7 years ago, i used to buy 3 $5 crosswords every day. Never thought id win. Just enjoyed playing them. Never won more than $50, until i won $100k one night. I stopped playing after that. I dont think it was an addiction, or that i ever had a chance to win big. They were just a fun way to pass time.
how long did you drop $15 a day until you won your 100k?
@pjm3005 took me about 8 months. after winnings, I would usually only spend $5-$10 every couple days. I played the winnings from the previous day maybe 40% of the time. Didn't actually get $100k after tax. More like $73k.

@princess_maya_ same gas station every night before work. Always bought 3 tickets in order. Seemed like that's the best return I got. The odds according to the back of the ticket were 1 in 3. And Usually I'd win $5-$15 nightly. Basically paid enough for me to break even or lose maybe $10/week.

I have bought lottery tickets for gifts & a few for the jokes of it but I feel bad for the poor people who actually play lottery in the hopes of not being poor. It is sad & I am poor but I am monetarily poor by choice but I am in rich in life.

Just for next time.... 1. You can't win less the value of the card. So I'm right at where Brit says she won $10 on a $20 card, which means she missed at least another $10 win on the card.... 2. If you really want to go for speed or just check if the amount you won is right, scratch the entire card and the letters around the sides will spell the amount you won in so only a few abbreviated letters. 3 Brit is amazing, and I love how she does little chicken scratching and you go whole hog with the scratcher doing chunky lines like you were Johnny Depp in Blow.. 4. It is like a casino, some times you hit and others you miss, but in the end the house always wins... Otherwise they wouldn't exist.... Oh yeah and 5. I forgot to mention that when you hit numbers that are repeatedly 1 number off of a winner, then it is a loser %99 of the time. But again you can always just scratch the sides to see the letters and know if and what you won without even scratching the game section... P.s. $829 is not possible, she already missed at least $10 you didn't count and you didn't buy $1 $2 cards so $829 is most likely at minimum $840, still a loss but I would def have them all scanned... Do the cashier a favor and scratch the barcode at the bottom of all the card, they need the hidden barcode to scan and it takes time at the register holding thing up while they scratch each barcode... Just saying

The best ive ever done was the last dollar i had to my name until payday. I figured screw it, i cant even buy a soda. Bought a 1 dollar ticket and won 100. Fill my gas tank up that minute
I LOVE playing scratch off tickets because of how exciting it is to see if you are going to win big, plus it had been a family tradition to always get scratch off tickets in our stockings at Christmas so I grew up with it. :) Definitely have to be careful with how much you spend though! We play but just for fun and never over your budget. The most I have ever won on 1 ticket is $50 but I haven't played more than a $20 ticket so maybe that is why. I had a really fun time watching you guys play though! :)

My brother spent every spare $ he would rob peter to pay Paul just to play his entire adult life . He had books of chicken scratches trying to figure out a rhythm to die so broke he was bumming clothes at the nursing home he was at. So sad
Over lottery tickets? Wow, that's about as extreme as it gets for scratchers. It's not like there was any kind of physical dependency to them. It was just straight up gambling addiction or were there substances involved? I'm not judging but it sounds like there could have been substances involved if it got that bad.
I've met quite a few gambling addicts. About half of them didn't drink or do drugs but the other half were hiding drinking or drug problems behind their gambling addiction.
It's really sad to see a gambling addict because they can't stop until they've lost it all. Winning just delays the inevitable. There was a guy who won a million dollars on one ticket and he would go around handing out $10 and higher tickets to while continuing to spend hundred of dollars per week on them. He didn't play them much at all before he hit the mill. That win turned him into an all out addict looking for the next big win. He'd always say no matter how much he spends or gives away, he's still in the profit. The lotto even sponsored him and gave him all kinds of shirts, hats, etc, to give away with the tickets that he would buy for other people. Then, he went bankrupt just 2 years later. Lost everything. Lost his very profitable business that he owned and every single car along with his home. He had a huge tax bill he couldn't pay because he'd spend every penny of his cash on tickets. The business would bring profit in. He'd go on a buying spree still giving tickets away hiding how badly in debt he was in. He started losing employees cuz he was missing payroll and the business stopped being profitable. He hid it all the way til the end and even gave away some of his very last tickets he bought. It was sad.
If you look up how many people have gone bankrupt after winning over a million dollars in the lottery, it's actually pretty staggering. It's just as mind-blowing as the amount of millionaire athletes who spent themselves into debt and broke. Allen Iverson is a really sad story. He would take a posse of at least 40 people everywhere he went always paying for it. Thankfully, his shoe sponsor had put a trust in part of his deal that paid him out a couple million when he hits a certain age but he was dead broke for a while. I wouldn't doubt that he started taking loans out against that trust money too. They were probably really high interest loans too, but they were guaranteed to get paid back as soon as his trust age came or comes. I'm not sure when he's supposed to get the trust. Hopefully he plays it smarter with the rest of his money from his trust.

Hey Roman I don't know if you'll see this but maybe someone else can relate or going through something similar in my life right now I'm going to school for automotive technology and learning how to work on cars and I was working as a car detailer and it wasn't a good place I was making no money a couple weeks back and I found your videos while I was out of work and you kept saying life is gonna be hard and things aren't gonna go in your favor all the time but if you keep working and grinding you'll get where you wanna be and while I was back home with some of my family I got a call to work as a technician at a tire and auto service shop which has been a dream for me to work on cars for a living and you helped lift me up in a hard time and I wanna say thank you for making these videos they really help people and I keep making steps towards my dream of working on nascar race cars and you helped me make another step❤️

As a tip- scratch the bottoms where the barcode is at, and look for random letters around, they will spell a word, like FTN = 15, TWY = 20 THD = 200, etc etc etc. If you see a Z, Y, X, D, Q, J, a few others, it’s automatically a loss.

I've scratched thousands of tickets and my highest win has been $600. Definitely not worth it for most people but I make ad revenue on the videos so I get paid to play. Most people play for the hope of hitting big. I do it because it's fun, the adrenaline rush is awesome, the entertainment and I technically never lose because of the ad revenue.

My MIL has a wallet dedicated to scratch-offs, so the only money she spends on them is the money she wins on them. That way she never ends up in debt, and every once in a while she wins a good amount. She won $1000 once. But it's fun for her.

If they are being bought daily or more for the hope of winning it big then it is an addiction for sure. The addiction of hope and life changing money. Yet if only the money used to buy the cards everyday of their life was invested in something, even stocks, the money gained would be way higher over time.
I hope you two win big! I remember 30 years ago I was working at a party store and my coworker bought about 7 scratch offs of the same kind and didn’t win a thing. I asked her if she was going to buy anymore and she said no, so I bought the next one and won $160. She was not happy. lol
