Iranian women have way better situation and life now in the Islamic republic than what they had before revolution. Before revolution Iranian women were object of sexual harassment all over the country and inside of government ruling,now in Islamic republic women are protected from obvious abuse . Hijab is what brought a shine to the society hijab in Iran has given the true meaning of dignity to the mass population. Iranian women are higher in education in compare to all the sounrounding countries . At any level of education and intellectual growth, Iranian women have significant increases. So, Iranian women doing so much better than even most western countries that are so abusive of women .
"ان النبي غلبه الوجع" Considering the fact that the prophet Peace be upon him was on his death bed, the hadith you mentioned could be interpreted literally.
Don't compromise with the Islamic perspective on these issue. When Prophet Alayha wa salatusalam and Imams declared woman are incompetent in leadership they are otherwise it will bring disorder among the ummah. Some prohibitions aren't their to diminish or degrade the respect of women rather they are there to keep the morals of Islam in society stable. Popular Hadiths are part of Iman and we can't ignore to fit into Western sociological narratives.

There are various interpretations of this hadeeth, and ibn hajr also said that it was said about a particular nation
