  • The 'Federation of Free Farmers' expressed dismay and anger over Malacanang's flip-flopping in its stance on rice importation. The federation's president Leonardo Montemayor says at the heart of the issue are glaring defects of the rice tariffication law. He adds even other safety measures like imposing and adjusting tariffs to control import volumes and price volatility are not properly implemented.

Tariffication law ayos sa rice customer, pero Yung farmers pinapatay nyo naman. You pass the problem to the farmers. Mura bigas, mura palay, pero mata-as Yung gastos sa farming. Bagsak Yung farmers. Thanks

At present, the effect of the rice liberalization is now being felt by almost all business sectors, matumal lahat ng kalakalan especially sa rural areas. It affects not only agriculture sector but even other businesses.

No to stop import but yes to increase the tarif to be used for improvments of our farmers and control the release of permit to import in order to meet the competetive prices for our local farmers. hirap sa mga naka upo ngayon walang galing sa magsasaka kaya hindi naiintindihan ang tunay na problema at di rin alam ang tamang solusyon.

Why give the power to someone to stop a politically infavorable policy but a economically favorable policy? That was what happened for decades. Past president kept a abnormal rice policy because it was politically convenient.
What they are doing now is a liberal rice policy to fix the decades old rice policy for long term benefits. If there was a blame to put on its the past administrations that kept the rice industry for 23 years. WTO already said that there will no more extensions since we have 23 years to fix it.
How much more can local consumer pay high rice prices? 50% more? 100% more? 300% more? Just to adopt long term policies to save both the farmers and consumers from abnormal policies.
