    • @Aelbereth
      @Aelbereth 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      +hazeddon it's hard to convince a good free agent to play for the Wolves, insn't it?
      Would you decide to play for the Lakers, Bulls or Knicks or to play for Minny instead

    • @hazeddon
      @hazeddon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aelbereth Can't argue with that logic, I mean unless I was good friends with KG or was actually from Minnesota why would I chose Minnie(and it's lovely weather) over LA?
      But there are other ways to build a championship team, look at San Antonio. Prior to signing Lamarcus Aldridge, I think most of their team either came from the draft of Europe.

    Can we just agree than Tim Duncan And KG are both elite in their OWN way?

    • @dakidobf
      @dakidobf 9 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Exactly. They are both first ballot HOF power forwards but they played the game completely different. You can't really compare then fairly.

    • @alpha1379
      @alpha1379 9 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      They both are good. Garnett and Duncan both played power forwards but both had completely different styles to it. Garnett played more of a small forward/power forward style and roamed the floor while Duncan was more of a power forward/center and dominated the interior part of the floor. Both had weaknesses and strengths to their games. Garnett was really athletic and roamed the floor a lot. He could go both perimeter and post. That was his strength. His main "weakness" was not being as effective in the interior part of the floor. He didn't have a dominating post game, he could go post, but it wasn't as dominant. Duncan was the opposite, his "weakness" was not being able to roam the floor that much. The farther away from the basket he was, the easier it is to take advantage of him. He wasn't as fast, but he used his IQ and skills to dominate the inside. Duncan had the dominating post game that you would want in a big man. Garnett was 50% perimeter, while 50% post. Dunan was more like 25% perimeter, but 75% post. Garnett had a better range with his shots, while Duncan was able to bang inside consistently. Both were EQUALLY GOOD with their own way of succeeding as a power forward.
      The real question is, not who's "greater", but who would you want to build a team around?

    Garnett was 10-15 years ahead of his time. If he played now he'd be playing full time center, shooting threes, bringing the ball up and dribbling through his legs, running pick and rolls occasionally, and switching onto guards and wings. Hell, I could imagine a creative coach sicking him on somebody like LeBron or Durant for a game.

    old NBA fans be like "the 80s and 90s were so much tougher"
    1) PPG and FG % were higher
    2) zone defense and trapping were illegal
    3) the 3 PT line was moved in by almost 2 feet at one point
    4) the 30-52 Bulls made the playoffs in the mid 80s
    but since you could handcheck and 2 teams out of 30 played physical defense it must've been harder!!!!!

    • @DyingBreed8
      @DyingBreed8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      you could also be yourself which is 100% against the rules nowadays.

    • @isawrooka4
      @isawrooka4 9 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Even the most zone heavy teams play zone roughly 20% of the time, it really is a non factor... The one fact that you're ignoring is that before the rule changes a player could legally camp his ass in the paint all game and lay wood on anyone who came near. The 80s wasn't a particularly strong era outside of a few teams, but the 90s was and still remains the best decade for basketball.
      And the disparity in FG% is primarily due to less 3pt shooting, the TS% (which takes into account treys and FTs as well as standard goals) of this decade is higher than any other. Disparity in PPG has more to do with the amount of possessions (pace) than the actual defense played.
      Plus, like the other guy mentioned, there is not a stat that will show you how much more physical the game was. This is where "watching the game" comes into play.

    • @sznj94
      @sznj94 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe because the NBA actually had great bigmen who could do some damage in the paint. Also they didn't have a 3 second rule

    • @kevinseveneleven
      @kevinseveneleven 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Scoring and shooting percentages were definitely not higher for the 90s. That's the whole reason they tried moving the 3pt line closer, hoping it'd make that shot easier and boost scoring.
      It took until like a decade later to realize (partly due to the 7 Seconds Or Less era Suns) that they needed to change rules to be more guard friendly. That's why you look at the NBA scoring leaders right now and see a bunch of guys 6'6" and under. You go back 30 or even 20 years and there's no way you see a couple of point guards up that high in scoring average

    Kg and Timmy last of a dying breed, basketball today is great but it's just something about the first decade of 2000 that sticks with me man..

  • @balbonits

    "Prime" KG was a dream for people who played fantasy basketball, constant 20-10 guy who can also pass, defend, had a better mid-range shot than Josh Smith, and can still take it to the hole. Also, that post fade away? Before Dirk's, there was KG's (I'm sure there were others, but just give me this moment. He's my guy, man!).

    what players are criticised for:
    kobe : ballhog and volume shooter
    lebron: intangables ( not as of late doe)
    melo kd: defense
    dwight and deandre : freethrows
    griffin: post moves
    shaq: no jumper, freethrows
    brook lopez and Al jeff : rebounding
    KG in his prime was good/ great in every single thing, playmaking rebounding king, scoring, defense, seting picks, hustling, leadership, comunication, heart, shooting, thras talking
    Got nothing but respect for KG!!
    leading the league in reboun % last 2 years and hes allmost 40
    Most complete big man ever

      Duncan? One of the best if not better than Kevin Garnett in his prime. Definitely the most complete Power Forward in the game for sure, he had Rebounds, Free Throws, a jump shot, can still hustle, can still set picks and everything.
      Him and KG are definitely two of the greatest.

    • @lilprincekilla
      @lilprincekilla 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Christopher Jhagroo as I always stated, look at the games, not the stats. The stats only tell half the story. Shareef Abdur Rahim had better stats than Rasheed Wallace. Did that make him better?????? Bill Russell has more rings that Michael Jordan, does that make him better? Y'all need to lay off the stats. Stats are for people that are too lazy to look at what happened officially in their games. I witnessed them both play in their primes. And if you look at the stats, you'll see that Garnette dominates duncan in everything except for blocks and points.

    • @cooljhags7356
      @cooljhags7356 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LilPrince Killa Duncan 3 time Finals MVP, Garnett 0 Finals MVP, Duncan 2 time MVP, Garnett 1 time MVP, Duncan 15 time All Star, Garnett 15 time All Star, Duncan 5 Championships, Garnett 1 Championship, Duncan 10 time NBA All first team, Garnett 4 time NBA all fist team, Duncan 8 time Defensive First Team, Garnett 9 time Defensive First Team, Garnett 1 Time Defensive Player of the Year, Duncan 0, Garnett 4 time Rebounds leader, Duncan 0, Duncan Rookie of The Year, Garnett nothing, Duncan has more points per season, rebounds per season, and more blocks per season for his career than Garnett. Garnett has more assists, and steals per season for his career than Duncan.

Nobody knows what nba is let alone actually knew that's garnett, a basketball player, and the 2004 MVP.

    • @luccathebasedgod9824
      @luccathebasedgod9824 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JAY MULA he is the best pf, 12 years with the wolves, he made the playoffs 8 times in that time, leads the franchise in almost every stat, his teammates in that 12 years with the wolves, only 3 made the all star in 12 years, 3, never won a ring in Minnesota because he didnt had one good teammate who could help him, he did every thing for them, thats why he was the mvp in 2003-2004.
      Duncan had Robinson, Manu Ginóbili, Tony Parker, kahwi leonard...

    • @dan320000
      @dan320000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even if David, Manu and Parker were not in their prime in 2003, Duncan was still able to carry them and won the champion. If TD was replaced by KG, Spurs would not win the title.
      I don't think that Manu and Parker in 2003 were better than Spree and Cassell in 2004.... (And dont forget KG had Brandon and Wally in 2001)
      KG 's offense skill could not be reliable in playoff. His teamates could not got wide open chance. That's why his team could not produce high quality play and chemistry.
