come out. I want to see you do a review
james 699 yea FINALLYYY!! moving in the right direction. Panaramic roof standard 🙌🙌
Yup I rather get the new Rdx aspec over this nx
The new RDX is going to be the class leader and if you want the most fun for the money it's the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Nexus Hexus also Acura has one of the best AWD, I think it's going to be good
Driving an Acura sedan now; yah the fuel economy and reliability on the NX is really appealing but no Android Auto is currently a deal breaker.
Thanks for wel balanced non biased reviews ... which is very rare among car reviewers ...
We bought the NX300h e-four executive line, 2020 model with CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

You have the best reviews on youtube, thanks. As for the look's of this car.. its growing on me. I want to see what the UX will offer.
As for what I would pick; if I had the money, X3 M40i; realistically probably an RDX
Funny how so many people are bashing lexus products for being outdated but they just keep topping the sales chart for luxury cars.

RDX if value and performance are key factors, BMW X3 if you just want the best, very simple
Been in the Volvo hybrid the other day...best interior by far
New Acura RDX is coming out this summer, and I think will be WAY FASTER than this Lexus...
HappyTempHeatingandCooling dude, anything is faster than this Lexus...
I love how this Lexus looks in F sport trim.

Alex top notch profy! Best in business!
NX is still a desireable vehicle. Infinity QX50 looks interesting but only a face it's mother would love. Either one would get my $$$
Alex, whenever comparing fuel economy I would like to see reference to regular vs. premium gas, please. As to Lexus NX design I would give them B for outside and B- for console.
The RDX has the best interior of all the CUVs you mentioned. Never thought anyone could beat the interior in the GLC.
Wish it had apple car play. Nice review.
Thanks for the review as always
You seem to be saying the Volvo XC60 better but more expensive. 2 questions. How’s the Volvo’s reliability and how does the NX stack up against the Volvo XC40?

So the touchpad in the new 2019 Acura RDX is that bad? They push it as being class leading.
please do glc review non amg
Does this thing do anything particularly well?
That *_UX_* it's a _corolla hatch_ on stereoids wich isn't a bad thing...

What are things that is keeping the GLC away from your top recommendations list that is the Q5, X3 and theXC60
can you test a F sport ??
I looked at it with my wife. The back seat and rear cargo area are too small. For the price it seemed too expensive for what it is

Its a great car, very confortable, not all noisy, i drive that car as a cab, 10-12 hours a day, just fantastic, go for a testdrive, trust me
Good news, everyone! Lexus NX is a semi-luxury vehicle now.
No apple car play/android auto. Slow and underpowered.... Wow, it has a small mirror in between the front seats! Keeper!!
Also, I think the XC60 looks the most contemporary in design. the Q5 is a little bland for me, I’m emotion less towards it. The X3 looks good in certain trims, looks tough and... butch.
No need for a panoramic moonroof ever.
How is this same size as x3? It looks more comparable to a cuv
It's pretty much the smallest in the segment. But, that doesn't mean it is too small for the segment. On the inside it is pretty roomy for what it is.
Your size comparison chart seems outdated, is not X3 the longest of all at 186" length?
NX: 182", Q5: 184, XC60, QX50, Stelvio:185,
Nike day time running lights, get it?
Alex where are your land Rover reviews??
i don't like i take the stelvio is much better on handling performance and everything else
QX50!
For the price, I would rather buy Honda CRV touring which has all the luxury and bigger back sit.
Why is this thing so slow? 2.0t engines on other brands' offerings are getting times in the high 5's to 6's.
The NX is just an old Toyota RAV underneath.
XC40 is new. Not redesigned. You ment XC60.
i would go with the audi in this group, i also hate it when they put tablets on top of the dash like that
Do you review Acura's
i think the Toyota Harrier looks better than its Lexus twin!
