- 8-year-old Londin Thomas, her mom, and her dad went to the Tops on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo Saturday to gather supplies for a cookout and a birthday surprise.

You can't tell whether someone is traumatized just by looking at them,trauma can show up a decade after the traumatic incident.

It is the importance of having Love, Respect and Good Family Values that keep this little girl grounded.
Also the safety she felt of her mother and father both being there…this is what I had growing up, and we must talk more about our families which ARE intact according to the “nuclear, heteronormative” model. I saw every day with my friends in public school (I attended private school until 5th grade) where I was first exposed to so many kids from different origins…upper middle class, lower middle class, and then just plain out impoverished. I saw plenty of poor Black kids who still had both parents….so today, I still grit my teeth when non-Black folks take it upon themselves to spotlight the lack of fathers in Black households, when honestly, white families are going through the same thing. You don’t see a huge topical floodlight being shown on broken white families, do you?
Anyways, I am so glad that this family made it out alive. We will all be watching to see how this horrific domestic terrorist is handled in the days and probably months to come. With a sigh, I feel as if I already know. 😐

@@tid8583 don't worry. She still loves you more -there's nothing stronger than a bond between mother and child. In fact, the last person someone thinks about just before they die is their mother. I work in an old people's home and 'mom' is often the last words from a person, woman or man.
Our kids expressing how safe they feel with their fathers is an awesome message to broadcast, esp given how so many go above and beyond to destroy the importance of a father’s protective role. Thank God they are among the survivors.

So happy this family remained physically intact. Though they will certainly experience PTSD. I remember years ago my mother was in BoA when it was robbed. Everyone was made to lie face down. When she got home she came in the house telling us the bank had been robbed and then spontaneously burst into tears. No shots were fired, she was one of many customers and it was still traumatizing. I cant imagine what the family members of the dead and the injured, those in the store during the massacre and the community as a whole is going through. I'm keeping them in my prayers.

Honestly, I know America is like "the land of the free" but I honestly think people are taking that too litterally. Its scary how a girl so young had to deal with this.

It's great to hear about how this little girl's life was saved because of the quick smart thinking of her parents! It is horrible and tragic that they had to worry about protecting their daughter in the first place. How many times will it be until too much is too much and something is done about this plague of mass shootings affecting our country? We all know when to much will be too much, it will be too much when something like this happens in a rich neighborhood in the suburbs. Say I'm lying. Everybody knows it's sad but true.

I really love how this post makes mention of the black family. It is so important for the black man to protect the black woman and the child. This is so important, even living in this type of society that may not be for us. I’m so happy that this gentleman stood up and protected his family and did what was right.
Every time I hear about a shooting, my heart begins to break into pieces of sorrow and despair. After the tears start streaming down my face, my next instinc is to cry out to Father God to comfort those hurting souls who have been victimized by this horrific act.

She is not only brave but extremely brave for her age. She is also smart and was taught well. I can tell you she is probably one of the only 8 year olds to know what to do in situation. If I were here I’d probably not know what to do. I hope this kid has a bright future and for those whose lives were lost, I hope that they are in a better place 😇
I am much older now and I understand her love for her daddy. She not talking about the street dad cussing, drinking and smoking. She’s talking about that protective loving dad. Her smile is the result of her father’s inner strength and his commitment of love for her. Her daddy placed that smile on her face. Every daddy should make sure that their child has that smile. I wasn’t there. But I saw the video and it really broke my heart. I didn’t sleep and cried to the thought of it that same night.
It’s just heartbreaking to see how easy it was for this monster to take innocent lives… my hopes and prayers to this wonderful girl and the victims of this massacre and the school shooting. 🥺💕 kids should NEVER have to experience such things.
