I owned a 2012 Tacoma TRD Off Road. My primary issue with it was I am 6'3 and it was the most uncomfortable siting position ever. When I looked straight ahead I was looking through the very top of the windshield. I bought Ranger and the powertrain is just so much more responsive...night and day difference especially at altitude. Not bad mouthing Tacoma, but for me it wasn't a hard decision to leave Tacoma.
That's the Ranger FX4 Max out here in Asia/Australia. Took it off roading a while back, and it is a highly-capable offroader. It may even present a better value than the Ranger Raptor.
Just bought a 21 Tremor in black. Beautiful truck. Paid 41 flat new. I don't know if I'd say it's 'better' than a trd pro but the drive quality is WAAY better in that the turbo charged engine doesn't lag like the Tacoma. you really do zip around town in this. the other thing I prefer over the tacoma is the leg room and seat position. The trd pro has more premium features but for a truck, yeah this thing is awesome. no regrets.
Nice looking Ranger. Yes, definitely needs more Tremor badges. I still prefer the 'Blue Oval' to the blackout badging, though. Overall, a good mid-sized truck. Thanks for all the work you do for the channel, Lori!
o have a lariat and love it. this looks like my truck with different paint and a skid plate. oh and switches. I put better exhaust and cold air intake 3" front lift oh mud flaps and side steps. I get loads of compliments and 27mph hwy

I just bought a new FX4 and absolutely love it. I think the biggest criticism I have is the dash is outdated but it is stuffed with new electronics. I’m that odd guy who is a Ford guy but love GM pickups. I have a full size GMC for towing and stuff. I traded an Edge for the Ranger. The Ranger does everything the Edge did for me while giving me more use. The power is amazing and the 10 speed keeps it perfectly in the power band. Highly recommend a Ranger.
@@brad4527 I wouldn’t call it floaty but definitely not firm. I’ll probably never do this but it seems like the suspension would be well suited for things like a Mojave Jeep would do.

@@brad4527 I’ve put about 4k miles on mine so far. Around town I’m getting 19ish, interstate I can easily get 24, but one time I tried just feathering it on a country road at 55 max and got about 27. That’s not the norm though. Mine is a crew cab so it might weigh just a bit more than a super cab. I find it really fun to drive with all the low end torque. Just my thoughts.

I think the (less expensive) Ford Maverick is going to steal some of the Ranger's thunder, but if I’m not mistaken I think the Ranger is due for a 2022 update. It needs it because this truck was only “new” the US market when it returned a couple years ago.
That is one sexy looking ranger and I'm sure the off-road capability will be right up there I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that in my Las Vegas dealerships
I'm glad i got my 2020 ranger xlt sport supercab for 32k. Decent 32" tires, eibach suspension and tune cost me another 1k. Total. I DO want the rear leafs from the tremor though

I think so, that's why I bought a Tremor instead of a Tacoma. My fully loaded Lariat Tremor was cheaper, gets better mileage, has more power, and was actually available.
I 100% agree on this with you just wish rear window was automatic like the honda ridgeline and wish the set up for the buttons under the screen was done different like the gmc canyon it looks better and cleaner
The things you complained about I 100% agree… I wonder if FORD even listens to what their customers want. I don’t think they do at all. They need to go out and ask every day people who like FORD products what they need to improve on and what they (we) would like to see. And I’m not talking about these focus groups they get cause they can’t be listening to them, or them are not getting anyone that wants a modern updated quality nice product.
Just a few things to consider when comparing vs. a Tacoma: Yes the reliability of the Tacoma is legendary, but the resale values on the Ranger may be closer than you realize. So why would you buy the Ranger over the Taco? 1) It has a superior/much more comfortable driving position. 2) The Ecoboost in stock form already smokes the Taco's V6, but when adding in Ford Racing's own Performance Tuner, which carries a warranty to match the original factory warranty when installed by a certified tech, you can instantly boost output of this mill to 315 hp and 370 ft-lb tq on 93 octane (little less on 91) without worry. 3) The payload capacity is ~300-500 lbs more capable, depending on the Tremor/no Tremor option, which if you are planning to use your truck either for hauling or building an overlanding rig, is pretty significant.
So I didn't read through all the comments and I'm not positive, but that switch on the side of the shifter isn't for manual shifting. At least that's my take. I think it's a mode for overriding the overdrive. For example if it's a 10 speed and you're towing a boat you set the transmission to shift no higher than 7th gear. That's what I use my wife's Cherokee for anyway and it's the same type of design.
The tremor package seems like it's almost totally a suspension upgrade. Also includes a few design and appearance zu zu's, but without a more capable engine option, it's really just a better off-road suspension and stance. Just my opinion, but I think you'd be better off getting the FX4 package, and then adding an after-market suspension kit (including better tires and wheels). Could do this for half of the $4K+ cost of the Tremor package. I wish Carli made a kit tuned for the Ranger.
That's the thing, most people shopping this aren't just looking for price but the size of it, and Ford would prefer you buy the F150, it's definitely bigger gateway to enter than the Ranger, this is for people considering buying a TRD pro or Pro4 off road etc.
Joe, can you reach out to these manufacturers and Zonk (tm) their factories and get them ramped up? There's literally no inventory! Then, go to Asia and Zonk (c) the chip manufacturers.... I think they'd listen to you!
Here in the Philippines, it's called FX4 Max. It costs Php 1,689,000.00 (12% VAT and other taxes included, but not the safety bond). Php 1,700,000 = USD 35,494.50 The Raptor is at Php 1,998,000.00. Less payload due to the the choice of coils over leaf springs at the rear. Personally, this is a better choice.
Things we miss out on: - B&O sound system - The keypad - Heated seats (it's a tropical country) - Leather on the dash. Ours is plastic. - Gasoline engine option - Rear sliding window - Door lock and unlock button for the rear - Ford TowPackage - Rearview camera
Love this Ranger Trimmer but if there was no such thing as mistakes in the Ford line up, if Ford has gotten a masters degree in making perfection always how cars, trucks, and SUVs look? Love the cars you reviews Zonkman but wish perfection was the name of the game and I think Ford should never miss any opportunities or make mistakes at all.

One of the nicest things about the Bronco is not having to look at the ghastly big blue oval badges. When is ford going to tone it down. Understated is better. The Ranger Raptor in Oz is much nicer, such a shame they don't bring it over here.
Anywhere south of Illinois, between the east coast and west coast, Ranger 4x4 XLTs are consistently listed between $39-44K, up from $31-33k just 4 months ago. I'm ready to buy but refuse to pay the huge mark-ups dealers and manufacturers are putting on their trucks. In Oklahoma, where I live, F150 4x4 XL models with the STX package (base model with sport package) are priced between $45-54K. Ridiculous price gouging.

The 2.3 turbo is VERY capable offroad. Tons of reviews and testing has shown this
For $47k, I'd rather get an F-150 to be honest. This truck may be smaller but you'd expect the price to be cheaper as well.

Anywhere south of Illinois, between the east coast and west coast, Ranger 4x4 XLTs are consistently listed between $39-44K, up from $31-33k just 4 months ago. I'm ready to buy but refuse to pay the huge mark-ups dealers and manufacturers are putting on their trucks. In Oklahoma, where I live, F150 4x4 XL models with the STX package (base model with sport package) are priced between $45-54K. Ridiculous price gouging.
