    Ted is too pragmatic, too logical and too humble. I prefer nutrition experts who have a magic bullet they are trying to sell me. Gimmicks, biohacks, those are the things we need more of. Kidding of course, Ted is the man. Hell of a nice guy and a great doctor.

    Ted Naiman is the absolute man - his theories just make so much sense - speaking as a type one diabetic who tests my blood all the time and I manage to keep myself at 16.5% body fat, adopting what I've learnt from him has benefitted me massively.
    If only goddam Amazon could figure out how to send his book to New Zealand... I mean we can put a man on the moon but they're unable to send a 5lb hardcover on 12 hour flight...?

      Fellow kiwi here. I am so happy that you are finding success with Ted's approach. Can you give me an idea of what you eat in a day? I have type 1 and I struggle to keep weight low because I'm so hungry. Also, egg whites and other lean protein is so expensive right now! Thanks so much

    • @annabarclay4673
      @annabarclay4673 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Rachel! I'm so glad you asked - type one diabetics just need to have a blanket rule where they do not eat sugars and starches (except in a medical emergency) because they are actually so unnecessary and make our lives incredibly stressful with the inevitable highs and lows. Take them out of your core diet and reduce your insulin to a minimum and I promise the hunger will fall away and your blood sugar levels will find equilibrium so much easier, and most importantly you'll be so satisfied. SO you need to focus your diet around protein which is the fuel your body actually needs - I eat loads of chicken, steak, pork, bacon, lamb, fish (I don't mind whether they're lean or fatty cuts) and honestly with olive oil and seasonings etc, you'll be so satisfied and won't even miss potatoes or rice or fruit or whatever. I'll have cheese occasionally if there's a cheeseboard out at the table or if I'm drinking with friends I'll pick the topping off a pizza... and I also eat sugar-free chocolate [almost everyday] and sugar-free jelly and some other treats that I mostly buy on a great NZ website (lowcarbhaven.co.nz). Once you make the move away away from carbs 100% you will not look back - freeing yourself of that anxiety that goes along with each insulin injection is so worth it. Obviously you'll need to test your blood sugar heaps and adjust your insulin requirements - please be super aware all the time and be prepared with glucose tablets in your pocket case you need them. I reckon your life will be so much easier and you'll love it.

    • @rachelbrondel5858
      @rachelbrondel5858 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annabarclay4673 this sounds really promising because I am tired of trying to eat less but not feeling satisfied. I have to learn how to dose for lots of protein because my blood sugar does rise after a large meat meal, or a whey shake. Do you keep an eye on calories? Have you ever struggled with hunger or your weight? Have you tried Gerry's high protein bread?

    • @rachelbrondel5858
      @rachelbrondel5858 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annabarclay4673 can you give me breakfast ideas? Atm I eat cottage cheese and eggs on protein bread. I probably eat too much dairy, I love cottage cheese and low fat Chobani yogurt. I also have milk in my tea and coffees

    • @annabarclay4673
      @annabarclay4673 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rachelbrondel5858 definitely you need to swap milk in your coffee for full fat cream - just a dash has the same neutralizing effect but without all the lactose that milk has . I love a creamy coffee occasionally when I need some sustenance in the morning but mostly I have several cups of black coffee - I feel like it tides me over for a few hours so that I don’t need to eat - I’ve found fasting (or just “getting hungry” as a more accurate description) in the morning makes my blood sugar far easier to manipulate for the rest of the day; I find it’s way easier to “fast” if you’re looking forward to something , so I’ll plan to have bacon and poached eggs at 11am, or some sugar free protein cookies (quest brand, lowcarbhaven) if I’m going to the gym , or I’ll skip breakfast completely and wait to have something decent for lunch like a sirloin steak at 12.30/1pm. I do think that cottage cheese and unsweetened Greek yoghurts are awesome high protein foods but I just found that they caused too much of a blood sugar spike - not sure whether it was to do with the minimal carbs in dairy or the inflammatory nature of dairy..? Anyway I choose to avoid them but if you find you can for them in with your insulin plan then there’s no reason you shouldn’t.
      I think as type ones we need to forget about typical breakfast foods and just adopt the mentality that anything goes, anytime. Cereal and toast is never going to work even if it’s supposedly low carb or gluten free - just don’t even consider it. So lunch or dinner food for breakfast is totally acceptable! I take pre-cooked seasoned chicken to work to have at my desk , or sometimes I embarrassingly eat the most part of a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket…. but don’t feel like to need to massively change, it sounds like your head’s in the right place and you’re already on the right track, just just start with small tweaks and progress as you feel you can , you’ll see it’s way easier than it seemed

    Obesity is NOT always overating. For years I was told that I was overweight because I did not eat enough calories. I usually eat less than 1000 calories a day because I would be full.
    My weight was caused by WHAT I ate not how much.
    I was following a "healthy" low fat diet. When I turned the pyramid upside down and went keto, the weight came off even though I did not change the calories.
    Now that I eat almost carnivore, I am able to increase the calories but my weight is pretty stable. I am also doing resistance training and hope to start converting the last of my fat stores into muscle.

    I have a terminal lung disease called aveolar hemorrhaging and eating ONLY protein has saved my life over the past two years. My daughter talked me into trying it (she begged and begged me), and even my doctor was concerned. I have no more lung "flare-ups" and I am not concerned anymore of this disease taking me out. Oh, and even my doctor has changed his mind about my diet. At my last appointment he told me to "just continue with whatever you are doing". All my labs were normal.........I am by no means "starving to death". I think everyone needs to find which way of eating works best for them.........Also, I always eat the "fattiest" piece of meat I can get. I learned my body needed the fat.

    There are studies 'what a human should eat' that are 20-70 years in the making here in Europe. Non of the study emphasise protein as such. All studies have a few things in common: eat little, eat multiple sources of whole foods and that's about it.
    I have now watched this video twice and one thing comes again and again - what you SHOULD eat. As a human being you don't have to eat almost nothing and you're fine. I eat vegetables, roots, nuudles, sour milk, eggs - I eat all of them but only a little.
    The first month I stayed in the US, I gained almost 10kg - the food was good but there was too much of it.

    The obesity is cause by hunger. The majority of Americans are undereating their proteins, so they are nutritional deficient which makes them crave cabs as a fast quick form of energy. This started when doctors told us fat, meat, cholesterol and salt was harmful. If ofr a long period of time you undereat proteins we get used to the low amount of proteins and the same way people can overeat carbs we can we can undereat proteins.

    Here’s the thing I still can’t understand with regards to protein consumption…
    Let’s say that I have an 8 hour eating window. I eat two meals at around 40g-50g protein per meal.
    According to my calculations based on this and other podcasts I have listened to, I should be consuming 200g of protein/day.
    Where is the additional 100g of protein in my day? I’m eating two meals of which 40g-50g is protein. This brings me to satiety. I can easily go 6-7 hours after my first meal without feeling hungry. So I’m only consuming 80g-100g of protein that day.
    If I did have a high protein snack at 4 hours, let’s say another 40g-50g of protein, that still leaves me a deficit of 50g-80g of protein for the day. (And for me, adding a snack like that means I’m less hungry at dinner.)
    How can I get in more protein while still being able to add in 100g of carb and 100g fat? (Well, the fat part is easier than the carb part.)
    So really I’m asking how to also get 100g of carbs from QUALITY/HEALTHY sources when most leafy greens and veggies are lower carb?
    How does one consume this much food, in the ‘right’ ratios, in 8 hours, and not constantly feel full and heavy?
    Please note, this is NOT me criticizing what’s being discussed in the video. This is a legitimate, genuine question about how all this advice comes together.

      If you’re unable to eat higher protein in one sitting then you’re going to have to widen your eating window and therefore add another meal and possibly a snack. No point imposing an arbitrary 8 Hour feeding time if your goal is to eat more 🤷🏽‍♂️ the limiting factor there is the time restriction.
      Also just reduce your carbs and or fats a bit and exercise a more, over time you’ll be hungry enough to consume that additional meal and add more protein by default.

      @dr.samierasadoonalhassani2669 you are correct 1 gram protein = 4 calories; however, rather than starting to calculate how much is the protein calories from the total calories (from the yogurt example - 20 gram protein X 4 calories/200 total calories = 0.4 aka 40%) he suggest an easier way where you multiply the grams of protein by 10 (20X10) if it’s equal the total number of calories it means your protein is at 40% if the number is higher than the total calories it means your protein is more than 40% of total calories and if it less it means your overall protein % is lower than 40.
      Great method, I’m going to adopt it!

      Neither be afraid of fat nor seek it out. Focus on getting quality protein and enough to eat and the carbs and fat will follow. Almost no one is at risk of starving from too much protein in their diet unless they're just eating whey powder. Whole foods rich in protein will get you all the fat you need without it being too much. The real risk is when you have fat and carbs and no protein. Mashed potatoes that are half butter isn't much of a meal alone and will give you tons of calories with no satiety, but as a side dish with a lean chicken breast it is fine.
      You need fat in your diet, so cook with a moderate amount of saturated fats like ghee, coconut oil, tallow, etc. and maybe drizzle your salad with a moderate amount of an olive oil based vinaigrette, but don't lather everything in butter or cut out all fat.

I've found that following Dr Naiman's approach (high protein/ lowish fat + carbs) is more sustainable and produces better results. The key is recognizing that protein isn't an energy source and by prioritizing it we will automatically eat less of everything else. I hope that helps!

    He keeps hammering it's food and total calories that makes people obese. But obviously genetics do also play a huge role in all of this. Some people get fat by just looking at food. Others can eat whatever they want and stay lean. Obese children often have parents that are also obese. Then the physical activity component gets lower while the weight gets higher. Once you're into this downward spiral of obesity and disease, hard to get it to stop and reverse it.

    The human body is not efficient at absorbing protein from all foods. Humans are most efficient at absorbing protein from eggs, next fish then lean meats. Humans are least efficient at absorbing protein from plant food, regardless of the protein saturation in the plant food.
