You can tell a lie and it could have no effect. This is less common, of course, but for someone living the same kind of existence that Mizkif is he might be able to tell a lie and actually believe it, so his body wouldn't trigger a response. All of this is to say that basically the machine isn't guaranteed to be accurate, so there is no way to guarantee that someone is telling the truth or a lying. You can make assumptions, but at the end of the day people can get away with murder.
